19.01.2022 When did we stop supporting each other? We participate in a dangerous sport. Every time we put a foot in the stirrup we risk our lives...because we want to, be...cause we love too. So tell me why we arent giving each other a hand up, supporting each other, wishing them well as they head out on a cross country round or into that showjumping arena? Why are we becoming so quick to judge, critique and attack individuals when actually, most of the time, they are just trying their damn best? Everyone is chasing their own dreams, at their own pace and you never know the battles someone is facing...so be kind, always be kind. So support small businesses, support your local freelancers, say thank you to volunteers at events, wish the rider after you good luck, offer to hold a horse, dont bitch, dont stir and dont judge. Run your own race and if you dont win, congratulate the winner. Just be a nice human Imagine the sport we could have if we just looked out for one another a little more.

17.01.2022 I often ask owners to continue with carrot stretches with their horses after treatment... and occasionally ask dog owners to do the same! :-) The image below s...hows some good stretches, these stretches are great to help to horse become supple. Just remember only to ask your horse to stretch after work or after being in the field, this helps to ensure the muscles are warm and elastic..... Noticing a difference between stretches to the left compared to the right? (or vice versa!) Unevenness can be addressed with treatment, book a session to help balance your horse! See more

17.01.2022 Dont have a lot of equipment at home? Or a helper to be constantly moving things so you can do different exercises? This super easy setup provides 7 great gymn...astic exercises using just 4 poles! These exercises can help both horse and rider with their rhythm and balance, and improve suppleness, flexibility, and the accuracy of your lines. You can do these exercises in the walk or trot, and some even in canter. As you get more confident you can use small cavalettis instead of some (or even all, for the very advanced!) of the poles. The possibilities are endless For regular posts like these, as well as articles about nutrition, exercise, and more, follow our page! 02.01.2022 Being called out to a couple of colic cases lately and having one myself this morning, I thought this might help those new in the horse world, or those that ha...ve not had a colic case. Does my horse have colic? Things I look for and how I start to seek answers If you ever suspect your horse is not well always call a vet, with colic time is of the essence, but here is a couple of things you can tell your vet when you call him 1. Horse is tucked up 2. Is there gut sound (place your ear right at the back of its gut, and listen for sound, I suggest doing this to your horse when its well so you are familiar on the sound, you want to hear gargles, and a healthy gut is noisy) 3. Rapid pulse,(if you dont know how to take a pulse, look for rapid breathing at the nostril(is your horse puffing like its been running) 4. Temp, horses temp is usually around 37.2 - 38. Use a digital thermometer, oil it or spit on it and insert into horses butt, anything over the above temps starts to become dangerous, if a horse gets up and over 40, this can easily result in death. A horses temp can rise very quickly with colic. 5. Has your horse had a recent poo, have a look in the paddock while waiting for vet, a poo can speak a thousand words 6. Keep your horse warm, throw a rug over it 7. Dont let it roll, if it just wants to stand let it 8. Dont rush off to the bottle o to get beer Colic will kill and can easily result in a twisted or ruptured bowl. Its excruciating for them and if not treated correctly and quickly, results in a very painful death Sometimes we dont know why they get colic, but preventions can be regular worming, teeth and clean feed. And remember to always pay your vet, so if ever you need them again, they will return.

01.01.2022 Back Protector Update: Grace Period Safety of our EA member riders is paramount and recent rule changes to support this are in line with international best prac...tice, in particular, British Eventing and (shortly to be introduced) Equestrian Sport New Zealand. We recognise the confusion over back protector standards and the relatively short lead-in time may cause difficulties for some members in complying. Whilst continuing to recommend that a complying back protector is purchased asap, EA has introduced the following measures: > A grace period of six months for back protectors only (helmet rules are still effective July 1 2019) will mean that the rule will become effective Jan 1 2020. EA is working with a number of retailers to offer special discounts for EA members who are purchasing new back protectors; we will publish details of these as they become available.
