24.01.2022 Government announced an extension of the JobKeeper program to 28 March 2021 but with tighter access and reduced rates. From 28 September 2020, employers seeking to claim JobKeeper payments will need to reassess their eligibility and prove an actual decline in turnover. If your business currently receives JobKeeper, your arrangements will generally remain unchanged until 27 September 2020. 21.01.2022 Fun Fact: In the 2020 financial year there are actually 27 fortnightly pay periods and 53 weekly pay periods. This is one more pay period than usual. How does this affect you? The calculations for pay as you go withholding tax which is taken from your wages and salaries are calculated on the basis of a 52 week and 26 fortnight year. This means that your employer may withhold insufficient tax for the 2020 financial year, leaving you with tax payable when it comes time to submi...t your tax return. You may wish to try mitigate this. You can do this by asking your employer if they can withhold some extra tax for you during the financial year. Besides, if you overpay your tax you will have it refunded at the end of the year anyway!

16.01.2022 ORegan & Partners is proud to support and attend the biennial Winton Outback Festival held last week in Winton - the home of Waltzing Matilda. Several of our staff competed in the events and had a blast, with our very own Andy Freeman taking part in the Ironman series and placing 7th in the 100km Outback Cycle Challenge, an event which ORegan & Partners proudly sponsors. Our dunny also made a showing once more in the famous Dunny Derby!... The Winton Outback Festival is a great family friendly event for all ages - we cannot recommend it highly enough for anyone considering a visit to Western Queensland!

13.01.2022 The final September 30th deadline for small business Single Touch Payroll (STP) registration is fast approaching, and many businesses are still not registered. In case you missed it, STP is a new way for employers to report their employees Salaries and Wages, Pay As You Go withholding tax and superannuation directly to the Australian Taxation Office each time you pay your employees. If you have between 1 and 4 employees, you may be eligible for a concession to report through your registered tax or BAS agent until 2021, but this must be arranged by September 30th. 09.01.2022 Last night the federal treasurer proposed that taxation rates are to be reduced and backdated to 1st July 2020. Low and middle income earners, this year, will receive tax relief of up to $2,745 for singles and up to $5,490 for dual income families as compared with 2017/18. This will be achieved through bringing forward stage two of the government’s legislated tax cuts by 2 years: The 19% threshold will be increased from $37,000 to $45,000, and... The 32.5% threshold will be increased from $90,000 to $120,000. Please note that the House of Representatives and the Senate must approve this before it becomes law.

07.01.2022 Look at that its nearly the end of the year, with Christmas just around the corner. To celebrate our progress and hard work throughout the year, our Brisbane office had a great Christmas lunch, filled with lots of laughter and memories. We did a Secret Santa gift exchange, and I must say everyone was impressed with their gifts. Who knew accountants could be so creative? To top it all off, we had brownies delivered from Hooray!
