09.01.2022 Buying direct from a farmer is one of the best ways we can support a better food system. Here’s 5 top reasons to support local farmers. 1. When you support loc...al you’re valuing the farmer who has grown your food. More money ends up in their pocket compared to through the conventional system. This is really important because our farmers play such an integral role in feeding us. 2. Food has travelled much shorter distances to get to you. This means significantly less emissions through transport and refrigeration. 3. In most instances, the produce will be grown without chemicals and in a way that is regenerating the soil for future generations. This is a win for you and a win for the environment. 4. It’s fresher and tastes SO much better when it’s just been picked. It’s true. 5. You’re supporting a local economy, which is hugely important, especially right now as we are feeling the pinch of financial instability both locally and globally. Want to buy local but don’t know where to start? Post a comment below and I’ll guide you towards some sites where you can search for small scale farms.

07.01.2022 Anti-Poverty Week starts this Sunday 11 October to raise awareness and increase understanding of poverty in Australia. To help support disadvantaged communities..., we provide a broad range of services for people experiencing poverty and hardship through disadvantage. Our efforts to help relieve poverty recognise the individual's strengths and build their resilience and capacity by providing free or low-cost activities including: providing nutritious and cost-effective meals at our community centres and positive ageing centres partnering with agencies such as Foodbank SA and others to support access to food relief linking people with services that provide training, volunteering and leadership opportunities which can lead to employment empowering young people to develop leadership and life skills through our Onkaparinga Youth Enterprise Hub and How to Adult course. Through these popular programs, local young people learn about business, budgeting, taxes, employment, housing, and renting. Through the implementation of our Community Capacity Strategic Plan, we are committed to supporting our communities to be involved in local matters and work together to make life better. You can find out more about Anti-Poverty Week here https://antipovertyweek.org.au #antipovertyweek
