As the eye is curved, it bends light, which creates an inverted image on the retina. During the early stages of infancy, our brains learn to 'flip' the data passing through our eyes and turn it the right way up! Before this happens, though, babies do see the world completely upside-down!... In the 1890's, a psychologist by the name of George Stratton wanted to investigate our brain's ability to 'normalise' the data our eyes capture. He conducted an experiment in which he wore a set of glasses that flipped his vision upside-down for eight days. For the first four days, his vision remained inverted, but by the fifth, it had turned right-side up, as his brain had adapted to the new information! Pretty amazing right?
