21.01.2022 These happy knitted gnomes went to their new homes yesterday - great work, class 2!
18.01.2022 At Orana, as in many Steiner schools, Primary School education concludes at the end of Year 7. Here at Orana, this occasion is marked by the beautiful Bridge Crossing Ceremony, in which the students bid farewell to their Primary School teacher of seven years and cross the bridge (both symbolically and literally) into High School. Yesterday we celebrated the Bridge Crossings of classes 7JL and 7DF. Tears were shed, gifts were exchanged and this beautiful poem was read. It is..., in essence, a 'love song' to Steiner Education, written for teacher Dan Flannery and presented on the final day with his class of seven years. With love and thanks to Dan and Jacinta, from the students and parents of 7DF & 7JL. The Gift Twenty-five hundred days ago, You came into our lives, To give our children a gift. You unpacked it slowly like a puzzle box; A combination here; a lock there And our children’s precious gift Unfolded before our very eyes. Sometimes, we couldn’t see the gift In all the noise of life Was it mad maths skills or artistic flair? Debating prowess or coloured hair? But now we see, it was there along, And all is understood. You gave a gift beyond compare. The gift of childhood.
08.01.2022 Some great achievements to round off the year! This year, Year 5 student Liam Sutherland participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) Junior Division, which is for Years 7 & 8. Each year the AMC has over 15 million participants from over 30 countries. Huge congratulations to Liam, who achieved a High Distinction, which places him in the top 3% of participants in this category. Fantastic work, Liam!
04.01.2022 Deadline extended - get your entries in now!
02.01.2022 Why is handwork so important in Steiner schools? Read this great article for a deeper understanding of the relevance and importance of the 'practical arts". "Practical arts provide us with a unique experience: in making something from the simplest of natural raw materials, we develop a powerful sense of agency; we and the children implicitly transcend the mundane and step into a deeper relationship with the world around us.
