25.01.2022 Being a therapy dog via Telehealth suits Hazel quite perfectly considering she’s never been great at washing her paws or social distancing... @winnieandhazel @megsull76

24.01.2022 One more week until we head back to home learning! We’ve heard from families who are concerned about their Prep and early primary school-aged children who were only just getting going with reading. It is so important that these skills continue to develop over the coming term. What can you do? 1. Talk. The constant talking in your house might be driving you nuts but conversations have such a huge impact on your child’s oral language skills which pave the way for literacy. ... 2. Read. Continue to develop your child’s love of books, words, rhyming and shared reading. You may not know it but one day you’ll miss the sound of a Julia Donaldson book. 3. Jump on board and watch the clip from Spelfabet’s Alison Clarke who explains how children learn to read (all of her excellent resources are currently 30% off) 4. Be creative - how can you incorporate sound games at home? For those of you who have been in the Optiform waiting room, you’ll have more than likely played with our giant magnetic letter board (made by the insanely talented Eliza from Arabella + Autumn). You don’t necessarily need one of these at home but you can purchase individual sound packs for the fridge or make your own! We’ll continue to share ideas for home learning this term. We'd also love to see what you are doing. Enjoy the last week of school holidays everyone, you’ve got this!

24.01.2022 For some kids, transitioning between activities can be really challenging. Just as difficult is managing big emotions such as losing, leaving and experiencing disappointment. We feel for you Don... Enjoy. I have. Many, many times. https://fb.watch/1CYkGWL0VM/

21.01.2022 It looks as though Telehelath has been around for longer than we think! You'll be relieved to know that it is not "fully automated" however.

21.01.2022 Looking for ideas on how to keep your kids moving at home? Love this from The OT Toolbox - not only does it incorporate motor skills and movement, it also focuses on letter recognition! Happy Wednesday

20.01.2022 Staff meetings just a bit less crowded. But by no means less quiet!

19.01.2022 When parents send you the most heartwarming pictures of their child’s progress through the week and tell you how proud they are of them Helps us to remember why we do, what we do! This family have been working on pincer grasp and all the fine motor skills that are needed for this, so their little treasure can produce his masterpieces!! #OccupationalTherapy #OT #HomeTherapyProgram #OptiformBallarat

18.01.2022 From one of our little friends today I’m gonna find that virus and I’m gonna get it with my sword

17.01.2022 This week we said farewell to one of our much loved Occupational Therapists Ash. Ash has been working with us since 2017 and leaves us to start a new venture. We are so thankful for everything Ash has brought to Optiform and the countless families that she has worked with over this time. We sure will miss this face in the building. Wishing you all the best with your new business Ash, we look forward to working with you for a long time to come.

15.01.2022 We’re all a bit broken from so much time online.... Thank you Simon from @ballaratalliedhealth for a fantastic session on keeping our necks, backs and bodies happy #thankgodformutebuttons #stretch

15.01.2022 Storms aren’t so frightening after all....

14.01.2022 It’s not just a beautiful work of art, this giant magnetic whiteboard with hand crafted wooden letters are absolutely perfect for playing with sounds and words at home @arabella_autumn is where it’s at!

13.01.2022 It's Speech Pathology Australia Week. We have a few of these floating about Optiform. I'm pretty blessed to work with such a remarkable team of dynamic "Speechies" - Kate, Tessa and Lucy.

12.01.2022 LET THEM PLAY! Another great reminder from The OT Toolbox about why play is so important in a child’s development!

11.01.2022 Starting the week off with some fine motor skills, letter recognition and letter formation! Not all of our kids love practicing their handwriting, as it can be quite tricky for them. Why not incorporate some of their interests - like these Lego Letters from Little Bins for Little Hands Good luck for the week ahead

09.01.2022 Participants who rely on face-to-face supports and assistance will be able to claim the cost of PPE. From today in VIC and NSW. Stay safe everyone

08.01.2022 Some incredible insight from Hamish Blake giving advice to his younger self on Mental Health in Teens. So often teenagers, and parents alike, find this developmental period tricky to navigate. The social, school, family and interpersonal worlds collide and the young person feels trapped in this ideal that they feel they have to uphold. But as Hamish relays, its ok not to know who you are at 14, its ok to make mistakes and feel like you don’t fit - something bigger is coming

07.01.2022 Another really interesting post from The OT Toolbox looking at the different types of attention in kids! Can you see your kids in these categories? The mover, the squirmer or the daydreamer? #OccupationalTherapy

07.01.2022 We love seeing our TeleHealth sessions in action! This is the wonderful Ruby, working on her spelling in session yesterday with our Speech Pathologist, Lucy.

05.01.2022 Viruses are so much nicer in felt.... This is a great clip for kids by KiwiCo that shows how a virus spreads and why social distancing is so very important. https://www.youtube.com/watch

04.01.2022 If you've just pulled a 10 hour day homeschooling and feeding the kids and don't have it in you for bedtime stories, then here's another gift for you. Pour a gin (for you) and put this on repeat. Thanks Mr B https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkWSP8qgMD8

03.01.2022 It’s so, so quiet! We miss our crazy waiting room....

02.01.2022 Hi everyone, crazy times. Obviously we should all be wearing masks when we leave our homes but this a huge challenge for people with sensory needs or ASD. Here are some great strategies for supporting others to state safe and wear a mask
