25.01.2022 Do you know your numbers? As a small business owner with a website representing your brand online, it's imperative that you know what is happening on your website. It never ceases to amaze us how how many people don't know the stats on their website like how many visitors who visited a product page, visited the checkout page. Or how many people came from Twitter or Facebook before visiting your site. This is all valuable information that you can use to tweak your site to maximise sales. So if you don't have analytics setup on your website now it's time to get to it!

24.01.2022 No matter your industry, every small business should be online these days. 24.01.2022 Ever felt like the Social Media world has become a jungle? Often our clients ask "why use Facebook as their primary Social Media platform for business?". The answer can be complex, but we've put together this graphic to give you a general overview why Facebook rocks for business.

22.01.2022 Most people have heard the term 'continuous improvement' but surprisingly few small business people understand why it's important, or apply it to help increase sales in their business. Peter Drucker once said that business is only truly two things: innovation and marketing. The premise is that if your product/service genuinely adds value, but it's not selling, then your marketing sucks. If you believe your marketing is as effective as possible, then your product needs to e...volve to meet the changing needs of the market. Today is not like yesterday, and tomorrow will never be the same again. Think on this a while, in the context of the changing market, and you will begin to understand the need for 'continuous improvement' or... innovation. Developing an online presence is one of those strategies that absolutely must be part of your continuous improvement program. One of the quickest ways to test a market and adjust your strategy to continue to innovate and grow sales in today's marketplace, is to utilise social media marketing, such as Facebook marketing. If done properly, it can have awesome results. Comment below with your experience with Facebook marketing. See more

21.01.2022 A ship is safest in the harbour, but that's not what ships are for. They are meant to be put to sea. To do so safely though, the captain will require the advice of someone who can help navigate through uncharted waters and stormy seas. Businesses are the same. They should not stand still, but always be moving forward. It makes sense then that business owners also require a skilled navigator to assist them with their journey. An independent, trusted advisor can bring many benefits to the table, and perhaps offers the most significant return of any investment you can make. What strategies do you have in place to avoid running aground?

20.01.2022 Are you continually expanding your knowledge? One of the traits most common amongst high performance business people is consistency in all they do. The other is reading. Whether it's online or offline, reading helps keep you up to date with what your industry is doing and what your competitors are doing. It also helps you understand how your target market is responding to current affairs. Perhaps more importantly, reading at least one article each day for motivation or self-improvement is like a shower for the brain. It will help you relax and improve your focus, making you more productive at work.

19.01.2022 It is said that entrepreneurs are the kind of people who will jump out of an aeroplane and build the parachute on the way down. This quite accurately describes the bizarre combination of excitement and overwhelming stress that many small business owners feel everyday; but be aware that unless you know HOW to build that parachute, the sudden stop at the end will cause you serious harm. It sounds so obvious to advise that you should create a business plan before you start in bu...siness, but despite this, only a very small number of business owners actually bother. A business plan should ideally be written and revised BEFORE you are faced with the excitement and stress of day-to-day operations, because unless you have a solid idea of what you need to achieve ahead of time, it will be almost impossible to think clearly about it when you are busy working in your business. At the very least, you should have defined your value proposition; what your cashflow requirements and limitations (budgets) are; who your target market is and how you will communicate with them; and what your strategic goals are, including your exit strategy. If youve already taken the leap and dont yet have a plan, then the sooner you get started the better. Even a one page sketch is better than nothing at all.

19.01.2022 Are you creating raving fans? If youre on a tight marketing budget, think about how you can trigger word-of-mouth interest. Having satisfied customers rave about how good your service is, or how much value you offer, is one of the most effective yet cheapest forms of advertising available. To use this fully to your advantage, establish what positive trait you would like your business to be known for, then brainstorm ways that you can consistently deliver this outcome. Once a plan is devised, communicate it broadly across the business. Test the results, and adjust the strategy as required.

19.01.2022 When setting up a marketing campaign on Facebook, you need to go in with a predetermined outcome in mind, just like any other marketing that you do in your business. Do you want more website visits? More Facebook likes? More fan engagement? Each of these metrics has its own value, so choose your main objective before you get started. The Facebook ad type you go with will depend on what youre trying to achieve. Facebooks new advertising scheme guides you to recommend ad formats based on your primary goal; but if you're not sure, get an expert in to help. Just like offline marketing, setting up a campaign for Social Media requires some strategic thinking in order to target the right audience, and make the best use of your marketing spend.

17.01.2022 Have you thought about optimising your social accounts for search? Most small business owners believe that SEO is the only way to get exposure on Google. While this was the case for many years, optimising your social profiles for keywords these days can be just as effective. Here's a great post from Social Media Examiner for you to learn more.

17.01.2022 Do you have a website for your small business? It's imperative these days that you do. And if you do have a website, do you know how it's performing? It never ceases to amaze us that people don't know the stats about their website. Answers to simple questions like how many people are visiting your site each day are vital to your digital strategy. Like all facets of your business, knowing the numbers will help you optimise your website by making changes where needed. When you know the numbers you are on the right path to making the most of your website's performance. Please comment below if you would like to know how to get the stats on your website.

16.01.2022 Dont like the results you're getting in your business? Old patterns dictate how things are done until such time as a decision is made to change, and action is taken to achieve that. It's amazing how often a business owner will tell us that they're dissatisfied with a particular element of their business, but when asked, they go on to admit they've done nothing to work towards a different outcome. Developing a set of strategic goals is important, so that you know where you're heading, and so that you can test and adjust your approach along the way to ensure the best possible outcomes... regardless of whether that's increased profits, greater control and influence, or simply more free time.

14.01.2022 Everyones on Facebook these days right? Your friends, family, business partners, employees, customers, leads and like I said everyone really! And because of this, Facebook offers the biggest platform to market your business to. Have you heard the stories how people are making money from Facebook and yet you cant seem to make it work? Maybe youve boosted a post or placed an ad and no one has taken any notice. This is because theres a wrong way and a right way to market on Facebook and in this article Im going to share with you how to avoid the mistakes most brands are making and how you can make Facebook work for your business in 2016. http://optimiseyourbusiness.com.au/how-to-avoid-common-mis/

14.01.2022 As a small business owner it can get very overwhelming to keep track of everything that's going on in your business on a day to day basis. The last thing you want to happen is forget to follow up a potential customer because you loose track of who has and hasn't been contacted. Maybe you've got multiple spreadsheets for different departments that don't "talk" to each other. This can be a recipe for disaster with efficiency and organisation not being adequately addressed to st...ay on top of things and provide your customers with the premium service they deserve. For your small business to succeed you must have systems in place that integrate across your organisation - everything from accounting through to customer support. The good news is there are a magnitude of online solutions available today to manage the various aspects of your business for you. Please comment below if you business is in need of systemisation!

14.01.2022 Want to increase your productivity? If you work on your own, or with limited support, staying focused can be challenging at times. As a small business owner there is rarely anybody else holding you accountable for things that need to be done from week to week. You can still create accountability. Find a yourself a business buddy, maybe a friend who is also in business, and schedule a weekly coffee meeting where you can report back what tasks you have completed, and what tasks you need to complete in the coming week. The most effective way, of course, is to engage an experienced business advisor or coach who can not only hold you accountable, but make sure those weekly tasks contribute to your strategic goals in a meaningful way.

14.01.2022 It's 2015 and we should all know that if your small business is not on Facebook, you're not in business. Facebook has grown into the biggest social media platform in the world and no matter your industry you need to be on here as your brand. Over the years there have been countless changes to Facebook's rules and marketing tactics have come and gone. What is still here and very much the core to brand survival and dominance is your brand's ability to be social and talk with ...people...not to sell to people. We hear stories all the time about small business owners saying that Facebook doesn't work and when we explore the concerns with them, the explanation is always the same - they are not being social and are still trying to sell to people on Facebook. To be successful on Facebook in 2015 and beyond you must give up the selling! Please comment below if you would like advice in this area...

13.01.2022 Have you thought of expanding your business by going online? Maybe that's a silly question to ask these days as I'm sure you're well aware that you can service more people by extending your business' offerings online. But how do you do it? If you're a service based business, one of the best ways to serve more people without impacting on your time is to create an online membership portal for your customers to log into at their convenience. And of course you can charge them ...for this privilege. This model can be applied to any professional service based business ranging from accountants to doctors and everyone in between. So think of what you could offer your customers that could be delivered in video, audio and written format that would provide extreme value with respect to what your customers want. This will lay the foundation for your first online membership course that extends your existing business. Please comment below if you would like to know more...

11.01.2022 Save a ton of money marketing your small business by grabbing the attention of the public with high energy, 'left field' strategies. This is called Guerrilla marketing and is a strategy designed for small business to promote products or services in an unconventional way when there is very little budget to spend. One of the ways that OYB Co-Founder Marc Newman promoted a successful business of his, was to have a self-inking stamp made with his core (single line) message on i...t, and a call to action. He stamped this on several packs of sticky notes, and left these in bars, in windows, on train station information boards, in cafes, etc. Anywhere that people generally focus their attention to get information throughout their day. To test the response, a discount was offered via the call to action ("Call # now for a 15% discount"). How have you promoted a business with little or no money up front? Let us know what's worked for you by commenting below... See more

11.01.2022 Success doesnt usually come easy, but as we make mistakes, smart business people learn and grow. Now we'd like to share some of what weve learnt from our mistakes over the past 25 years, to help your business grow. http://optimiseyourbusiness.com.au/top-3-marketing-tips-fo/

08.01.2022 If you want your business to grow, people need to know that you exist, and be aware of your value proposition. Small business owners have a bad habit of keeping their business a secret. Its always amazing when you go to a BBQ or some other social event, that of all the people in attendance, the small business owner is often the most reluctant to talk about what they do for a job. You need to let people know what you do, and how your product or service can help them. People... talk to other people, so networking is vital. Networking is a critical element to brand development and building public awareness, but its also a great way to generate warm leads through referrals. Sometimes its not clear to business owners though that its not just about the individual that you first network with; its about their contacts as well. If you make one new business contact per month, and they have a network of their own of say, one hundred people, you dont just have that one new contact, but potentially one hundred new contacts as you develop that relationship more fully. As long as network development is mutually beneficial, the outcome is definitely worth the effort.

08.01.2022 Facebook are continuously rolling out changes to their advertising platform and today they announced the new slideshow ad. While we haven't tested the effectiveness of this ad type yet, it looks to be another great way to communicate with your target audience. Every small business owner who markets on Facebook - which should be everyone, may find a good use for this latest ad type. Let us know what you think of slideshow ads in the comments below...

07.01.2022 Want more new customers visiting your business? Defeat obscurity. GET ATTENTION!!! It's that simple. If people don't know you exist, they will never visit your place of business. The world is a noisy place. Every business is screaming for attention in their market place. If a competitor is getting more attention than you, they are doing something more effectively than you. Don't moan about it....analyse it, and leverage what you discover for the benefit of your business.

05.01.2022 Small business owners should always be looking out for new ways to communicate with their customers. Facebook this week rolled out another tool to do just that. Your customers and leads can now contact you on your website through Facebook messenger! This means that they can start a conversation with your business on your website and then continue it in the Facebook Messenger system. This is an awesome feature to enhance customer experience and you can read all about it here... https://developers.facebook.com//02/page-plugin-enhanceme/

05.01.2022 Heard of Google My Business? It's a free service from Google that every small business should get onto. It enhances how your business looks in the Google listings creating a more professional look for your business. Click on the link to sign up straight away - it's free! https://www.google.com/business/

05.01.2022 Do you struggle to get others to do things the way you want them to in your business? Often small business owners will tell us how frustrated they are when they can't get their staff to do things a particular way. Beating your staff won't help...in fact..it's illegal. Help others work with you (rather than against you) by creating an instruction manual on how things work best. Then educate your staff on the content. This is more commonly known as a set of Policies and Procedures. Introducing a templated draft set can speed up development and implementation, as it can bring a framework based on best practice that you can then make your own. Want to really engage your staff? Use video training to get the message across.

04.01.2022 It has been said that cashflow is like air....your business will die very quickly if cash isn't regularly available to circulate in your business. You can survive for periods of time without profit, but cashflow is vital. The problem is the lag between the time you have to pay your suppliers and staff, and the time you collect from your customers. The solution is cash flow management. Simply put, cash flow management means delaying outgoing payments as long as possible, while... encouraging inbound payments to occur as quickly as possible. This can be easier to monitor by using a spreadsheet to record what comes in and what goes out, and when. Project that forward into the future, and you have an indication of what expenses are coming up due, and how much you need to bring in to cover them. Work your sales plan to always bring in more than you need. When that works the spare cash becomes profit, when it doesn't you might still break even. Whatever you do, don't just leave it to chance. Managing your business effectively means knowing your numbers! See more

04.01.2022 Are you limiting your own success in business through lack of self-belief? Part of our work at Optimise Your Business is to help the Small Business owner regain a sense of control. To feel empowered and excited once more....like you did at the start. You remember... when you had that great idea to go into business, and were so motivated to get started that nothing could stop you? As we become immersed in the day-to-day management of a business, we can begin to doubt ourse...lves. If you feel that maybe you've bitten off more than you can chew, you're not alone. This is commonly known as 'Imposter Syndrome' and the higher you set your standards, the more likely you will encounter it at some stage. By creating and executing the right strategies, you can quickly regain confidence and control in your business. This alone will provide greater time freedom, and inspire those around you to step up also. See more

03.01.2022 Facebook is an awesome business tool to help engage your target audience in a meaningful way, to help them better understand who you are, and what your business does best. Buyer beware though... if you're engaging someone to help with your Facebook marketing, know that there are a lot of people who claim to be able to do great things to help your business grow, but can't actually produce the results. If they're not willing to back up their offer with a guarantee, then we'd ...suggest that they're not quite the 'marketing expert' that they claim to be. Don't be scared to ask what results they are getting in their own business. If they can't generate leads in their own business using Facebook marketing, then it is unlikely that they can help you do the same. How do you know? One way is to have them explain their intended strategy. We arrange a virtual or face-to-face meeting with our new clients, to establish exactly what they need, and to explain the strategy we intend to put in place. Of course, we do this free of charge. 01.01.2022 Facebook is no different to any other social media platform it’s here for everyone to be social. 01.01.2022 How do you capture lead details online? Landing pages are perfect for this and are essential for all small businesses that market online. A landing page is simply a website page that acts as an entry point for visitors to "land" on with one purpose - to capture lead details. Landing pages should not be cluttered or confusing, rather they should be clean and to the point with no distractions that might be found elsewhere on your website such as offers to other services.... When you have a landing page or two and send website traffic directly to them, you greatly increase the chance of capturing lead details on autopilot.
