22.01.2022 "Hippocrates said Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food. Having worked in the Medical model of health care for over 30 years, I have seen the results of not using food as medicine, and the resulting impact of a life time of relying on pharmaceutical medication with its inevitable side effects. I now know the impact on the body of what, how, and when we eat and drink, and have seen the healthy longevity of those who do use nutritional, wholesome, properly prepar...ed food to stay healthy. The amazing body heals itself if given the opportunity. I work toward finding the underlying causes of the individuals' body discomfort/unwellness at cellular level, and clarify what nutrients will support the body to regain balance and change to a healthier, pain free life. This is not without recognising the non nutritional factors that affect wellness like stress, emotion and the environment. I work with people to identify the areas of their body that need the greatest support at any particular time, and provide the nutritional information and guidance that will make a difference for their body. I support people through that journey with written guidelines like researched information, recipes, and ongoing bio-individual analysis, and where to find the nutrients their body needs. "

17.01.2022 Kombucha is a fermented tea that has been consumed for thousands of years. And it's also rich in beneficial probiotics that support the gut microbiome. Kombucha also contains antioxidants, can kill harmful bacteria and may help fight several diseases.

17.01.2022 Lovely way to start the day listening to the birds and koala at Lyndoch on the way to Berri to run a workshop tomorrow at Riverland Health Foods on the effects of gut health on mental health. Of course must stop off for lunch at Maggie beer's eatery and farm shop and try first hand her wonderful array of farm fresh produce.

12.01.2022 Macronutrients Lets Not Forget Water The Macronutrients workshop I ran on the weekend in Berri was fabulous. I had the opportunity to share information about the dangers of dehydration and the importance of drinking good water. The participants were surprised by the negative impact that insufficient has on their bio individual makeup. People identified with the chronic, long-term impact of this really common problem. Remember to replace every cup of caffeinated drink (coffee, soft drink, black tea) with one and a half cups of water to rehydrate you.

10.01.2022 "Pesticides are designed to kill insects, plants and mould or mildew. Many have been shown to be harmful to people at high doses, yet they are applied directly to food we eat, and residues are found on 70% of conventionally grown fruits and vegetables", Sonya Lunder (Environmental Working Group USA senior analyst) told Huffington Post Australia. For those worried about or wary of the toxic pesticides, herbicides and fungicides that are sprayed on the conventionally grown food...s available to us in the majority of food outlets, here are the 12 most pesticide sprayed foods according to the Environmental Working Group. The World Health Organisation says that pesticides are potentially toxic to humans and may induce adverse health effects including cancer, fertility, immunity, or the nervous system. Evidence also identifies high exposure to pesticides in early childhood have been linked to childhood cancers, decreased cognitive function, and behavioural problems. Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FZANZ) states Australia has the "maximum residue limits for agricultural chemicals, and have a safety factor built in. Different countries use different agricultural chemicals" (FZANZ spokesperson Lorraine Haase), but I note that toxic pesticides are still used. 'The Dirty Dozen' - released this year - 2018 by EWG Strawberries Cherries Spinach Pears Nectarines Tomatoes Apples Celery Grapes Potatoes Peaches Capsicum Strawberries, peppers and potatoes are currently ranked the worst offenders (2018). What Can You Do? If you can not source organic produce, soak your fruits and veggies in 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water for 5 minutes (note, this will not help with systemic pesticides that are inside the produce, only the residue on the conventionally grown outside). Or you can buy an all natural fruit and vegetable spray.
