25.01.2022 Second day of group training, and thank you for those who show up. It's been great watching how people train, and where their strengths and weaknesses lie. It's going to be a great journey helping those get closer to their goals, then surpass what even they thought possible. Invite your friends and keep coming.

24.01.2022 With the beginning of the year, new goals are often set or training continues. One of the things I would like to touch on is injury and the prevention of injury. Firstly often injury is caused by weaknesses in the opposing muscle groups, and this will ALWAYS take time to fix. Secondly, when prescribed with an over use injury, get a second opinion. These injuries are usually resulting from tightness around where the injury is, which in turn are going to cause inflammation, bu...t it's not necessarily an over use injury. Over use injuries happen over time, a long time. Keep in mind, an over use injury can also be caused by bad biomechanics of your every day body structure - this is important to understand and correct as if it isn't then the injury will always remain. Thirdly, don't become a victim to an injury. Work through it, but don't stop. Fourth, many of the rehab techniques, rolling and pressure point techniques will actually increase inflammation. Only use rolling and pressure point techniques to release tight muscles - which tend to be the opposing muscles and not the 'injured/sore' ones. The aim is to reduce the inflammation. I can personally vouch for Paul Parker, physio at SportsMed NQ, he is very very good. Back2Health; Mic Mueller-Coons (massage therapist) is also been recommended as very good, as he has an in depth knowledge of the body. Finally it is also very important to stick to the training program, and if you want to add something or change something, communicate with your coach, regardless of who that is. There is a reason for the program to be delivered and prescribed the way it is, changing it can result in injury. Injury is easily one of the most frustrating things about training, however it is also the most misunderstood aspect as well.
23.01.2022 Thank you to the kids & families that attended our running session this afternoon at Bicentennial Park. The kids did such a great job working on their drills this afternoon and were very patient with me learning all their names. Thursday 6am at the point end of Palleranda for our next session which is a bike-bike/run sessions. All juniors are welcome as well as any senior or beginning triathletes. Have a great week and good luck to those Cross Country runners for this week.
23.01.2022 We would like to give a quick shout out to a number of our athletes that consistently work hard and are improving week by week, regardless of how they are feeling. So to Nat & Tony Flanders, Wendy, Nikki, Bernadette, Samara, Samantha, Luke, Bruce, Gill, Carly, Roger and Maree, keep up the great work. You are all at different stages of your training but each one of you is improving week by week.

22.01.2022 To all our amazing athletes competing this weekend at either Geelong or Tinaroo, we hope you have a great day out, race had and finish smiling...well maybe smiling after you have recovered a bit first.
22.01.2022 With only about 3 weeks left until Hamilton Island Tri, we have two athletes testing the waters to see what they can do...at this stage in training I believe they can do great things...whether it's this race or one in the near future, these two ladies will go fast.
21.01.2022 Congratulations to Gill Dyson O'Malley and Carly Lubicz for their efforts at the Hamo Tri. First in age group for Gill and a senstational start triathlon for Carly. Well done ladies.
20.01.2022 We had a very busy and fantastic Sunday this week. First up out helping the guys at the Free Radicals Tribe with their first training session for the year. A great turn out with lots of new and familiar faces today. Then out to Charters Towers in the afternoon to conduct a swimming Skills session with the C T Tri & Adventure Mob. A great turn out, great people and great fun. Thank you to everyone involved.
20.01.2022 We would like to thank Caitlin Braddick from Alpha & Omega Health for running a nutrition seminar for our athletes last night. Caitlin ran a very practical and informative talk which I am sure everyone was able to take something useful away. Thank you also to all those that were able to attend, as we know it was a long drive down for some,... Nat, Roger, Jodie, Maree, Nikki, Wendy, Carly and Samara. Thanks.
19.01.2022 For anyone that knows a little about Bike Fitting, Dr Andy Pruitt is like the godfather of bike fitting. He set up the Colorado Sports Medical Clinic, bike fit...s for some of the best athletes in the world and founded the Body Geometry bike fitting system. I posted a comment from a fellow bike fitter about some issues he was having with a client experiencing pins and needles in his hands. Shortly after Dr Andy Pruitt posted a comment and feedback (see screen shot attached). Needless to say, feedback like that from someone like Andy is a very, very cool thing.
19.01.2022 Today we got to watch a number of our athletes racing the first sprint distance tri for the season. Everyone did such an amazing job, with everyone looking fantastic this morning. Well done to Nat, Tony, Carly, Wendy, Nikki, Jason, Bernadette, Samantha and Jodie, you have been putting in the hard work and it is clearly paying off for all of you.
18.01.2022 Welcome to Tom and thank you for coming along to Running Squad on Wednesday. It is a pleasure to have you with us and we look forward to continuing to help build your run. Thank you also to all the kids that attend. Each week i see little improvements in how you run, your technique and your ability to give me cheek... Looking forward to seeing you all again next Wednesday.
17.01.2022 Personal running session today with two up and coming athletes. They did brilliant. So proud of them both, especially when they didn't think they could do it. They smashed it.
17.01.2022 At OCD we offer a variety of services outside of professional triathlon coaching. Personal Swim Coaching and Learn to Swim: We offer both adult and kids learn to swim in either a one on one or two on one format. Tamara is a qualified learn to swim instructor and swim coach and has been teaching for over 20yrs experience, and as any that have worked with Tamara before, would know she is a wealth of knowledge and practical know-how.... Professional Bike Fitting: Rik has had over 7 years experience professionally bike fitting. In a Human Centred approach to fitting, we look at the athlete as a human being first and work to find the optimal fit based on the individual. We combine the science and art of bike fitting without the dependance on computer programs and gimmicks. Having trained in both the Body Geometry method and a background studying a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science and Biomechanics, he has fitted road cyclists, mountain bikers and triathletes. Strength & Conditioning: This is pretty much where it started for Tamara and I. We have worked in the fitness, personal training and strength and conditioning fields most of our lives. Strength and Conditioning is not just for footballers and power athletes, there are practical applications for endurance athletes and for your everyday person looking to unleash their inner potential. For more information or to book a session please contact us for an appointment.
17.01.2022 "Exercise and cycling for me are freedom. The freedom to have adventures, go new places, meet different people, and smash my physical and mental limits. Cycling provides a sense of purpose and enables me to live in the moment" - Hannah Macdougall, Elite Paralympic athlete
17.01.2022 Hi all, there will be a swim session on Sunday at 2.30pm at Long Tan. The first half will be a swim session, the second half will focus on breaking away at a swim start and keeping your own water throughout a race, breathing both sides, sighting, and dealing with smacks to the head. Have a great week.
17.01.2022 Gill Maree and Bruce have a BRILLIANT race tomorrow! You know what to do!
17.01.2022 So....the weather man couldn't predict it! It didn't just rain....it poured....then poured some more. It was more of a mental race than a physical race today. Every single one of our athletes did brilliant! Conditions like today are hard to train for....but you were all fit and strong enough for a brilliant race....and regardless of the times, you all did great...just great!
16.01.2022 Bruce Williamson, good luck today atPort Macquarie 70.3. You have worked hard and prepared well. We will be with youth whole way. Have a great race.

16.01.2022 Sunday 11th June 2017: Today we had a number of amazing athletes compete in both the 70.3 and the full IM. We would like to congratulate all those people that stood on the start line today and gave it everything they had. Irrespective of time or place, you are all champions in your own right. Maree Binder congratulations on 20mins faster this year, Tony for a blisteringly quick 4gr43mins and Nat for an amazing first full IM and both Nikki and Wendy for guts and determination all day.
15.01.2022 As we come close to Cairns IM and 70.3, we thought it appropriate to get some info out there about helping race day performance. Some of you are already doing...so this will be a check list!
15.01.2022 Thank you for all the athletes who came out for a training session this morning! Charters Towers, you're impressive!! '
15.01.2022 Good Morning All. We need to inform all our junior runners that we are going to have to temporarily stop the Wednesday afternoon running sessions. 10.01.2022 On his Ironman debut, congratulations Jason Hamlyn. Awesome effort today. And to all our 70.3 athletes, each and everyone one of you were amazing today, well done
09.01.2022 2021: Let’s do it different! So many New Years come and go with the same goals, get fit, lose weight, eat better. These are often followed by fad diets, over complicated and unrealistic training programs.... So your good intentions fall by the way and here we are again, another New Year. This year let us help you do it differently, let us help you do it right. OCD have extensive experience working with normal people just like you and creating long lasting results. We adopt a progressive and balanced approaches that revolves around the most important piece of the puzzle...YOU!!! No fads, no gimmicks, no get rich quick scams or free steak knives here, just tried and tested, results focused programs. We can train in a variety of locations including outdoors, at your home or work and at our home based studio. So our challenge to you is don’t over think it. Commit and let us do what we do best and get you the result you have wanted for so long...
09.01.2022 Thank you to Wendy Stimpson Lee, Nikki Hammon, Alison Bowen, Kerry Alvis and Elise Jacob for a great skills session this morning. The girls tackled every drill with enthusiasm and great success...even changing a tyre. Well done ladies.
09.01.2022 Ride number two since May 2016 and it happened to be Up Mt Stuart into a headwind. Add the Rookie mistake of rear brake rubbing on the rear wheel all the way up!!! A few encouraging words from Coach 1, more stubbornness than fitness, and ride complete. The ugliest day on the bike is still a day on the bike!!!
09.01.2022 Congratulations Bruce Williamson. 1stvin age group and 6th overall at Dirt n Dust Julia Creek triathlon today. What a great effort. Looking forward to our next goal.
08.01.2022 Well we have had a very hectic but fantastic Sunday. Out early this morning for a great session at North Shore Pool with the Free Radicals Tribe. Back again this afternoon at Long Tan Pool working with our OCD athletes for a lazy Sunday afternoon brick session. Thank you Samantha, Wendy, Maree, Troy, Carly and Elise for coming along today. Great effort from all.

07.01.2022 Hi All, We are going to write a few little pieces about coaching and training. All have real worth but are also meant to be a little tongue in cheek! Part 1: ...The Role of the Coach v's the Role of the Athlete! The role of the coach is quite a fun and sometimes intense one, anyone that has seen us on race day would know this. In a nutshell our jobs involves, planning, making sure you progress, make sure you stay injury free or at the least manage injuries, provide balance with work, families and training, worry about your performance, if you are achieving what we have in the planning phase, if you are on track, if you are peaking to soon, not soon enough, worrying about race day, that it all falls into place. It is a pretty cool job but again, can be intense. The Role of the athlete as seen by the coach! Do as much of your program as you can. Do not ad sessions. Keep your coach informed on what is going on. And there you have it. So if you find yourself spending time doing the coaches role, focus on your role as an athlete. Not only will it make your coaches role easier, it will also reduce stress for your coach on race day, if you can understand the link!!! More to come
06.01.2022 With a female dominated run session this afternoon, I would like to thank all the girls (and parents) for coming along this afternoon. It was great session with lots of progress made so well done again.
06.01.2022 This week OCD is kicking off Junior Triathlon Training Sessions, starting Monday 4.30pm & 5.30pm at Bicentennial Park, just off Queens Road. This will be a running based session and cost is $10 per person. Whilst the focus is on juniors, senior triathletes are welcome come come along. Please feel free to contact us on 0418 812 525 for further information.
06.01.2022 We would like to thank all our athletes for their dedication and hard work. Just to name a few; Three of our ladies were out on the bike together working hard, also welcoming Bridget to our group. Bridget is a young athlete with a lot of potential and we are very excited to be working towards some fantastic races goals for 2016.... Samantha has suffered an unfortunate injury and is taking a few weeks off to heal (although still allowed to swim ;-) Speedy recovery Samantha. Bruce is getting close to the Hervey Bay 100 and is training and performing very well. We are looking forward to watching that race. A timely reminder, as it is getting warmer, please focus on your hydration both during the day and around training session. In weather like ours, you should be aiming for between 150-350ml of fluid (beer does not count) every 15-20mins during exercise. It is also a good idea to weight yourself before and after training sessions, any weight lost during a session needs to be replaced 1.5 times within 2hours post exercise (again, beer not appropriate).
06.01.2022 Congratulations Baily Thomas for a first place in this mornings crit race...up a grade next week i think Baily!!!
06.01.2022 Congratulations to Bruce Williamson and Samantha Hickey today at the Townsville Tri Festival. Bruce managed 1st in his age group and 6th overall, overcoming a crash on the bike to post 2hrs 10mins in his first Olympic Distance Tri. Samantha had a strong race showing consistency in her swim, bike and run. Great effort today guys. Very proud of your hard work and effort.
05.01.2022 Hi again, We are in the process of trying to organising some trial wetsuits. If you are going to need a wetsuit for Cairns and would like to trial one before buying one, Please send us a PM with your weight, height and chest measurement.
04.01.2022 With so much talk about the benefits of high intensity interval training for increased endurance performance/triathlon performance, it is important to put this into perspective. Any experienced, qualified coach understands the benefits associated with including interval based sessions for speed, strength and power. These are critical elements to not only getting fitter, but most importantly faster. The part of the equation that is often excluded is the fact that to optimise... the results of high intensity intervals, an athlete must have a strong base or foundation. There are physiological adaptations to base training that simply do not occur at higher intensities, and it is these adaptations that provide the athlete with the tools to be able to perform at a higher intensity. Most of the elite athletes that have adopted a shortened base phase with an increase in interval based work have done so after many years of building a base. Failure to do this is simply limiting the athletic potential of an endurance athlete. No amount of marketing and salesmanship can combat normal, human physiological responses to training.
04.01.2022 Results are in for Hamilton Island tri.... And the results are great... Better than great. Gill O' Malley won her age group... Actually smashed her age group. And Carly had the third fastest ride and tenth fastest run in her age group. For her first ever tri that is a brilliant result and shows the potential these women have. Now attention to Bruce who is doing Harvey Bay 100 tomorrow!!!
04.01.2022 OCD would like to send out a huge congratulations to Jamie Cook on such a fantastic effort today in Ironman OZ. Well done Jamie. It has been a pleasure to work with you preparing for this day. Congratulations. Rik & Tamara
04.01.2022 Awesome effort last night to Tony Flanders at our weekly Wind Trainer/Run Session. Blistering 3min25sec final 1km effort after a hard session. Keep up the great work. Just a reminder guys, swimming is on again in the morning.
03.01.2022 There is now only 12 days until Mackay and 61 days until Yungaburra triathlons, then Sydney 70.3 is close behind! Group sessions this week are: Monday and Thursday morning swim sessions at Long Tan @ 5.30am Wednesday Bike/Run bricks @ 5.30 pm our place Saturday afternoon Swim/Bike/Run bricks @ 3.00pm Long Tan Pool (this session is currently not on any programs)... Group Sessions are really positive for so many reason: - If your struggling to find your mojo, all you have to do is show up - everything will happen from there! - There will be an extra push from coach...and you! - Your technique gets looked at - Your kids are catered for - Two of the sessions are bricks. This is THE most overlooked thing in training. We train swim, bike and run, but bricks train swim/bike/run all together. They are great sessions, they feel good, and they are sessions that really test where your at. All sessions are free to attend to...unless it's pool entry. Have a great training week
03.01.2022 Wishing all the athletes we coach a successful race in Cairns. Whatever your goals may be, we truly hope you achieve them. It's been an experience to train all of you, and whether you have had a successful preparation or an unsuccessful one...it's all in your mind. Change your thought, change your world. Have a great race, everyone, you've done the work. Enjoy.
03.01.2022 Changes are coming....upon reflection (that word is a little bit like 'journey' ) we are going to add a bit of spice to coaching, by adding a bit more science on our end...a touch of mental training....and a touch of core...all to improve you as an athlete. We are excited by the changes and hope you are too!
02.01.2022 To all of our athletes racing tomorrow in the Dirt n Dust Tri have a great race and heaps of fun.
02.01.2022 We are going to start offering group training sessions. Attached is the timetable for the last week of August. The program will change slightly every week. These sessions are open to all!!
