20.01.2022 Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been a little quiet this week... While out flying on Tuesday afternoon, a wild eagle came out of nowhere and grabbed me! ...The amazing staff at Currumbin Wildlife Hospital were happy to wait after hours for Mark and I to arrive. After a thorough examination, a puncture wound was found under my left wing. I have received the absolute best medical care, and have visited the lovely vets and nurses there three times so far. I can’t thank them enough! I have to take it easy for a couple of weeks, so you won’t be seeing any flight footage for a little while. I’ll just be chilling out in my quarters and getting plenty of cuddles from Mark. #Desthewedgetailedeagle #wedgetailedeagle #eagles #oreillysrainforestretreat #goldcoast #scenicrim #visitqueensland #destinationqueensland #visitscenicrim #australianraptors #australianbirdsofprey #canungravalleyvineyards #currumbinwildlifehospital
19.01.2022 Thanks for sharing Andrea
19.01.2022 Many of you have seen our show presented by Nick Muscat. Here he is with Des the Wedge-tailed Eagle on a property near Canungra. Taking our birds to different locations gives us the chance to learn more of their individuality. I’ve no doubt it works both ways! ~ Mark
18.01.2022 Roy, our handsome Brown Falcon, was out hunting grasshoppers this afternoon. He didn’t catch any! To be fair, he was distracted by a Wedge-tailed Eagle circling overhead.
18.01.2022 School holidays are over, and what a great two weeks it has been! Many families came to see the show and the weather was perfect. Thanks for sharing this great pic of Mark and Star the Barn Owl, Penny.
18.01.2022 Some nice pictures shared from a recent visitor to the show. We love receiving your photos
18.01.2022 Behind the scenes! Not show related but it is behind the bird show enclosures. A male satin bower bird displaying at his bower. The bird standing in the bower is, I believe, a juvenile male. The owner of the bower uses his bower to lure and court females. If successful, she will build a nest nearby. ~Mark
17.01.2022 Anyone who has visited the show recently will likely have met Wanda, our juvenile White-bellied Sea Eagle. After today’s show I took her out for an adventure!
16.01.2022 Some lovely pics of our new female Wedge-tailed Eagle, Opal, enjoying the sunshine at the show today. : Amanda Lee Robertson
15.01.2022 Something new and a giggle too... Some of you may have met Wanda, our juvenile White-bellied Sea Eagle, when she was in training. Wanda is now a regular part of our daily shows and is getting used to having an audience. Apparently this is how I look most days. ... ~ Mark
14.01.2022 Here's little Abbey the Kestrel enjoying some lunch during the show yesterday. : Julie Lee
13.01.2022 Thank you for sharing these lovely photos of the birds Julie
11.01.2022 Today was the last of all the medications. Tomorrow my perches will placed back to their original heights. A few more days of rest, then some light exercises! ... #Desthewedgetailedeagle #wedgetailedeagle #eagles #oreillysrainforestretreat #goldcoast #scenicrim #visitqueensland #destinationqueensland #visitscenicrim #australianraptors #australianbirdsofprey #canungravalleyvineyards

07.01.2022 Some exciting behind the scenes news! Our pair of Black-breasted Buzzards, Gilbert & Beryl, are in overdrive with nesting! Some of you may remember that last year they had a chick, but unfortunately were unsuccessful rearing it. This year we removed the eggs for artificial incubation, hoping that they would produce another clutch which we would leave with them.... It didn’t turn out as planned. Beryl popped out a third egg for this clutch! Three eggs for this species is rare. We’ll leave it with her and see what happens
07.01.2022 We have a new addition to the team! Meet Opal, a young Wedge-tailed Eagle. She was raised with tender loving care on Kangaroo Island, after being found orphaned in Coober Pedy. Here she is with James at O’Reilly’s guest house reception. So far it looks like she’ll fit in with mountain life just fine.
06.01.2022 Behind the scenes... Gilbert and Beryl our breeding pair of Black-breasted Buzzards are at it again! Last year was the first time they hatched a chick. Unfortunately it only lived a few days, but it was their first experience at being parents. Fingers crossed they are more successful this year. Looking great so far, as that is the best nest yet!!... See more
06.01.2022 Behind the scenes update.... Our pair of Black- breasted Buzzards have certainly been productive. Beryl has laid a fourth egg in this clutch! This is unusual. Clutch size is usually two eggs, less often one rarely three. (Stephen Debus, 2012)
06.01.2022 Some of you have met Wanda our juvenile White-bellied Sea Eagle. Matt of Matt Fisher Media had only 15/20 minutes to capture this incredible footage due to an approaching storm and other commitments and look what was created! Filmed on a location just North of Canungra. Wanda will be flying free in our shows on the mountain once our order of GPS tracking arrives. ~Mark
05.01.2022 Wanda our juvenile White-bellied Sea Eagle taking in the morning sun!
03.01.2022 Des says thank you all for your well wishes
