25.01.2022 A Christmas poem On the day before Christmas with smoke haze all around, think of the families with homes burnt to the ground. Those who lost loved ones, injured and traumatised.... The animals that perished, their habitat on fire. It’s not over yet, as the monster surrounds the forests, the rural communities and stalks the towns. This disaster is not normal as the politicians explain the reasons why they can’t take action to ease the pain. They sold our water, ignored global warming and reduced control burns. Took money from the fire fighters, blame the drought in turn. It’s hard to celebrate this time of year, as I fear the winds and lightning, a southerly change, turning the fire towards my own home. So when you lift your glasses for a Christmas cheer, think of the homeless and the bush animals we’ve lost this year. - Marje Prior

02.01.2022 Great thinking from BigHart. Their Tasmanian model is the way forward for small and remote communities, marginalised and made invisible by regionalism. Especially as the firestorms have created an opportunity to reset the cultural, social and economic agenda for sustaining these communities.
