25.01.2022 This week’s lunchtime activity is going to look a little different and possibly more challenging for many of you. This week’s challenge is to see who in our school community can record the highest number of keepie-uppies with a toilet roll. I’m asking for students and teachers to give this a go and email me a video of your attempts. All videos needs to be emailed to me by no later than 5.00pm Thursday 3rd September. Videos will be posted on Compass on Friday. Below I have included a video of one of our school captains, James Russell giving it his best go. Videos need to be emailed to: [email protected]

19.01.2022 Sealy's Weekly Update - Term 3 Week 7 Remote and Flexible Learning at OSC 2.0 27/8/20 G’day everyone and welcome to Week 7 of Term 3.... I want to start tonight by thanking all students, parents and staff for their efforts throughout what has been a pretty tricky year so far. Throughout the year, our purpose has remained on working together to create opportunities for every person to be their best although while in the remote and flexible learning period, this has looked a little different than before. As mentioned previously, our focus has been on four areas: i. Provide suitable work for all students. ii. Provide schedules to give structure for students and families every day. iii. Maintain connections between all members of our school community. iv. Be agile and adaptable in addressing the unique circumstances of our individual staff and students We know that we haven’t got everything perfect, but we’ve continually sought feedback and re-assessed what we are doing to try and improve. Thanks to all parents who have completed the feedback surveys from the link on Compass. If you haven’t had the opportunity to complete these surveys yet, they will be open until Sunday 30th August and details are on Compass. Throughout this current period of remote and flexible and learning we have tried to increase the amount of feedback that students and parents are receiving. Teachers have been holding Webex classes and sending emails to students weekly and today we also posted student Interim Reports on Compass. The feedback that has come in through the parent surveys already, is that parents would like to know more about whether their child is completing work. To address this feedback, from next Friday 4th September, we will be posting Weekly Reports on Compass to provide information directly to parents about their child’s submission of work and attendance in Webex classes. We understand that learning from home can be very challenging, and we want to make sure we are doing our best to keep everyone informed about what is happening. Please remember that we are able to provide on-site care and supervision, and IT and Wellbeing support for any student who requires it. We are also able to provide support online and over the phone so if things are not going as well as you’d like at home, please don’t hesitate to call us to talk about how we might be able to help. We’re looking forward to having all staff and students back on-site as soon as possible so please try to do everything you can to keep yourself and others safe. Take care. Sealy See more

17.01.2022 Dear students and parents, I’m sure that by now most of you have heard some of the information coming from the announcements made on Sunday by the Premier and Education Minister. From some responses I’ve seen on social media, and through conversations, it seems that there has been a little confusion. We have tried to condense the information so that we are clear about the timeline for Orbost Secondary College. - Remote and Flexible Learning will continue until the end of this... term (Friday 18th September) - Term Three holidays for two weeks - Remote and Flexible Learning will begin again on Monday 5th October Term 4 Week 1 (All students completing a Unit 3&4 VCE subject must attend on Wednesday 7th October to complete the GAT. Some VET/VCE/VCAL students may need to attend on-site for other ‘essential assessments’ and they will know in advance if required at school.) - On-site learning begins from Monday 12th October Term 4 Week 2 (Classes will begin ‘on-site’ at OSC for all Year Levels at 9am.) We hope that we will then be able to continue through until the end of the year with all classes being held on-site. We know that there will be more information about how schools will need to operate to help keep people safe. We will keep students, parents and staff updated as we learn more. Please contact the school if you have any questions or if there is anything you’re unsure of. Sealy

17.01.2022 Hi All, Due to the recent success of lunchtime activities, some students have been inspired to create their own. Mollie and Dusty are going to run an OSC Kahoot, which will be made up of facts about our students and staff. To organise this, they need your help! Please see compass for more information about how you can be involved!

10.01.2022 Remote and Flexible Learning Parent Survey (You will need to log into Compass with your parent account to access this survey) Dear Parents, At the end of the Term 2 Remote and Flexible Learning period we conducted a short survey that was completed by many parents. The feedback we obtained from that survey helped us to make changes for this period of Remote and Flexible Learning, such as increasing the amount of feedback to students and parents. On Compass a link to a survey ...so you can again provide feedback about how we are going and what we can do better. We would appreciate it greatly if you could take the time to fill out the survey by Sunday 30th August. As always, if you'd like to discuss anything further, please contact us at school. 09.01.2022 Remote and Flexible Learning 2.0 Information Update Dear students, parents and staff, This week I was lucky enough to sit in on a few Webex classes and see first-hand the amazing efforts of our teachers and students. Despite all that we’ve experienced this year, the focus is still firmly on learning. Well done everyone.... As I wrote in a Compass update last week, during this period of Remote and Flexible Learning we are providing feedback to students and parents on a regular basis. This is coming in the form of specific feedback about Learning Tasks being posted to students on Compass, weekly emails to students about participation in Webex classes and submission of work, and regular phone calls to parents. Next week teachers will be writing Interim Reports for students. These reports will be available for viewing on Compass from Thursday morning. As a result, teachers will not be sending feedback emails to students next week. On Wednesday, delivery and installation of our modular building began and you will see from the pictures attached, that it is now completely in place and ready for the ‘finishing touches’ to be applied. We are well and truly on track to have this building ready for action on the first day of Term Four. This period of Remote and Flexible Learning is flying past and we’re already 15 days in. Please make sure that you are doing all that you can to keep yourself and others safe and hopefully we’ll see you back on-site at OSC very soon. Sealy

05.01.2022 Peter Seal G’day everyone. Today I have the privilege of announcing the name of our new building and I’ve invited our KESO, Lynnette Solomon-Dent to help explain the significance of the name. Our current buildings are simply called Lower, Middle and Upper and we wanted a name for our new building that had local significance. Over the last few weeks we have consulted with local Aboriginal elders and grandparents of current students Christine Milliken and Susan Martin, about ap...propriate names. Lynnette was also involved in these discussions. We settled on putting the following three options to current students and staff (Dura, Croajingalong and Corringle) and letting them decide by voting Corringle was the clear winner. I’d like to ask Lynnette now to please outline for us the significance and importance of this name. Lynnette Solomon-Dent Wunman njinde. The Snowy River journeys about 352kms from the mountains to the sea and has many names. One of those is Corringle meaning many water reeds. Aboriginal people have a long connection to country and place. Corringle is one such place for many families who have fished and camped there for generations. Yarrabee Peter Seal Thanks Lynne. As you’ve just explained, the name Corringle ties neatly with our school values. Particularly Belonging. We’re looking forward to starting to use the Corringle Building with students, staff and parents on October 12th. We hope to see you then.

04.01.2022 Morning all, Due to the current power outage in Orbost and surrounds, we are unable to run Webex classes at the moment. AusNet are advising that the power will be back on around noon and I'm sure we're all hoping it might even be a little sooner than that. Once the power is restored and the internet is back up, we will resume Webex classes as scheduled. As always, please give us a call at the College if we can give you a helping hand in any way.

02.01.2022 Sealy's Week Term 3 Week 10 Update Remote and Flexible Learning at OSC 2.0 18/9/20 G’day everyone, thanks for joining us for our end of Term Three Assembly. Thanks to all staff for their willingness to accept the many challenges that we’ve faced this year. Your persistence and positivity has been inspirational. In particular, I’d like to thank you for your hard work in moving furniture and equipment around over the last few weeks while also continuing to teach classes online ...and provide care and supervision for students on-site. Thanks also to parents for the way that you have responded to the frequent changes to how we operate. Your flexibility and support is greatly appreciated. The feedback you have provided us has always been respectful and constructive, and has helped us to make regular improvements. Well done and congratulations to all of the students for your efforts this term and throughout the whole year. The resilience that you have shown has also been inspirational and we are really looking forward to seeing you all again back on-site to enjoy our new and improved facilities. Good luck to our Year 12 students as they begin the final term of your school careers. Over the coming weeks our VCAL students will be finalising assessments and then preparing to move into the world of work. Our VCE students will also be finalising assessments as well as preparing for the GAT. We are very keen to acknowledge and celebrate all that our Year 12s have achieved in their time at our school. At the moment, however, we are restricted by guidelines put in place by DET. We have begun planning for a celebration and will finalise our decisions through discussions with Year 12 students once they have completed the GAT on Wednesday 7th October. All students will be returning to on-site learning from Monday 12th October. This is a deliberate decision by DET to ensure that the GAT is protected and the possibility of disruption to due COVID infection is minimised. A lot of work has taken place, and continues to take place, to complete building works. We are excited to be able to share these new and improved facilities with all students and staff when they return on October 12th. Finally, I’d like to farewell Mandy Forrester and welcome her replacement, Dianne Barnes. Many people ‘coast’ into retirement, but this could certainly not be said of Mandy. She has done a power of work over her 20 plus years at OSC and has continued to be going flat out over the last couple of weeks to make sure that all our asbestos removal, demolition and new building works are completed before she leaves. Mandy will be greatly missed in our school, but we take comfort in knowing that she is only a phone call away, and is being replaced by the very capable Di Barnes. Welcome Di and thanks and good luck, Mandy. Please take care everyone and we’ll see you here on October 12th. Sealy See more

01.01.2022 Dear students, parents and staff, We are looking forward to having all students and staff return to on-site learning on Monday 12th October. It has been a long time since we've had all students at school and a lot has happened in that time. To help students prepare for a smooth and successful transition back to on-site learning, Psychologist Lauren Short, has prepared the attached document. As always, please contact us immediately if you have any questions. Peter Seal
