25.01.2022 I see a lot of websites with social icons in their main header menus, or even in the ‘top bar’ of their websites. But why would you want someone to leave your website as soon as they land on it? Yes, you want to build up your social following. But you also want a user to spend some time on your website before they go to your social media accounts and get sucked into the social media black hole. A better place to put links to your social media accounts is in your footer, where... they can still be found by website viewers. But also not distract them from your content. Read more tips on optimising your website design for sales/conversions in my latest blog post: https://bit.ly/2NS1c76

24.01.2022 | D I Y D E S I G N T I P | How do you decide what colour you want to use in your DIY designs? Do you use the colours you like and that's it? ... Or do you think about what message you want to convey to your audience, and what colours they would connect with most. So for example, whilst your favourite colour may be purple, you generally wouldn't use purple if you were trying to sell mens aftershave. You would want to use a colour like blue (calming, nice easy shave) or orange (fresh feeling you get after shaving).
24.01.2022 | D I Y D E S I G N T I P | It's ok to have white space in your designs! You don't need to fill up every single space with something. White space allows your design to be scanned more easily (read: taken in easier by your audience).... It also allows you to guide your viewer where you want them to look in what order. Try adding some white space in your next design!
22.01.2022 Is there such a thing as too many colours? On your website there is! Too many colours can distract your viewer and also dilute your branding message.... You want to use the colours that are in your logo so that you have consistent branding. Make sure that you are choosing colours relevant to your business and appealing to your audience though. If you are selling kids toys for example, bright, fun colours would be more appealing compared to blacks and greys. For more tips on designing a website that is focused on gaining you customers and clients (rather than just looking good), check out my latest blog post via this link: https://bit.ly/2NS1c76

15.01.2022 Do you try and do everything at once when working on your business? Are you then left with a bunch of tasks that are half finished at the end of the day? I used to feel like I had to be doing everything at once. I would check emails as soon as they came in, I would jump from task to task and nothing would ever get done, and nothing would have my full attention. But there is a better way.... I now stay on one task at a time, and tasks that come up during the day get scheduled. Rather than me getting them started as soon as they come in. I also only check emails twice a day, I set aside time in the morning, and an hour after lunch. This way, things actually get done, and I can work to my full potential on one task.

11.01.2022 Here's an unusual time management tip. Take an HOUR lunch break. Have you ever been sitting at your computer working, looked up and realised it was 3pm and you hadn’t had lunch yet? I sure have.... I would power through and work all day, and although I would be getting everything done, the quality of my work would suffer. I was burning myself out, and denying my body the things it needed to function at 100%. So I told myself that I would start making sure that I took a lunch break. An HOUR lunch break. What do I do in that hour? Follow this link to find out more, as well as read more of my unusual time management tips: https://origamicollective.com.au/time-management-tips/

11.01.2022 And we don't mean don't ever work. But work can wait the 10 minutes it would take you make yourself some lunch. It can wait the 30 minutes it would take you to get some fresh air and clear your mind.... It can wait the 15 minutes it would take you to check up on a friend that you know is having a tough time. Yes, we need to work. But work will always be there. Remember to also live your life and take the time for things and people that you love.
09.01.2022 If you DIY'd your own website, did you take into account how it looks on mobiles? Almost 50% of my websites traffic comes from mobile devices, so making my website look good on mobile as well as desktop is important. For example, my home page header needed to be recreated for mobile. I use WordPress for my website, which allows me to create elements that can be hidden on different devices. ... I have a header that is seen by desktop users, and a different one that is seen by mobile users. So how does your website look on mobile? Are all your websites elements sitting nicely? Or do you have text images that have been cut off?

02.01.2022 | DIY DESIGN TIP | Some programs allow you to adjust the width of letters, but in the design world this is a big no no! You will end up with text that looks squashed (because duh, it has been), and it isn't pleasant for your audience to read.... Instead, adjust the spacing between the letters (kerning), or change the size of the text. You could also try a different font altogether!
01.01.2022 | D I Y D E S I G N T I P | How many fonts is too many? Wait....there's such a thing as too many fonts?! There sure is! If you are creating your own logo, it is best to have no more than two different fonts.... Too many fonts can take away from the professional look you would want your logo to have, and dilute your branding message. Do you need helping pairing fonts for your next DIY design project? Let me know below if you would like to see a blog post on font pairing.
01.01.2022 | GRAPHIC DESIGN TIP | When formatting blocks of text for things like media kits, freebies or eCourses, avoid having widows and orphans as they can make your design look unbalanced. Widow = a word on its own at the start of a page/block of text... Orphan = a word on its own on the last line of a block of text Side note, who never wants to see chocolate again after gorging over Easter?!
