20.01.2022 If you’re looking for a striking evergreen tree the Candlenut (Aleurites moluccanus)is the perfect choice. With its beautiful maple-like foliage and cream/white flowers it’s great for making a statement on its own or planting as a living fence or boundary marker. Like the Macadamia it has an amazing oily nut that has many uses. The easiest being if you're caught without a torch, light it and it will burn for 15 minutes! #opalsnursery... #growinggemsforyourbackyard See more

15.01.2022 We have lots of beautiful Cycads (Cycas revoluta) ranging in size and price from $20 to $100 each. These stunning feature plants not only make a statement in your garden but also benefit your soil in much the same way as legumes. Their coralloid roots contain symbiotic cyanobacteria (blue-green algae), which fix nitrogen and, in association with root tissues, produce such beneficial amino acids as asparagine and citrulline. 15.01.2022 The beautiful and unusual new growth of the Bunya Pine (Aracauria bidwillii). If you have the space why not plant one of these ancient majestic trees. These living fossils date from the Jurassic period and are from the same family as the famous Wollemi Pines (Wollemia nobilis). They are of immense cultural significance to Indigenous Australians and Bunyas are a wonderful source of bush tucker with their enormous nuts that taste similar to chestnuts. Bunya Pines make a be...autiful feature in large gardens. #opalsnursery #growinggemsforyourbackyard #bunyapine #bunyanut #dinosaurfood

13.01.2022 Our Davidson Plums (Davidsonia jerseyana) are enjoying the rain and showing off their delicate new growth. These slender rainforest trees, that will grow even in the tiniest garden space, produce plum-shaped fruit that grow in clusters along the stem. The plums are fast becoming a favourite of native bush fruits as they have an intense flavour and colour and are packed with antioxidants. They make sensational sauces to flavour everything from savoury dishes to dessert and ...even liqueurs! #opalsnursery #growinggemsforyourbackyard #davidsonplums

12.01.2022 These cute little om-nom-nom-nivores are making a bit of a mess around the nursery at the moment. But seeing as though they'd be eating a lot of unwanted bugs, and are a sign of a very healthy environment, we're happy to share our space with these native marsupials. P.S. Bandicoots please don't eat our plants!

10.01.2022 It might be winter but now’s the time to be thinking of planting shade trees for summer and it is the perfect time to plant one of our best known bush tucker trees, the Macadamia (Macadamia integrifolia). These beautiful ornamental shade trees with thick glossy leaves love to get in and branch out their roots before the heat of summer. Apart from the well known nutritious and flavoursome nuts, they encourage bees (including the native Stingless bee) into your garden w...ith their clusters of flowers. #opalsnursery #growinggemsforyourbackyard
