27.01.2022 Before I went on Ultimate Tag I had to attend a tryout, and before I tried out, I did some training running over obstacles (as usually all my running is done in... a straight, flat line) Predictably, while trying some new moves I suffered the worst ankle sprain of my life. Jamming the bones in the joint, just days before the tryout I could barely walk. With the help of Oomph Osteopathy and a hell of a lot of strapping tape, my ankle held up during the tryout and I made the show. The ankle was a problem throughout though, and still bothers me today, months after the initial injury While I haven’t received official confirmation yet, all signs point to me being in Ultimate Tag Semi Final 3, on 7flix next Monday, March 29th at 7:30pm
23.01.2022 Can’t beat the afternoon slump? Being tired makes crazy changes to your hormones, your brain activity and your cortisol levels. Often leading you to eat more, crave carbohydrates and make poor food choices. Try some of these to try and beat it:... 1 eat a nutritious breakfast - never skip this meal! 2 stay hydrated - dehydration leads to low energy and difficulty focusing. 3 avoid caffeine temptation. 4 get a HEALTHY mid afternoon snack - something with plenty of protein and some complex carbohydrates for a sustained energy release. 5 take a walk. Exercise naturally boosts blood flow to your brain and body which stops the tired feeling. 6 get a vitamin B Boost. Leafy greens, or regular fish consumption could be your answer. See more
22.01.2022 Not sure what to expect at your first Osteopathy Treatment? Many patients who come to us have been referred from other other patients, their GP, allied health practitioner, trainer or even just google! Drew is the sole Osteopath who prides himself on patient care and knowledge of patient satisfaction. The positive results that we achieve for our patients is what keeps people coming back when they need further help or are suffering from a new issue. ... If you are yet to visit Drew, rest assured, he will explain everything that he is doing and why, as well as what he thinks is causing your pain and discomfort. During your initial consultation you will be asked a series of questions about the problem or pain you may be experiencing. We will also ask about your medical history, as well as medications, as this may have an influence (even if you cannot see it), to help us diagnose and best manage your complaint. Drew will then do some testing that may include general and functional movements, or other diagnostic, clinical, orthopaedic and neurological tests to help us determine a diagnosing, dependent on your history and presentation of pain and symptoms. For example, if you come in with shoulder pain, Drew is likely to assess your neck, upper and lower back, and elbow. All whilst explaining what he is finding and what he believes may be causing the pain. Osteopathic treatment itself includes many different hands on techniques, including massage, mobilisation, stretching, manipulation, myofascial release techniques as well as dry needling and exercise rehabilitation and prescription. #osteopath #osteopathictreatment #osteo #osteopathic #osteopathy #osteopathyaustralia #armidale #armidalehealth #armidalehealthcare #armidalealliedhealth #armidaleosteopath #armidalelife

18.01.2022 We have many people ask - ‘so what does an osteopath do anyway?’ The Osteopathic Concept itself identifies that the musculoskeletal system as well as being prone to mechanical disorders, reflects many internal illnesses and may aggravate or accelerate the process of ‘dis-ease’ in other body systems. Osteopath’s believe that because the human body is a unified organism all body systems including the musculoskeletal system, operate in unison and disturbances in one syst...em can alter functions of other systems. Resulting in the body’s musculoskeletal system being central to the patient’s well being this system includes the bones, muscles, tendons, fascia, tissues, fluid body, nerves and spinal column. The body always has a natural tendency toward health osteopathic practice is designed to support, stimulate and initiate the body’s trend toward health. See more
17.01.2022 Kids complaining about sore feet? Due to growth spurts, shoes should be checked every 3-6 months to make sure they are the right size. Aching feet can cause your child to suffer from difficulty in walking, running and playing sports... in some cases the problems don’t always stop at the feet...... If the complaining continues, why not consider booking an osteopathy appointment to get some more information, have an assessment done, advice or referral for your next steps. #osteopathyaustralia #osteopathicmedicine #osteo #osteopath #osteoarmidale #osteopatharmidale #alliedhealth #alliedhealtharmidale #armidale #armidalelife #armidalensw #armidalehealth #armidalefitness #armidalekids #armidalekindergym #armidalehealthprofressionals #shopsmallseptember #supportsmallbusiness #newengland #newenglandliving #newenglandnsw #oomphosteopathy
16.01.2022 With this freezing cold weather sticking around for the weekend, we thought we’d share this insight from Emma at In Motion Psychology about training and exercise stress and the importance of GOOD RECOVERY - this weekend is your chance - take it! From In Motion Psychology : Training & exercise places considerable stress on the body. However, how often do you actually give back to your body? The concept of giving back is related to exercise, in that the act of exercise can... actually be an act of caring for your body. But if you train at high intensities, lift weights, or maintain a training regime PLUS look after other aspects of your life, how often do you give back to your body BEFORE it tells you it needs care? Consider how much you ask your body to do. What is involved in your exercise is one facet. But you also ask your body to get you out of bed each day, make breakfast, drive the kids to school, go to work all before lunchtime! Giving yourself permission to take care of yourself before feeling fatigued, tired, sore, & so on can, for some people, feel quite foreign & uncomfortable. But proactively engaging in behaviours that give back to your body is one way to firsthand experience the benefits (which will promote you to do more of it in the future). Massage, stretching, yoga, walking, swimming. These are all things you can do. But giving back to your body also includes observing the way you speak about yourself & your body, or self-talk. It may sound corny, but actually respecting what your body can do & giving your body a metaphoric pat on the back for its abilities via self-talk is one way to appreciate it. Over the coming days, take note of the way you talk about your body to yourself. Is it positive, appreciative, respectful? Or is it negative & critical? If what you say to yourself is something you would never say to your best friend, then ask yourself why talking to yourself in such way is reasonable. More respectful self-talk is one way to then initiate behaviours that care for your body.

11.01.2022 DRY NEEDLING vs ACUPUNCTURE. Acupuncture is a complementary medical practice rooted in traditional Chinese medicine that entails stimulating certain points on the body most often with a needle penetrating the skin to alleviate pain or to help treat various health conditions. Dry needling is a technique employed by physical therapists and is similar in that a needle is inserted into the skin to alleviate pain. However the primary difference between acupuncture and dry nee...dling is that acupuncture treats for the purpose of altering the flow of Qi (or energy) along traditional Chinese meridians while dry needling follows evidence-based guidelines, recommended point locations, and dosages for the treatment of specific conditions. We commonly use dry needling within our Osteopathic consults with the goal of addressing neuromuscular conditions, relieving pain, and/or improving range of motion. Evidence to date supports that dry needling improves pain control, reduces muscle tension and normalizes dysfunctions of the motor end plates, the sites at which nerve impulses are transmitted to muscles. This can help speed up the patient's return to active rehabilitation. Want to know more? Or think this could help? 10.01.2022 So what is an osteopath? An osteopath focuses on your whole body, including the soft tissues (such as muscles, ligaments and tendons), the spine and nervous system and how they interact with each other. Whilst no two osteopaths are the same, they generally use a variety of different hands-on methods, including:... *Spinal manipulation *Soft tissue massage techniques *Articulation gentle rhythmic joint movements *Stretching muscles and joint capsules *Muscle energy techniques encouraging muscles to work against resistance *Visceral manipulation gentle movement of the abdominal and pelvic areas. *Dry needling - for muscle tension release. As osteopathic techniques include a gentle approach, they can be suitable for many people, from the newborn to the older person, and for those with complex medical problems. You do not need a referral to see an osteopath - you can book online at any time!
