13.01.2022 What to expect from cataract surgery The lens in the eye can become cloudy and hard, a condition known as a cataract. Cataracts can develop from normal aging, from an eye injury, or if you have taken medications known as steroids. Cataracts may cause blurred vision, dulled vision, sensitivity to light and glare, and ghost images. If the cataract changes vision so... much that it interferes with your daily life, the cataract may need to be removed. Surgery is the only way to remove a cataract. Insight Eye Surgery’s ophthalmologist Dr Adams will help you decide on the type of intraocular lens (IOL) that will replace your cloudy lens (cataract). Cataract surgery is a commonly performed surgery and the success rate is higher than 99%. You will need to use eye drops after the surgery these will be provided to you. Sometimes the pupil remains dilated for a day or two due to the dilating drops we use during surgery which can make things seem blurry. Most people notice their vision is clearer within a couple of days but sometimes it can take longer for everything to settle down. Different people recover at different rates - this can depend on the density of the cataract removed, the shape of your eye, your age and your pre-existing eye health. At Insight Eye Surgery, we care about your comfort and wellbeing. If you have any concerns prior to your surgery please talk with us. We also provide an information sheet, Preparation for eye surgery, available at: https://insighteyesurgery.com.au/fo/resources-for-patients/ To find out more about cataract surgery and what to expect, visit our website: https://insighteyesurgery.com.au/cataract-surgery/ Insight Eye Surgery is a Known Gap Provider. 09.01.2022 The Fred Hollows Connection Dr Sanduk Ruit is a skilled ophthalmologist who can perform a cataract surgery in under five minutes, he’s a man with a vision, a humanitarian and a lifelong friend of Fred Hollows. While Dr Ruit was working on the Nepal Blindness Survey in the 80s, he met a bold and straight-talking Aussie ophthalmologist called Fred Hollows. They became fast friends and Fred soon became his mentor. Over many nights drinking and talking about the world, both men ...quickly realised they shared the same vision: to bring affordable eye care and modern cataract surgery to people living in Nepal and other developing countries. Read Dr Ruit’s story here: https://www.hollows.org//w/our-stories/sanduk-ruit-s-story Insight Eye Surgery’s Dr Madeleine Adams (pictured at left, with Dr Malita Shrestha and Dr Ruit) worked for the Fred Hollows Foundation as a clinical fellow in Central Australia and Nepal.
