23.01.2022 A yum falafel rainbow bowl for lunch today. Taking this bowl out into the sun for a boost of vitamin D. The benefits of sunshine are immense! Vitamin D from the sun’s rays can help to modulate our body’s immune response, helping us fight coughs, colds and allergies alike. Access to light (natural or otherwise), also helps with our circadian rhythm as well as our mood and disposition as well as many other benefits! Safe and balanced sun exposure, even 10-15 mins per day, cannot be underestimated for the part it plays in our health and wellbeing Neither can a rainbow bowl full of all the yummy things! Happiest Thursday friends!
20.01.2022 Mangos are just starting to grace us with their seasonal presence and boy am I happy about that! I don’t know about you, but I feel that there is no clean way to eat a mango, but perhaps this trick can help prevent some of the mess that comes with eating this tasty fruit! Plus, in case you needed an excuse to add some mango to your week or even day! Did you know that the leaves of the mango plant have been used to help regulate diabetes? Traditionally, mango leaves have b...een boiled in water and left to soak overnight and then the drink is consumed in the morning. They can also be used topically to help unclog pores. If you have a spot, slice off a little bit of mango, place on the skin for 10-15 minutes, wash off et voila. Amazing! Not to mention the fruit itself is full of antioxidant power and had components that aid digestion and immunity as well as skin, hair and eye health. I mean what is there not to love! See more
20.01.2022 In my role as a nutritionist, I see many people focussing so much on what they’re taking out and placing little focus on what they’re putting in. There are so many conflicting opinions out there, that it makes it so hard to know what to believe as true. I think stripping it back to basics is key. Diets don’t work because they focus on restriction. But, we as humans are constantly seeking pleasure and enjoyment. There is no fun in a bland plate that offers no excitement and no... flavour. Focus on what lights you up. Build healthy habits around that. If you enjoy a burger, why don’t you try making your own version at home? If you enjoy some chocolate or a glass of wine, don’t omit them entirely, rather give yourself permission to enjoy some every so often. If you need to eat more fruit and veg, find fun ways of including them. Build healthy habits based on love. Stop living in fear that everything you put in your mouth will affect the size or appearance of your body or perhaps the way it feels or functions. We need to foster more trust in ourselves. After all, you deserve the utmost care and respect Happiest Saturday! See more
19.01.2022 Sharing a fave today on the blog! Spring Salmon Salad. Perfect for hot days and quick to make. Not to mention it’s full of flavour and good, healthy fats. You could serve it my itself or even with some flat bread or chunky baked chips, whatever you feel like really. See link in bio for link to the recipe. Happiest Monday friends! The quiz is now up in stories too
17.01.2022 Happy Monday friends! Here’s to another week, only a handful left for 2020 now. Remember to slow down and appreciate the beauty that surrounds you. Life can be so fleeting, but stopping to create memories driven by the the smaller things in the life - like a pretty flower, the shade of a large tree, a double rainbow, a kind gesture from a stranger and more - can all add extreme value! The quiz is happening over in stories
16.01.2022 Happiest Friday! Hang time with my fluffy pal this morning. We spent a good hour outdoors in nature early this morning - my fave start to the day. Feeling inspired and energised to spend the day at the desk tackling the long to-do list! I can’t believe it’s almost another working week down - not many to go now Sharing a little Friday inspiration too - be kind, use manners and show gratitude - you have so much power, why not use it in to make a positive difference to another!
12.01.2022 From the same window, you keep seeing the same view Perspective is so important in life’s journey. In any given moment, the perspective we choose impacts, and oftentimes reflects, our outcomes. Perspective can make your problems look larger than life or your possibilities look infinite. Perspective can inspire new beginnings but it can also close doors. ... Perspective can motive change and growth but it can also hold us back. Perspective can be entirely empowering but if viewed differently, it can be disempowering at the same time. Sometimes all it takes is a change in the way you view things. There are many ways to see the same situation. It is up to you to decide the outcome. Happiest Wellness Wednesday lovelies! See more
07.01.2022 Got the mid arvo munchies? Here’s a simple snack idea for you. Buckwheat crackers with avo, tomato, cucumber, a little aged cheddar and salt & pepper. So tasty, I literally just ate this! Perfect little brain boost for some arvo admin on the laptop. Happiest Thursday friends!
05.01.2022 The body is so super cool! Did you know that you can use your breath to alter your own stress response? Breathing diaphragmatically can communicate a sense of calm and safety to the nervous system. The action of deep, long and slow breaths that activate the rib cage and core, work to communicate to every cell in the body that you are safe. This practice also increases oxygen intake which rejuvenates the cells and awakens the body. Think about it, when we are stressed,... rushing or perhaps in danger, our breaths are shallow and fast and are based in the chest not in the belly. This keeps the body in a state of ‘alert’ and increases cortisol levels. By lowering cortisol levels and communicating safety, diaphragmatic breathing also allows us to use body fat as a fuel source more readily, reducing body fat and increasing metabolism. Bonus! Cortisol levels are highest in the morning, hence, there is no better time than now to start the day with 20 diaphragmatic breaths while you wait for the kettle to boil. Happy Wellness Wednesday friends! See more
02.01.2022 I went for an early morning dip in the big blue this morning! So delightful and the perfect start to my day! While I was sitting on the sand, I was thinking about the year that has been. After such a disruptive and different 2020 in many ways, I think it has challenged us in some ways for the better. It has taught us a greater perspective of what is important in life as well as burgeoning a stronger community spirit. It has encouraged new innovation and challenged us to find ...new ways to do things we’ve done one way for years on end. 2020 has allowed us the time to tune in to our individual self: to further reflect on our values, our goals, our happiness and our health. So, as we approach a new chapter, I encourage you to take the time to reflect, set some goals and tune in to what is important to you. Do you need to make shifts in your life? Do you need to find your inner voice and speak up? Do you need a fresh start or perhaps a new challenge? Do you want to reach a certain goal but are putting up mental and physical blocks? Do you need to work on being kinder to yourself or perhaps you need to implement more boundaries to support your health and happiness? Remember that we all have so much to offer in the world and if you can’t see it right this second, that’s okay. It’s okay to not know, it’s okay to figure it out as you go along. It’s okay to be work in progress, really we all are in a state constant and dynamic change at all times. Clarity is something that will show its face. Until then, take comfort in knowing your true value is varied and powerful, no matter the path that you’re on. You’ve got this! Happiest Tuesday!
