01.01.2022 Farming in the NT is hard at the best of times, even more so when farming organically! Here is an update from Ash our farm forewoman to let you know what’s happening on the farm. People might be curious why we choose not to farm during the wet. As an organic farm we try to work with nature to grow produce, but the build up brings challenges. The pressure of pest, diseases and weeds increases dramatically. ... As nature accelerates our energy levels and spirts decelerate. Crops we have spent days planting, irrigating and caring for can be lost in hours, it’s hard to watch. It takes five times as much effort in the heat to face twenty times the challenges, that we cannot throw a chemical at. The time spent to harvest and process crops begins to outweigh the prices we can charge for the produce. This time of the year nature trumps us, but we do what we can. Here are some photos to show you how critters and weeds are swallowing our crops.
