Through the support of the NDIS and Open Minds, the Masso family are able to get out and about in their Townsville community and undertake activities that they love. 19.01.2022 This afternoon our Board and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) were lucky enough to have a special guest attend our Strategic Workshop - QLD Mental Health Commissioner, Ivan Frkovic. Ivan spoke to our team about the pressures the COVID-19 has put on the sector, changes and challenges that he has witnessed, and what he sees for the future. Our board and ELT were listening intently whilst also ensuring they were nice and socially distanced.

12.01.2022 We're halfway through Movember, a month of movement to tackle prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental illness and suicide. Mental Health, especially in this ongoing uncertain pandemic, needs to be a priority for all. Unfortunately, too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence. Movember is aiming to reduce the rate of male suicide by 25% by 2030, we want to help them achieve this goal.... Are you taking part in a Movember challenge this year to raise money and awareness for men's health? Open Minds has a Movember team who is MOVEing for Men's Health. You can donate to our team via https://mvmbr.co/3pzXamn #movember #menshealth #suicideprevention #mentalhealth #mentalillness #cancer

11.01.2022 2020 has been filled with many curveballs... and this can cause us to dwell on what might have been or despair at being unable to plan. Plus, our minds never stop working. Sometimes they can run on overdrive and affect our emotions, whether that’s happiness, stress, fear or sadness. Overthinking or allowing your mind to circle these negative thoughts can develop bad mental states, which is why it’s important to practice mindfulness. Here are some tips on how to practice mindfulness, and it's easier than you may think https://bit.ly/333tKDo

10.01.2022 It was a very exciting day today! Open Minds have been working with Adapt Housing to build a Robust SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation), the first of it’s kind for QLD. Such a milestone day for all involved, as the investors, builders, developers, support team and clients stepped foot onto the recently poured slab. Clients were given an opportunity to make their mark on their new home and place their hands in concrete to memorialise the special moment. ... Open Minds CEO, Paula Mayson said one of the clients told me how excited they were to invite their mum over and cook for her. He hasn’t been able to do thatever. Adapt Housing even involved him in what paint colour he wanted. This is more than just a house, it’s life changing. He gets to be supported 24/7 in his own home, and make his own decisions he can see his friends when he wants to and build on his relationships with his family. The house is due for completion in early 2021. Subscribe and follow Open Minds to stay updated of its progress and any SIL Vacancies https://bit.ly/2JvHiAI
