I have had the misfortune of visiting a couple of basements recently on the Gold Coast In one the blockwork was showing signs of complete destruction and rubbing my hand over the surface had aggregate coming away in my hand.... In the other, a colourbond wall & hob had been installed to hide and prevent the water flowing into all areas of the basement carpark. Even the hob had water leaking under it. This building is just over one year old. Water running through a wall will eventually break down the wall. It might take a few years. An example of this degradation is seen in 30+ year old tanks where cracking has occurred and often sealing from the outside fails due to poor strength due to the degradation caused by the water in the tank.
