25.01.2022 Another pretty snap of my 3D origami flamingo taken from the Lot19 Spring Sculpture Prize exhibition opening on Saturday. You can come along and view the works any Saturday or Sunday from 12-5pm till the 28th. Photo courtesy of Tina Rae.
24.01.2022 Hello Castlemaine creative smokers, for those of you who smoke rolled cigarettes and use Tally Ho papers as your preferred choice in papers, I need your help! I am in the process of creating a unique 3D modular origami piece using solely the Tally Ho 10 to Go papers. I have been collecting them personally for a while now but realise I would need to really up my daily smoking to reach the goal of 3000 papers anytime soon (and my mum wouldn't like that!) so was hoping some of the other smokers within our creative community, who already use tally ho papers could start to stash pile these 10 to go's for me? If you would be interested in assisting me in this creative recycled origami project, please leave a comment below or PM me for further details about the project. My mum and lungs thank you in advance.
18.01.2022 The 2018 Lot19 Spring Sculpture Prize exhibition opened this weekend. This will be my forth year of exhibiting my origami creations in this very special Castlemaine event and this year I was even lucky enough to be honoured with a prize!! Thank you @themillcastlemaine for appreciating my 3D origami birds. I feel very humbled. Here's a few pics of my current works. The exhibition is on view for a month and there are some wonderful sculptures on display from some of the most t...alented visual artists of the region so if you get the chance, come into Castlemaine and take a look. 13.01.2022 If I was living in Sydney, I'd definitely be going to this but alas as I am currently recovering from Carpal Tunnel surgery back home with the folks in Adelaide... there will be no folding expeditions up the coast for me for a little while. But if you're in Sydney and love to fold, check this out!
13.01.2022 On the weekend, I went to to the opening of the 'Small Works from a BIG Place' exhibition at the Castlemaine Train Station. The exhibition showcases the talented bunch of visual artists from the Central Victorian Goldfields and the small works they produce. Here I am by my work, 'There Are More Than Two Sides To This' nerdy origami geo night light. The exhibition will be on show at the Castlemaine Train Station till the 29th of November before it heads down the line to Bend...igo, where it will be on display till the 10th of December. Come and admire all the fabulous little art things. 12.01.2022 First time in five years that I sadly won't be contributing in this fabulous local sculpture prize and exhibition at Lot19. With the big move across state borders, it was all a bit too hard to get something arranged to be sent over for it this year. I feel super chuffed that an image of my flamingo from last year has been used in the poster for this year's show... So I will be there today in spirit. I wish all the contributing artists the best of luck for the glory of winning some of the awesome prizes up for grabs...and if you are in the area, you should do your soul a favour and go and check out the amazing works created by some of the best sculpture artists in the country. I feel sad not to be able to be there today but I will be sure to be back in the game next year for it's 15th show.
12.01.2022 My beloved 'Opa' passed away just a few days before Christmas. I was able to be back home, just in time to be with him on his final day to kiss him farewell and tell him how I loved him. It was such a precious experience, one I will forever cherish. He was 97 and loved a full and exciting, independent and rich life. He always had a spring in his step, a smile in his heart and love for his family. Tomorrow, I fly back home again for his funeral. Since Opa's death, I have been busy folding cranes for his send off. I was going to make 100 cranes but then thought 97 was more fitting. One crane representing each year of his wonderful life. This is what 97 cranes look like. #100cranes #origamicranesforpeace #origami #funeralwreath
12.01.2022 A big thank you shout out to all the lovely creative people who shared in the joys of origami with me under my favourite Wattle tree down at Vaughan Springs yesterday as part of the wonderful and inspired 'Tree Change' Festival. What a fun afternoon of folding! #creativespace #origamiworkshops #makingartaccessible #foldingpaperunderatree #vaughansprings #sharingiscaring #treechange #lovingnature #sittingunderatree #doingitinstyle
07.01.2022 A pic from the recent exhibition at Vaughan Springs Tree Change Festival.
04.01.2022 2019 was a hectic year for me, with a big interstate move to be closer to my father who has been fighting the good fight against cancer, I have been fighting against my own body too with a serious hand injury to contend with that had left me unable to fold for many months and then, finally settling into my new place and establishing a sustainable farm on the cliffs of the Murray River at Ponde, SA. It has been a whirlwind of changes and new challenges along the way so I had t...o put my folding to the side for a while....but in 2020, I feel inspired, recharged and ready to revitalise my creative self and return to the fold. I have been busy, plotting and planning for new creative origami ventures here in SA and hope to engage further with my local community to bring the peace and joy that comes with origami to all who want it. So now I have a fabulous new working studio within which I can make the origami magic happen. (I also have another downstairs studio room, dedicated to workshops and Positive Affirmation Origami Healing Experiences in the home, it's a big old stone house.) I have never lived in a two storey house before and I sometimes still forget I even have this room upstairs and then I pinch myself. I have always crafted in the lounge, on the couch, in the kitchen, sprawled over the dinning table, out in nature, at friends places and on the train and though I have had a studio once before at CASPA, I barely used it as it was more of a happy distraction and cool place to be apart of rather than a place where I could shut myself away and peacefully design and craft. Now I have this gorgeous and well organised (for now) dedicated creative space with panoramic views of both the beautiful Murray River and the surrounding desert farmlands, a balcony for my morning cuppa and chit chat chirp with the birds and peace, complete peace and serenity from the outside world of chaos and insanity. It feels good and I feel that inspired and passionate, sustainable and engaging work will be coming out of this studio very soon. So watch this space. #studiobliss #origamiartist #engineroom #makingartmakesyouhappy #workingfromhomeneverlookedthisgood #creativespace #bigcraftroom #makingartfromhome #designinspireengage
03.01.2022 These fun gold origami modular earrings and matching sparkly bangle will brighten up your day! A sneak peak of one of my new origami works which is about to go on display during the month of November. I will be submitting three new works in the Small Things From a Big Place pop-up exhibition, which is a traveling feast of small creative works by local artists of the Victorian Central Goldfields. The roving exhibition will be on show at the Riddell's Creek Train Station before moving down the tracks to Castlemaine and then finally Bendigo. Come and wonder at the creative little things people make and do. #origami #origamijewellery #modularorigami #goldshinypaperthings #visualartist #makingarteveryday #artyoucanwear #paperartist #exhibiting #castlemaineartist #gold #sparkle #prettyshinythings
