19.01.2022 The Gallery’s Extension Project has received overwhelming support from our community of artists. We’re looking forward to working with Euan Macleod on an exhibition in our New Contemporary Gallery in 2022. The support from public galleries in acknowledging and showing our work to a wider audience is of huge importance to artists. A good exhibition space is crucial to this and the proposed extension for Orange will make it one of the most impressive regional Galleries in the ...country. - Euan Macleod Visit our website to read more about the extension, view animations and donate to our fundraising campaign. 16.01.2022 RECENT ACQUISITIONS A recent donation of works by abstract painter Ildiko Kovacs is a welcome and signicant addition to Orange Regional Gallery’s Collection. Already represented in the Collection, the new additions cement and add to Kovacs’ visual oeuvre. ... The group of works, painted between 2017 2019, reflect Kovacs' distinctive large-scale roller loops of colour, as well as more intimate, incised geometric works such as ‘Cat’s Eye’ (pictured). We look forward to showing this substantial and cohesive grouping of Kovacs works regularly in our permanent collection exhibitions. ‘Cat’s Eye’ (detail), 2018 Oil and graphite on card on plywood, 90 x 64 cm Donated to Orange Regional Gallery through the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program by Ildiko Kovacs, 2020 Images courtesy of the Artist. 06.01.2022 ‘Visions of Country’ includes two recent acquisitions by Peter Boggs. ‘Underpass (Which way now)’ and ‘The road leads from here to where (Underpass) present new perspectives to the familiar, everyday urban landscape. As a tonal painter, Boggs’ selection of a subdued palette distils the subject into its geometric shapes, blurring reality and abstraction. It is in this state of in-between that Boggs’ sits comfortably, inviting the viewer into his encounter with streets or coun...tryside. ‘Visions of Country’ continues until 21 January 2021. 06.01.2022 Did you know that the Gallery’s beginnings go back to the mid-1960’s and the establishment of Orange Festival of Arts? The success of the festival (1965-1989) and its charter ‘to bring the best of the arts to the country led to passionate community support for permanent arts facilities in Orange. In preparation for the Gallery’s Extension Project we’ve been sorting through the archives and rediscovering the Gallery’s history. We’re looking forward to sharing some of these stories over coming months and welcome your contributions. Do you have a story about the Gallery or an image to share? Send us a message or leave a comment below. Image: A selection of Orange Festival of Arts souvenir programs with thanks to @centralwestlibraries
