07.01.2022 Double demerits start midnight tonight. ACT Policing will be out in force this Christmas New Year period as double demerits begins at midnight tonight until 11.59pm Sunday, 3 January 2021. Offences that incur double demerit points include all speeding and seatbelt offences, the use of a mobile phone while driving, and riding a motorbike without a helmet. All other traffic offences incur one extra demerit point during the period.

04.01.2022 *Warning now cancelled* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING Large Hail possible through Canberra in the next 30 minutes.... The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:45 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Boorowa, Jugiong and Burrinjuck. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to southeast. They are forecast to affect Belconnen, Canberra Civic, Hall, Gungahlin and Canberra Airport by 4:15 pm and Queanbeyan, South Canberra, Weston Creek and Woden Valley by 4:45 pm. Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.

04.01.2022 The man was last seen jumping into Lake Burley Griffin at about 1.15am last night sparking a search with the assistance of AFP Maritime, the Toll SouthCare Rescue Helicopter, ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Ambulance Service.
