16.01.2022 In 1978, a 1 in 20 year flood ripped through the Shoalhaven. With it went a lot of the coastal and river bank vegetation. A professional fisherman by the name of Charlie Weir started an organisation in the early 1980s to help rehabilitate the river. As a fisherman Charlie saw the impacts of his industry on the environment and realised the importance of mangroves for river health and fish habitat. Over time Charlie, a passionate advocate for the environment, propagated and p...lanted over 100,000 mangroves and 25,000 casuarina trees along more than seven kilometres of the Shoalhaven riverbank.
