06.01.2022 People are being warned to be on the look out for measles after a man diagnosed with the illness visited Newtown, Marrickville and Darling Harbour last week whi...le infectious. The unvaccinated man, in his 20s, contracted the illness after being exposed to an infectious child visiting from Thailand. People who were in the following locations should remain alert for symptoms until January 26, as the time from exposure to the onset of symptoms is 10 to 18 days. * Bungalow 8, King St Wharf, from 7pm Friday, January 4 to 3am Saturday, January 5; * The train from Newtown to Town Hall on Saturday, January 5 at 7pm; * Albion Place Hotel, George Street, Sydney, on Saturday, January 5 from 7 to 11.15 pm; * The bus from Town Hall (Castlereagh St) to King Street, Newtown on Saturday, January 5 at 11:30pm. * Anytime Fitness Newtown on Monday, January 7 (5-7pm) and Tuesday, January 8 (5-6pm); * Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre and Marrickville Metro Medical Centre on Wednesday, January 9 from 1.30-2.30pm; * Service NSW Marrickville on Wednesday, January 9 from 1.45 - 2pm. Measles is highly contagious and is spread in the air when an infectious person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms include fever, sore eyes and a cough, followed three or four days later by a red, blotchy rash spreading from the head and neck to the rest of the body. If you develop symptoms please call ahead to your GP so that you do not wait in the waiting room with other patients. The measles-mumps-rubella vaccine is safe and highly effective protection against measles, and is available from your GP.
