25.01.2022 Hi WA trail runners! For rent is our little shed/studio. Only 10min walk into town or 1km run into the local trails. Hikers and mountain bikers also welcome, there is also secure storage for bikes, use of hose and tools for your bike, a washing machine and a bbq. In the bedroom we have a minibar fridge, microwave and kettle, basically all you need for a weekend of adventure in Margaret River. Just bring your linen and you are ready to go. 25.01.2022 We had an amazing 2 night mid week break at Pemberton and there was no doubt we were hitting the trails both running and mountain biking. This is a truly amazing town to explore as it is basically surrounded by forest and some decent hills. Also had the chance to share some trails and coffee with the @perth.trail.series legends who are making some great work to put Pemberton in the map for all the Adventure seekers. 24.01.2022 The Contos hill might be in the memory of anyone who run either leg 2/3 or did the solo #margaretriverultra last weekend, in my case I have run/hike/ride it few times and I gotta say that if it is HARD going up that only means it is FUN coming down. Who else loves that accelerating feeling you get on fast or technical downhills, who else loves to shred trails? 21.01.2022 Welcome to Pemberton, where the trees are tall and the hills steep. If you love trails (as we do) this is a town you must visit, right from the main caravan park/town you will find great mtb trails and hiking tracks, the Munda Biddi and also the Bibbulman track. 18.01.2022 Off the roads into the trails, off the trails looking for some secret spots. A good friend in Canada took me into tours of his secret spots in BC few years ago. Now in Margs, with winter at our doorstep and the rivers flowing, it is time to find more of these secret spots not even locals will have idea they exist. I love the fact of living in a surf town surrounded by so mush bush and forrest, the trails are almost always empty while the waves are overcrowded, it is a WIN for... me to have hours of running on my own on those trails, however it feels like a waste knowing that those trails are there and not many people get to use them. 16.01.2022 MOU-My Own Ultra. Over a year ago I decided to stay away from training for races and instead focus my running on full enjoyment. I have spent many hours every week learning to know my body and how it reacts around my work, training, nutrition, and most importantly my well loved life style (all the naughty bits). It has been over 15 months since my last solo race (43km trail/mountain) and just now I feel my body might be ready to do my first proper ultra distance. 15.01.2022 Do you know where this spot is on the c2c and what it means for the MRU runners? After a great event a few days ago, I have decided I will run "My Own Ultra", 80k in my backyard, running solo and with basic support. Why? I'm not really the racing type, but in the mean time I do like to set my own challenges. I have to admit, it is a mix of encouragment from other runners, the fact my partner wants to see me in real pain, and just the good feeling I've had on the trails lately... that has made me decide to accomplish my first big ultra distance in one go. 14.01.2022 How great the trails look after a storm! However they are not as pleasant to run with infinite obstacles in the way. Today was meant to be a big day on the c2c, however I did not want to be the first person to explore the track on my own after the massive storm, so instead I decided to go for a 50k run around town including 3 of the OTIRS loops (Weir, Jedi and Creekside+Pines) and linked them with some of my other favorite trails. If you plan to run any of the local trails pl...ease be careful as there are many hazards out there at the moment! I like to think I am a confident runner on very technical trails, but today 2 big sticks on the ground got in my way and there was no way of avoiding falling on my knees, stacked twice in a single run... prior to today I only had another couple of falls, maybe I need to learn to run in winter . 10.01.2022 Another race with the local team "Runbelivable". There is nothing better than sharing the trails with your mates. Less than a year ago we put together a team to race in 2020, since then the team has got stronger, not just the fact that we got 2nd place on the Mix category again (and this time we close the gap to the same winner team), but most importantly, I believe there hasn't been a week since then that we haven't met on the trails for a run together. BBQ's with families, ...coffee catch ups, dinners and beers over the last months also show what a team really means. 10.01.2022 What an awesome night it was! A few weeks ago I decided to run my last ultra of the year (+50k in the dark) and then invited some runners to join... I honestly was not expecting this turn out, 13 runners did the 20k loop, 6 added another 10k, 1 more join me for a total of 50k, and then I finished with a solo 7k. The night was perfect, warm with an almost full moon. Local Margs trails never disappoint, but the highlight of the adventure was the smiles from friendly trail runn...ers that share the same love for trails as we do at Open Trails. 07.01.2022 69km in, and still (always) smiling! MOU was a total success, besides my stomach not wanting to properly digest food for the last 30km, and a very scary river mouth crossing, the whole day went smooth as planned. My Own Ultra was not a race or an attemt on smashing incredible times, instead, it was a long day on the trails doing what I love and learning how to run an ultra my own way, in other words it was a training run. Over the last year I have done some 40-50km runs, neve...r on a race and always at a comfortable pace. The same way I started and finished the day, right from the first to the last km I run at what I call "my own pace", feeling and listening to my body, slowing when I needed, pushing a bit more when possible. I took my time at my own set up aid stations (about 43min in total), ate and drank what I could, had a chat and made a joke or two to my support crew, and then kept going. What's next? More long training trail runs focusing on my nutrition and getting stronger before I even think in longer distances, after all I have no rush and will only try a big distance when I am almost confident I can go back to the trails within few days. 06.01.2022 So many shades of green! This wide track comes out of Rotary Park and is what I call "my connection trail" to all the local trails in town. It is also a great easy out and back walk/run or a little 2km loop if you turn around at the weir. This is also a very popular spot for Saturday runners as the local Parkrun is run there. If you have the chance to run any small section of the Cape to Cape (no matter wich one) we do totally recommend you to make it a sunset run, the trail itself feels like a completely different place and on top of that you get some really amazing coastal views. 04.01.2022 Grass tree valley, thousand of them in between the Boranup Forest and the coastal bushland near contos. Places like this are better seen in person than in photos, that's why after finding this spot on one of my "exploring trail runs" two weeks ago, I had to go back and show it to Lisa. Two weeks later we made it on our bikes and a day later I had to run there again just to have a few seconds look at it, turn back and keep running. If you ask me why I run and ride trails this ...is the reason, to discover places I would have never been if it wasn't for the love of trails, to go further and out of the paths most people are comfortable with, and just for the sake of seeing new things, getting lost in nature and always finding your way back. 03.01.2022 What a day for a coastal run! This is gonna be for sure the best photo spot on the c2c. It took me 3 weeks to make peace with the idea of going back on the c2c after running MOU. I wasn't actually planning on going back for a bit longer (love running in the bush/forest) but after couple of beers on our Sunday crew run my friend Andrew asked me if I would like to go for a recce run of leg 3 of the #margaretriverultra and the obvious answer was YES. I did regreat it a bit while... running the endless beach section on a 28 degree day, but the idea of a swim at the end, and the muffins and contis at @yardbyrd_witchcliffe kept me focus to just keep going. Our local team will be racing again with a new girl replacing our friend @katielovis1 who is taking part of the "solo" event (you got it mate!). I don't feel like wishing luck to any of the 1500 runners taking part of this event, instead I hope you all enjoy this race as much as I have done it in the past, run happy, embrace the weather and conditions, cheer other runners, support your team mates, forget about the ...sand, and remember there is beer at the end.
