21.01.2022 We spent yesterday at Gilchrist Oval, Campbelltown for the 40th Anniversary Tribute to Jason Moir who has advised he's retiring after this season. We had some boys from the old days come along and enjoy the hospitality and the boys from the modern era delivered their own tribute to The Neck with wins in all grades against long-time rivals The Dirty Kooka's (Baulkham Hills). 1st and 3rd Grades are Minor Premiers and yesterday’s wins ensured 2nd Grade and U/18s made the top f...our, so we’ll see all 4 teams in next week’s semi finals games. We heard stories of perfect pitching, magnificent batting and superhuman fielding, and comparisons between the old game and the modern era including one old boy telling us how he was once ejected for smirking. He was at 1st base and the ump called the batter-runner safe he turned and maybe shook his head or raised an eyebrow or, yes, smirked. He had to front the tribunal and got a week. Compare to 3rd Grade yesterday where a player (we won’t name names, but it wasn’t an Oriole) carried on loud and long when he was rung up! The speeches in the official part of the day were emotional and we almost had a washout from the tears that flowed when it was announced that Neck’s #17 will be retired. The committee is keen to make Old Boys Day an annual event. 05.01.2022 Congratulations to MITCHELL LIDDLE who was awarded life membership at presentation night last weekend. Mitch first pulled on the orange shirt 30 years ago, aged just 4 years old. He's played every age group and grade for Orioles. He's played every field position. He's coached juniors and seniors. He's won club and league awards. He's a member of the senior leadership group. He remembers almost every pitch he's delivered or received and his aggressive playing style has left some opposition with some bitter memories as he's out-run, out -slid or just out-foxed them.
