20.01.2022 We’ve been having a bit of fun over the last days coming up with some new models, and developed a 7.2m and 8.0m fast tender. We build them pretty much in every colour in polyethylene or polypropylene, for recreational or commercial purposes, and offer 5 years warranty on hull construction. The collar is made from EVA foam with a durable polyurea skin. So no risk of punctures when you go out fishing! Our boats are either manufactured in Thailand, Malaysia or in Australia depen...ding on your personal (budgetary) requirements, and can be delivered with ABP certificate or AMSA 2C for commercial applications. Interested? Give us a call!

16.01.2022 Wow what a lot of reactions on our last posts and some serious prospects as well, for HDPE workboats and landing craft. The seedling is planted now let’s nurture, fertilise and add some water...... thank you so much everyone this is really appreciated, seriously. And some other great news I like to share with the polyethylene enthusiasts. Our friends from DOEN waterjets in Melbourne have made great steps forward and developed an HDPE waterjet intake block. Isn’t that great? ...This will make welding of the jet intake in the hull structure so much easier. We are also making progress on our project in Africa, a great milestone for Orange Marine and our partner Rhino Marine in Cape Town if everything falls into place. We are really excited! We’ll keep you posted and please touch base if you are seriously looking for that special custom boat model.... we’re happy to make a tailored design, no worries!!!

13.01.2022 HDPE versus Aluminium - A Lasting Difference Australia has a long history of plate welded aluminium boat building, and a variety of great models were developed over the years. About 35+ years ago the aluminium boat building started up, at the time without having proper guidelines for the design, fabrication and welding processes. Over time international classification societies and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) developed tailored rules and regulations for hi...gh speed aluminium craft. High Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE) is a relatively new material for boatbuilding, on the market for about 10+ years. However it is used extensively for pressurised water and gas infrastructure pipework in Australia for decades, and specific safety standards, norms and regulations were implemented by Standards Australia, which are adopted and in use for HDPE boatbuilding as well. Aluminium fabrication and welding is unforgiving and requires specialist skills and extensive work experience. On the contrary HDPE can even be welded by semi-skilled tradespersons. Whilst aluminium hulls will deteriorate over time due to material fatigue and corrosion, HDPE is a very forgiving material with respect to the fabrication, welding and intensive (commercial) use. With 25+ years of experience with aluminium commercial shipbuilding we know very well that ally welds can only be repaired once, maximum two times. The heat of welding will diminish the strength of the plate material, and eventually a repaired weld seam needs to be "replaced" by inserting a new plate. This is common practice in aluminium ship repair, and an accepted standard for international classification and AMSA. HDPE plates and welds are not as sensitive to fatigue cracking, therefore will last longer than ally. And even if cracked, the weld can be repaired multiple times without impacting the strength of the plate material that much. And it can be done outdoors, similar like steel, whilst aluminium requires favourable (workshop) conditions for proper repair work (for ally a clean work area, limited draft and low moisture levels are highly recommended). By informing prospect clients about the advantages of HDPE regularly, this might entice you or your friends to consider having an HDPE boat designed and build one day by Orange Marine. We welcome your comments, questions and enquiries!

12.01.2022 HDPE versus Aluminium - UPDATE Having built a variety of aluminium vessels from 7m up to 70+m since 1993, regularly getting the question why are you now promoting High Density Poly Ethylene plate boats instead of aluminium? Well I love ally, but after seeing the "proof in the pudding" I fell completely in love with HDPE, and here's why:... - Easier to manufacture than ally - High chemical resistance, does not corrode or dissolve - No paint or anti-fouling is required, minimal marine growth - Very hard wearing & robust, proven to be (much) longer lasting - But if damaged, very easy to repair, even out in the bush - Vibration and shock absorbing providing a very comfortable ride at sea - Fully recyclable and has 5x lower carbon footprint than aluminium (!) So whats the snag? Well the best UV resistant colour in HDPE is black, other colours also retain their strength over time using UV stabilisers, but might discolour. When it is really hot (>40 gr C) you might see some distortion or warping. And yes, an HDPE hull is slightly heavier than an ally one. Limitations? At this point of time the largest HDPE boat "ever build" is about 24m. For the larger boats we offer "hybrid structures", with proprietary reinforcements strengthening and stiffening the structure, unknown to other builders. So, if you are curious to learn more, contact us. Outside the products we showcased recently, we can actually develop tailored solutions to meet your specific requirements!
