25.01.2022 Here's another very special moment from our recent "virtual graduation" for our 2020 Opening Doors Outer East leaders. We don't want to spoil the fun, so we'll let Kermie do the talking. Or singing! That you to our graduate Pauline for taking us out on such a high note!
23.01.2022 Congratulations to Opening Doors graduate Mel Spencer on her induction into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women! A wonderful acknowledgement for a truly remarkable leader. Since graduating from Opening Doors in 2015, Mel's work with Different Journeys and The Pathways for Carers project has transformed thousands of lives across Victoria, driven by her passion for supporting young people with ASD, their families, friends and carers. We hope you'll join us in celebrating Mel's... achievements and everything that she does for her community. http://tinyurl.com/dj-inductee
20.01.2022 We’d like to take this opportunity to celebrate our remarkable Opening Doors graduate Marisa Briant. Anyone who has worked with Marisa will know she is one of the most passionate, inclusive, heart-centred leaders in our community. Marisa will be moving on from her position as Opening Doors Outer East coordinator in the New Year, but will continue to remain very active in our wonderful group of Opening Doors alumni. We can’t thank Marisa enough for everything she has contributed to Opening Doors since her graduation in 2018, and look forward to supporting her in whatever comes next. We hope you’ll join us in sharing the love and wishing Marisa all the best for the next chapter in her journey.
20.01.2022 In celebration of International Women's Day 2021, Opening Doors graduate Emma Finch has created a remarkable series of portraits - paying tribute to the women who have had a lasting impact on her life. If you look closely, you might just see a few familiar Opening Doors faces! "Women of Influence" is showing at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre until March 21st, with details in the comments below. Congratulations to Emma on this truly phenomenal achievement. #IWD2021
20.01.2022 Our 2019 graduate Esther has created the brilliant Melbourne Lockdown Stories project - inviting community members to share their experiences, challenges, and what they've learnt about themselves during the Covid-19 restrictions. We highly encourage you to head over and give her page a massive like. In this post, Esther's fellow 2019 graduate Ken shares his experiences of taking his work, passions and community project online - and what he's learnt about himself as a leader in the process. Thank you Ken, and congratulations Esther on keeping us connected and sharing these stories with us all. #socialinclusion #communityleadership #COVID19

17.01.2022 Last year Opening Doors graduates Abby and Sharon launched the highly popular Empowering Abilities group. We're thrilled to announce they will be running a virtual workshop this Friday - please see below for details, including how to RSVP. Congratulations to Abby and Sharon for bringing this brilliant initiative online!
17.01.2022 This week our leaders explored the question: "What advice would I give to my pre-Covid self?" There were wonderful reflections on staying grounded, revisiting our core values and letting go of unnecessary distractions - but more than anything, there was a growing realisation that we have the unique opportunity to shape our path forward from here. Going "back to normal" doesn't have be our default goal over the coming months, particularly when "normal" may not have been serving us well to begin with. How about you? What advice would you give your pre-Covid self?
14.01.2022 Opening Doors 2017 graduate Yunus is a remarkable leader in Melbourne's Rohingya community. We were thrilled to see him interviewed by SBS about the work he has been doing to keep people safe, informed and connected throughout the Covid-19 restrictions. https://www.sbs.com.au//how-can-you-reduce-spreading-of-my

Nang has achieved some incredible things in her local community, as well as working to support countless international students - especially during such uncertain times. This is a wonderful interview, and we hope you'll join us in celebrating Nang's achievements!
11.01.2022 It was wonderful to catch up with our 2019 Opening Doors leaders yesterday! Many things may have changed since these remarkable humans graduated six months ago, but their spirit of care, connection and inclusion remains as strong as ever. We'd love it if you could give them a massive like!
09.01.2022 Last year a remarkable group of leaders embarked on our very first Opening Doors Program in Melbourne's Outer East. We recently joined with them to celebrate their achievements, and to reflect on their journey over the past nine months. Will there be a graduation ceremony? Absolutely! Nothing can substitute for the real thing, and we can't wait to celebrate with these incredible humans in person as soon as possible. But for now, we'd love it if you could give these leaders a massive like, and join us in welcoming them into the Opening Doors family. Congratulations to all of you!

07.01.2022 What an amazing group of leaders! Amidst all the challenges of 2020, it's been endlessly inspiring to see so many of our Opening Doors graduates working to keep their communities connected in new and innovative ways. It was wonderful to catch up with these brilliant humans earlier this week.
05.01.2022 We recently asked our graduates the question: "What can we do together that we can't do apart?" In response, our 2020 graduate Ruchi wrote the following poem. We hope it resonates with you as much as it did with us! "Being apart the energies are scattered, and together those energies are powerful enough to light a fire... Being apart it’s an idea, and together it’s a movement Being apart is more of the self, and together it’s selflessness Being apart we may explore and invent, but together we improve and get encouraged Together a smile turns into laughter, and an achievement becomes a celebration Being apart we may experience loneliness, but being together, even isolation appear not too bad Being apart we live in individual houses, but together we build a strong, safe, progressive and prosperous community Being apart we may pray, but together those prayers bring rains to end bush fires Being apart we may hope, but together those hopes are actualised and become a reality Being apart we have a culture, a religion, a belief - but together we are a nation. We are humans and we are the universal truth Together we are not just alive, but we are living And only together can we raise a toast to celebrate our togetherness"
05.01.2022 CCOEI has its Grand Finale Extravaganza of the free and online multicultural concert series on Sunday the 18th of October at 6:30pm. To login, like or follow th...e CCOEI Facebook page this coming Sunday evening and enjoy. Everyone is welcome! The concert brings together culturally diverse community performers and groups to deliver an evening full of music, song and dance. CCOEI encourage you to gather around at home to watch a mix of cultural and professional performances; laugh together, dance to the music and share the enjoyment with your friends and family online. The coronavirus pandemic has meant we haven’t been able to see all our friends and family for a long time. It has presented many challenges for all of us during this time of lockdown and restrictions. However this four-part series has brought us together in laughter and the joy of connecting and sharing albeit ‘virtually’. This series of four fortnightly grass-roots events over September and October have been a lovely way to build engagement and connectedness between communities living in lockdown and in harmony.
04.01.2022 Opening Doors coordinator Alex Mills recently caught up for a 'virtual coffee' with Sophie Allen from the Inner East Primary Care Partnership. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore leadership and inclusion in the time of Covid-19, and to discuss plans for our 2020 / 21 leadership program. Thank you so much to Sophie and all of our amazing partners at the Inner East PCP!

03.01.2022 A big shout out to our wonderful graduates of 2020 from the Outer East who recently came together for an online reunion. Each of you are incredible humans and community leaders. We can’t wait until that special day when we can retake this photo and celebrate with you in person.
