18.01.2022 CHRISTMAS HAMPERS TO HELP - Supporting Bushfire affected communities Following the devastating Australia #bushfires that rocked the world at the beginning of the year, the #OrderofMalta has been supporting impacted communities with not only an initial emergency response but longer-term recovery. Mogo, a small goldrush town in NSW with a population of about 300, has in recent years attracted tourists for its arts and crafts stories and heritage buildings. During the bushfires... last summer not only homes but business premises were damaged or destroyed and #Covid19 has further hindered the rehabilitation efforts with many small businesses struggling following restrictions that have limited visitors. The Order of Malta has partnered with local suppliers and created a Christmas Hamper to support businesses in bushfire impacted communities. Mogo Christmas Hampers cost $69.95 including postage* and are available from our online store. https://www.orderofmalta.org.au/hampers-to-help-supporting/

11.01.2022 I am at the service of the Order, to renew certain parts of the internal structure, as well as certain parts of its social and humanitarian service. The Order is doing a lot of good, but as with every institution with its roots in past centuries, it needs continuous reform. Card. Silvano Tomasi, Pontifical Delegate to the #OrderofMalta

10.01.2022 At the invitation of the Parish Priest of #Southport Parish, Magistral Chaplain Fr. Gerard McMorrow, Members, candidates, family and friends of the #OrderofMalta North Eastern Region joined the Parish’s Vigil Mass on 17th October. This was the first opportunity since the easing of Covid-19 restrictions for our region to come together. Fr Gerard spoke to the Gospel reading about giving unto Caesar. He placed a strong emphasis of the sin of hypocrisy demonstrated by the Scribe...s and Pharisees and how we as individuals and organisations must be always diligent in what we stand for and demonstrate. National President, James Douglas gave the congregation a concise explanation of the lay nature of our Order and some of the history that explains our full name and all its references to places of residence. Mass was followed by a meal with 12 members, 5 candidates, family, friends and parishioners in attendance. Following dinner Fr Gerard gave a brief outline of the needs in Southport regarding people who are disadvantaged and how the Order can make a meaningful contribution to their care. Special mention is made of the attendance of our candidates Alice and Andrew Druzynski and their young family who made the trip up from Lennox Heads in NSW now permissible due to the Covid-19 Bubble being extended to cover Northern NSW by the Queensland Government. They took the opportunity the following day to meet with their Spiritual Companion for their Year of Preparation, Padre Morgan Batt, Magistral Chaplain and Parish Priest of Mother of Mercy Parish, Burleigh Heads. #ServingPeopleInNeed #DefendingFaith #OMVAustralia
