23.01.2022 Paddocks will still burn, even on a cool (ish) March night at 10.30pm. A call out to Orielton Road last night, fanned by wind, meant this fire was headed directly towards homes and serves as a reminder to reconsider driving vehicles in dry grass paddocks - day or night. Discarding cigarette butts into grass can also cause the same consequences. Thank you to residents who went into action with water, extuinguishers and rakes and assisted with firefighting efforts.

22.01.2022 48 hour TOTAL FIRE BAN From 2am Thursday 30 January 'til 2am Saturday 1 February, 2020. Tasmanians need to be prepared for challenging fire weather conditions towards the end of this week as hot temperatures, north-westerly winds and low humidity is expected to push the fire danger to severe in parts of the state.... The forecast has triggered a total fire ban to be declared for 48 hours from 2am Thursday 30 January until 2am Saturday 1 February for all municipalities in the south, and Northern Midlands and Break O'Day in the north. "As far as the fire danger goes, there is potential for Thursday and Friday to be challenging across large parts of the state. Fire danger ratings ranging from very high to severe are expected to be widespread across the Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley, East Coast and South East," said Acting Regional Chief Dale Rayner. "It's crucial that people adhere to the total fire ban and also act responsibly in the lead up to Thursday by not lighting fires. Fires that start under these conditions will be very difficult for firefighters to control. "Even though much of the State has had some rainfall recently, this has not been enough to improve the conditions, and the fuels are still very dry and will burn easily," Mr Rayner said. A total fire ban means no fires can be lit in the open including campfires, fire pots, incinerators, burn offs and solid fuelled BBQs. The declaration applies to the following municipalities: South Brighton, Central Highlands, Clarence, Derwent Valley, Glamorgan-Spring Bay, Glenorchy, Hobart, Huon Valley, Kingborough, Sorell, Southern Midlands and Tasman. North Break O'Day and Northern Midlands. Other information: Be aware of your surroundings and report any smoke or fire sightings to TFS immediately via Triple Zero. If a fire starts in your area listen to ABC Local Radio or visit www.fire.tas.gov.au for the latest bushfire information. If you have a bushfire survival plan review it now and know what you will do and where you will go if a bushfire starts in your area.

06.01.2022 Total Fire Ban From 2am Monday 25th January until 2am Tuesday 26th January, a Total Fire Ban has been declared in the below listed municipalities. Please extinguish any recent fires today.

04.01.2022 Last night we held a medal presentation at the station. - Our 3rd Officer David Lucas was awarded his 20 year long service award for his dedicated service to the Orielton Brigade and his community. Dave has travelled to many area's of Tasmania for firefighting purposes in his volunteer role. - Our 2nd Officer Nathan Jennings was awarded a National Medal. The National Medal recognises long and diligent service by members of recognised government and voluntary organisations tha...t risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community in enforcement of the law or in times of emergency or natural disaster. - Our Brigade Chief Todd Birch was awarded his 30 year long service award and the National Emergency Medal for his service during the 2009 Victorian Bushfires. The National Emergency Medal was first issued in 2012. It is awarded to persons who rendered sustained service during specified dates in specified places in response to nationally-significant emergencies within Australia; or to other persons who rendered significant service in response to such emergencies. Amazingly, these 3 volunteers alone have 73 years of volunteering service to our fire brigade between them (Todd 30 years, Nathan 23 years, Dave 20 years). They all started as junior's within our station and we are pleased to say our junior program has continously operated and trained junior members since our station moved from Station Lane, Sorell in 1990. We wish to thank Mark Klop (District Officer, East Coast) and Wayne Smart (Field Works Officer, East Coast) for attending and presenting the medals. Also thanks must go to one of our member's, Jason, for his donation of food and nibbles to keep tummies full and happy during the night.

02.01.2022 Well done to our members completing training over the last weeks, Stewart and Luke for their level 1 fire fighting, Liam ,Jason and Shannon for their structure mobile property and up coming bushfire fighting and our breathing apparatus operators who completed their refreshers recently. The training required to be an active fire fighter is rigorous and non stop, it starts as a junior( 10 year old) and doesn't end until you take a step back however far down the track that is.

02.01.2022 To all our Fire Fighter Mums and Mums of Fire Fighters have an awesome Mothers day hope you get pampered like you deserve.

02.01.2022 To anyone in the Orielton area that would like to be a Volunteer Fire Fighter we are always after volunteers send us a message or just turn up on a Wednesday night at 7:30pm and we will show you around and see if fire fighting is for you.

01.01.2022 With the colder weather nearly upon us please get wood heater flues and chimneys checked and cleaned, and if you haven't already done it replace your smoke alarm batteries.
