23.01.2022 Sometimes you just need a moment. Tea, a good book, a doggo (or two) and a small moment that's all yours. That's what our US-based cleaning company client Dust and Mop wanted to give back to its audience to celebrate its tenth year in business. We were equal parts excited for this competition (I mean, who wouldn't want to win a year of house cleaning?!) and disappointed by this competition (because we couldn't enter to win the year's worth of house cleaning...!)... One thing that didn't disappoint? Their results. We absolutely smashed it out of the park together, delivering FOUR TIMES the number of warm, qualified email addresses they were hoping to receive. We needed a small moment ourselves to celebrate. Congratulations Dust and Mop on 10 amazing years serving your community in more ways than one.
22.01.2022 We love seeing the creativity in everyone's Christmas competitions. It seems like everyone is getting on board the giving train and spreading the Christmas cheer. We just wanted to check in and let you know we've created a super informative infographic to find out if the competition you're running is totally Facebook legal or totally not. Asking entrants to tag and share a post is totally ILLEGAL (Facebook illegal that is) and could get your business page Zucked forever ... As well as telling you what you can't do we've given you what you can do (you're welcome) read more here https://origamiglobe.com/is-my-facebook-competition-legal-/
19.01.2022 This weekend I stayed home and baked, cleaned, gardened and planned. It meant I had some tasty lemon drizzle cake to have with my morning coffee. I’m not going to lie, these past few weeks have sucked. From being ill (not the dreaded virus, don’t worry) with regular flu for 2 weeks, to having to cancel the holiday of a lifetime to see my brother marry the love of his life and finally take our own honeymoon in Europe and show my husband where I grew up and meet my extended fam...ily. I haven’t been ‘home’ to the UK in 5 years, so to say I’ve been a bit down in the dumps is an understatement. I know we’re all doing it tough right now in our own ways, but this situation is in all of our hands, we can #stayhomeand bake, make, craft, garden, have a movie marathon, sleep, clean and plan. I’ve been collaborating with my favourite business buddies whilst isolating at home on a way to use our unique skills to spread the message, not the virus, so stay tuned... #stayhome #stayhomechallenge #smallbusinessaustralia #covid19aus #covid19australia #staythefkathome #itsinourhands #smallbusinesscollaboration #stayhomestaysafe #selfisolation
18.01.2022 Can we talk about one of my favourite business tools for a sec? Yes, it might seem like a maze and really confusing if you're just starting out, but Google Analytics is an absolute GOLD MINE for information when running a competition. Not only is it free and relatively simple to set up (simply copy and paste a snippet of code to your site, like you do with Facebook's pixel) but if you know where to look you can get a whole host of really useful information to help you market... your business. If you don't know where to look, don't worry, we got you. Here are our favourite shortcuts. Exact demographics of people visiting your website (to confirm you're attracting the right entrants): Audience > Demographics > Overview Which social media channel sends the most traffic to your site (so you can up spend on ads or post/engage more often): Acquisition > All Traffic > Source/Medium or Referrals Even what your audience are literally 'in the market' shopping for at this moment in time (so you can offer exactly what they need): Audience > Interest > In-Market Segments We check Google Analytics for our business on a daily basis to help inform our marketing and make sure we're creating the best content for our audience. Analytics is also a vital tool for the competitions we run for our clients, from keeping an eye on how many people see the competition (Behaviour > Site Content > All Pages) to our conversion rate (or how many people see the landing page versus how many visitors we get to the thank you page). It's safe to say Google Analytics is easily one of my favourite business resources both for OrigamiGlobe and our clients. What's your favourite business tool?

16.01.2022 On Fridays, we Mastermind. I met this awesome bunch of kick arse #businesswomen through the #freelancejungle group. Every 2 weeks on a Friday morning, we celebrate our wins, talk out our challenges, help each other through the ups and downs, trials and tribulations of running a business, set goals and keep each other accountable. We’ve been masterminding for over 2 years now and we’ve seen so super high highs and some super tough lows. One thing’s for sure though, I don’t thi...nk I’d still be here (or sane) without the support of these funny, supportive, crazy intelligent and creative human beings. Do you belong to a mastermind group? 16.01.2022 Wanna know a secret? I actually don't mind Mondays... Before you growl and throw things at me, here's why:... I like to start my Mondays with a beach walk before work to get some fresh air and sometimes treat myself to coffee out... When I get to my desk, I plan out my week - what needs to be done that week, who I'm meeting with and any exciting things to look forward to. I save what I consider to be quiet, calm, introverted activities for a Monday morning - like clearing my inbox and reconciling my accounts. Under no circumstances do I allow meetings to be booked for Monday mornings. Monday afternoons are usually for marketing my business - writing blog posts, socials and putting together email newsletters I've deliberately cultivated a Monday routine that works for me, so I'm not grumpy like I used to be on a Monday morning back in corporate land... Are you #teammonday too?! Thanks to @anniespratt for the image, via @unsplash.
15.01.2022 We've been running competitions as OrigamiGlobe for almost 6 years now. 12.01.2022 ... and that's a wrap for 2019! Thank you so much for your comments, likes, business and support this year. It's been a super exciting year with two new competition nerds joining the team, creating competitions for some really high profile clients and continuing to expand internationally with competitions across the US and Europe this year. We're SUPER excited for what's in store for 2020...... Have a safe, fun and happy Christmas break we'll be back on deck early January. image credit: @plushdesignstudio

11.01.2022 I love podcasts. I love listening to them, I love being interviewed for them, I love chatting about them with both work friends and friend friends. Who knows, maybe one day I'll even start one of my own (I've often thought about it, I mean, I do LOVE talking...) So when Stephanie from The Digital Apprenticeship asked if I'd like to come on the podcast to talk about social media competitions, it was a "heck yeah!" from me.... On the podcast we talk about: Best practice for running social media contests in 2020 The two major types of competitions How to promote your contest How to encourage more competition entries What you need to know about social media contest rules & regulations The difference between earned, owned and paid media You can catch the episode and/or read the show notes here: https://www.thedigitalapprenticeship.com.au//social-media-
11.01.2022 Oh, hi there. It's been a while... Did you miss me? I'm not going to lie, the break from social media was totally unplanned. But it's been bliss. It gave me time to focus on the fantastic clients I've been running exciting competitions for (hello wilderness lodges, doggos and kids gyms I wish had been around when I was a kid) ... It gave me time to put my creative energy and passion for competitions into writing blog posts which have *doubled* traffic to our website in the past 6 months ... and of course it gave me some time and headspace back for me, my family and friends. The problem with social media silence though, is it makes people ask 'is your business still going?! I haven't seen you post on social media for aaaages?' (why yes, that is a real question I was asked recently... oops!) Yes, we're still going better than ever and yes, I'm back and attempting to post a little more regularly than 4 times a year... How the devil have you been?!
10.01.2022 What do these have in common? They’re all reasons people aren’t entering your competition. If your competition is suffering a distinct lack of entries, I’d be willing to wager it’ll be for one of these reasons: There’s a PROBLEM with your entry page or post, it’s not live or visible or something is broken. Test for technical difficulties first.... The wrong PEOPLE (or not enough people) are seeing your competition. Check your analytics/insights and adjust your targeting. Your PRIZE isn’t compelling, relevant or valuable enough to convince people to hand over their details or you’ve not clearly explained what your prize is and why they should want it. You’re asking for too much info or you haven’t explained clearly enough what they have to do to enter. Long forms with millions of fields is a surefire way to get zero entries for your competition (and bore the pants off your customers). The good news? We tell you how to fix all of the above and get the entries flowing again in this post here: https://origamiglobe.com/why-no-one-is-entering-your-compe/ (or click the link in our bio!). #howtorunacompetition #competitiontips #marketingtips #digitalmarketingtips #socialmediatips #socialmediacompetitions
10.01.2022 Pros of social media competitions: Your audience is there Work well for engagement competition goals People are familiar with social media competitions... They're quick and easy to run You don't need much technical knowledge Cons of social media competitions: You'll need to pay for reach if you don't have many followers Social competitions are a little overdone You don't own any of the entry materials (or followers) Organic reach sucks, so you'll have to pay to reach your new followers They're really, really, reeeeeally hard to track and pick winners for Wanna learn more? 09.01.2022 Wishing everyone a safe, merry and happy Christmas and New Year! OrigamiGlobe will be closed from 3pm 18 December 2020 and reopen 9am 11 January 2021.
09.01.2022 What's the difference between do it yourself and done for you competitions? Do it yourself competitions are for: People who are running a competition for the first time and want to learn the process... Business owners who like to learn a process before delegating it to someone else Marketers or business owners on a budget Marketers and business owners who have plenty of time to dedicate to running the competition themselves On the other hand, a done for you competition is exactly how it sounds... a complete competition from start to finish planned, built, legalised, managed, promoted, advertised, closed and debriefed by a team of competition and giveaway nerds (that's us). Not sure if you should DIY or get it DFY? Why not book in a chat with us to talk through your competition idea? You'll find the link in our bio
08.01.2022 Facebook advertisers rejoice! Facebook are removing their 20% text rule, which used to see hugely reduced reach and higher ad costs if your ad contained more than 20% text. Of course Facebook still recommend you keep text on your ad images to a minimum, with ads containing less than 20% text performing best. Excellent news for those of us who like to shout about the fact we're running a competition ... https://www.socialmediatoday.com//facebooks-removi/585705/
07.01.2022 Should you archive or delete your competition posts on social media? If you want to you can, but (always that but), we recommend leaving the posts as they’re part of your brand's story and usually have great engagement. They act as social proof for your brand encouraging others to interact and potentially resulting in purchases. Do you delete old posts that don't fit your feed anymore?!
07.01.2022 I want to talk to you about pigs. Prize pigs to be exact. They’re on my radar today for two reasons: we’ve just posted a blog about how free competition terms and conditions templates may not protect your business from prize pigs and one of our wonderful, lovely clients has just found their competition posted to a comp site and prize pigs are entering their competition and are wondering what they can do about it... Here’s how to avoid prize pigs:... Have a set of terms and conditions! Don’t skip it because it’s boring or hard, it’s vital and it’s a great way to stop prize pigs robbing you blind by asking for cash. We have an affordable template at origamiglobe.com/shop... so no excuses! Avoid generic, high value prizes! iPads and iPhones we’re lookin at you. These have super universal appeal and resell for a high value making them perfect little money makers for prize pigs. Don’t post your competition on competition sites (duh). Competition sites are prize pig heaven, so if you want to avoid the pigs, avoid the comp sites. What do you do if you end up on a competition site or prize pigs enter your competition? Don’t panic! Segment, tag, funnel and nurture. Work out which ones are the pigs and which ones are the purchasers. Don’t assume because someone has entered from a comp site that they won’t purchase, read their buying signals and if they don’t open your emails, click your links or browse your products or services, they probably won’t purchase, so purge them from your list! #byefelicia Treat prize pigs with the same eligibility as entrants from other channels, just because they are a prize pig, doesn’t mean you can exclude them from your pool of entrants. Of course it’s disappointing when your competition ends up on a competition site, it still gets to us every time too, but we’ve learnt to turn it into an opportunity and we hope sharing these tips will help you avoid the prize pigs and provide you with some practical tips should you find yourself inundated with entries from greedy little piggies... oink. Thanks @jakobowens for the awesome pigture (see what we did there?!) via @unsplash
06.01.2022 When was the last time you stopped to take a deep breath? This is your friendly Friday reminder to s l o w d o w n. Deep breath in, deep breath out. Slow the heck down.... After I finish work on a Friday, I head to yoga with one of my favourite people in the world, it's a much-needed slowing down of my breath and body so I can release the week and slide on in to the weekend, blissed out, stretched out and chilled out. [Image shows a person in a tracksuit jacket and long hair under a blue neon sign that reads SLOW DOWN. I kinda want this sign in my office... Thank you @danielmonteirox for the beautiful image found on @unsplash.]

03.01.2022 What's the big idea? Did you know our site is bursting at the seams with ideas for competitions, giveaways and contests? I literally had to fix our blog page origamiglobe.com/the-fold so it could fit all the blog posts, of which there are now over 100, with most blog posts around the 1,500 word mark. My #OGONEBIGTIP for all you competition DIYers out there, would be to check out our post '18 giveaway ideas for businesses and 4 to avoid at all costs' at origamiglobe.com/1...8-giveaway-ideas-for-businesses/ (link in bio) If you're *still* stuck for ideas, you can always book in a free chat with me, Suki van K, the competition-obsessed chick behind OrigamiGlobe, you'll find the link to that in our bio too. 01.01.2022 What day is it? Did I eat today? When was the last time I wore something other than PJs? Is it technically still Christmas or New Year now?! The week between Christmas and New Year is such a weird one. No one ever knows what day it is. Embracing my German roots, I found the perfect way to describe this time of year: zwischen den Jahren, or literally 'between the years'. You're welcome. Kind of reminds me of the halfway point of a competition, are we still promoting the launch... of the competition or counting down to close now, have we been open for 2 weeks or only 2 weeks left to go? Maybe I should rename the halfway point zwischen den Countdown...en? #showerthoughts #zwischendenjahren #yourewelcome
