18.01.2022 Copied from Yarra Valley Community Notice Board. Sunday the 2nd of August Health minister Mr Greg Hunt announced any Australian living in a lockdown area under a public health order will be able to access an additional 10 sessions under Better Access Psychological Support Services through Medicare. "That will apply right across Victoria and if more areas in Australia were to face this, it would apply to them," Mr Hunt said.... "So this expansion of services is a $7.3 million investment but its not the money. Its the support for individuals who are facing additional challenges." Regardless of your thoughts towards Covid and the arguments of the importance of lockdown, its important to remember that everyone is different in how they will respond to restrictions on social outings and in-person contact. The experience of loneliness and ways of coping with it are very individual. Some people enjoy being alone and those that have extra household members at home may even find this difficult. Other people may be struggling with reduced or no in-person social contact. For those who live with others, it can be helpful to talk about your different needs so these can be understood. Stay connected. For all of us, social relationships help maintain good mental health, so it is important to maintain some level of contact with our social networks. This can be as simple as phoning or writing to a friend to share your experience, using facetime calls to check in with a family member, or spending quality time with people you live with. While social media can be great for maintaining contact with others, be mindful of not overusing it, as you may be drawn into discussions of all the challenges, and be exposed to lots of negative news and opinions. When using it, try to also share positive news. Take a break from watching the news as it can make us feel preoccupied about how bad things feel. If you are struggling to manage feelings of loneliness or if you are experiencing other challenges (e.g., physical or mental health difficulties, trauma, domestic violence) please do seek help. Please add anymore resources that you know of to the comments. And youre welcome to keep bumping this too. Thank you. Its ok to not be ok. Reach out. 14.01.2022 Today is #DaffodilDay. Sadly, an Australian is diagnosed with cancer every four minutes. Thats nearly 150,000 Australians every year. We all know someone who has been touched by it. While times are tough for many people right now, if youre able to Id encourage you to support the Daffodil Day Appeal. Every dollar raised helps fund life-saving research. Fighting cancer is one of my governments top priorities and every year we invest billions in life-saving and life-changing treatments, research and screening and other programs. #DaffodilDay is about Australians coming together to help stop this terrible disease.

07.01.2022 I nearly took the bait!! This afternoon I received a phone call thanking me for my $499 eBay purchase and advising of estimated delivery. (What eBay purchase...?!) It then went on to say if you didnt intend to make this purchase please press 1 they nearly had me! Thankfully all the BeConnected workshops and training we have done, kept me calm in an otherwise scary moment. These people are trained professionals, paid to encourage us to take the bait. Even trained professionals make mistakes, but practice definitely helps us to stay on the ball. Both on the phone and online. BeConnected sessions are free and are short sharp 3-5 minute modules, perfect for the beginners! We can print them for those who do not have access to the internet. So please let us know. And beware of this latest scam!!! #pangerang #beconnected #scamwatch #goodthingsfoundation #bettertogether #togetherwangcan #wangaratta #digitalliteracy
