25.01.2022 Questions to ask before you book your next therapist: 1. What are your qualifications? This is important, particularly is someone is using the term "physio" ...or "chiro" or similar. If someone is trained in those professions, they will hold the relative university degree, and will be registered with their associations as such. In the animal world, these terms are not protected, as they are when used in relation to treating people. For example, my neighbour cant put up a sign out the front of her house saying shes a "kid chiro" and start treating kids. The term is protected and to be used only by those with a formal qualification and registration. At the ABPA our practitioners are all qualified and registered as either a Veterinarian, Chiropractor or Osteopath, and then train in ABM Medicine. Of course, it depends what you are looking for in a therapist. But it is your right to ask the questions and get honest answers before you make your decision on that booking.

23.01.2022 "Chiropractic therapy has a very beneficial role in the maintaining and promoting of health in small animals. Much misunderstanding surrounds this therapy, yet ...if applied with knowledge and proper technique, it is highly effective in the diagnosis and treatment of a number of conditions in small animal practice. "Vets who have been trained in this therapy all agree it has improved their skills and broadened their ability to treat patients." 23.01.2022 Whats the difference between a Animal Biomechanical Professional, and another type of equine therapist? "ABM is specifically directed at assessing the spinal b...iomechanics of animal spines, and correcting them using a variety of techniques, including the spinal adjustment. An adjustment applied by a qualified ABM professional is a much safer, more specific technique than manipulations applied by unqualified practitioners. "Spinal adjustment is a highly effective technique that really does get excellent results, and is usually very comfortable for the animal. The amount of effort or force applied in an adjustment is of course tailored to the needs of each animal, and is generally much smaller than you might think would be necessary." Our ABM Professionals are all practicing, qualified Vets, Chiropractors or Osteopaths who have also completed a Graduate Diploma in Animal Biomechanical Medicine. 22.01.2022 Time for painting..... Nearly there!!

22.01.2022 How does Animal Biomchanical Medicine work? ABM gets results by ensuring the joint & soft tissue biomechanics of an animal are as close to normal as possible. ...Why is this important? When the joints of the spine and limbs cease to function properly (either individually, or as a group), generally due to injury, a cascade of events is created, which can be broken down into two main groups: Local, and Global. Local events (restricted to the area around the injury) include; * Inflammation around the affected joint * Accelerated wear and tear of the joint * Ligament strain and inflammation * Associated pain and discomfort * Irritation to nerve endings around the joint Global events (includes more widespread effects) include; * Abnormal feedback into the central nervous system potentially producing a cascade of changes * Muscle spasm in muscles that move the affected joint * Referred pain * Abnormal sensation, numbness, tingling * Trigger points within muscles acting on the affected joint * Abnormal movement (gait) of the animal in an attempt to compensate for the problem (which generates its own complications) * Other joints become painful due to them compensating for the abnormal joints * Spinal joint problems that affect local nerve fibres (as in the spine) can often be seen to affect visceral function such as the gut, bladder and bowel through effects on the Autonomic nervous system By normalising the mechanics of dysfunctional tissues, this cascade of events is halted, since the stimulus, or cause, has been removed. A good example is where muscle spasm and trigger points will abate once the nerve supply to those muscles is no longer being affected (irritated) by a joint problem. 20.01.2022 Interesting read!!

18.01.2022 A happy mum shares her Willbys Colic Mixture Story. Will get Georgias approval as well before upload Dr Georgia Davis How did he suffer?... Wills colic started early on, he was unsettled a lot of the time, especially an hour or so after feeding, and the most later in the afternoon. He did also suffer with reflux. What were his symptoms? Wills symptoms included : - being unsettled - straining like pain an hour or two after feeding - no regular routine with sleeps and playing - crying for no real reason - just not happy!! How did you find Gai? We were told about Gai from our paediatrician Bill Capell What was involved there? He told us about the colic mixture and we called up the pharmacy and ordered some for Will. How long did it take for Will to get better? We noticed immediate improvement after the first dose. He continued having 4 doses a day before feeds and never looked back. It was fantastic he was a "different baby" Always happy and continues to be that now too. He continued on the colic mix till he was around 5 months old when he "grew out" of the colic!!

08.01.2022 When will owners get the point that hot days are not the day to suddenly decide you are going to walk the dog. Just witnessed a man walking his Bulldog in 33 ...degree heat. The owner was oblivious to the fact his dog was not enjoying the walk. The sun may have gone down, but the air temperature was too much for this breed of dog. Many years ago I personally witnessed a French Mastiff die on the side of the road of heat exhaustion. It was 23 degrees that day and the owners had decided to run their dog. The look on the owners face was absolute devastation as they attempted to save his life by throwing a bucket of water on him, but they were sadly too late as he was gone. What astounded me was they said the dog had heat exhaustion before, but clearly didnt learn from it. Even as a stranger, I will never get that image out of my mind, of that beautiful dog, dead on the side of the road. That poor dog suffered horrifically and it was clear the owners loved their dog, but just hadnt understood the risks. Dogs do not cool down in the same way as humans, so please think about your dogs welfare before taking them out in summer. Adjust the activity by taking into consideration the conditions on the day and the needs of your dog. They rely on us to make decisions for them, based on what is appropriate for the individual dog. For information on heatstroke: https://www.facebook.com//a.74637804538/1085181044834283/ Note: This is a GUIDE ONLY - it doesnt suggest to stop walking your dog in summer. Activity can be adjusted based on age, coat, nose length, breed, health, fitness, time of day, humidity, wind, temperature of ground, time of day etc.

08.01.2022 Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas The clinic will be closed between Christmas and New year but back open again from the 2nd January. Look forward to seeing everyone in the new year!

01.01.2022 Most walk their dogs everyday- sometimes you just need to get them out before going to work and other times you want to take them somewhere good but your dog ...has other ideas and wants to sniff along the way. Sniffing takes time - well sniffing is important so if you can then let them! There are numerous reasons they do this and checking in on daily PMail is one! dont fret- make the most of it and let them enjoy their walks and catch up on whats going on. See more
