22.01.2022 For some lucky people in the Country they still have Jiu Jitsu and one of those people is Orion Jiu Jitsu alumni James Davies. I’m very humbled as a Coach to play a part in each of my students journeys. To see them grow and achieve in this great art and the positive effects it has on them not just in Jiu Jitsu but in life. James is a great example of this. Having met him as a young man and white belt and seeing him grow as not just a practitioner but a person has been a great... joy. He brings a joyful quality with him that any club is lucky to have and understands that which is most important but often overlooked in Jiu Jitsu. A sense of community. James was a big part of our friendly culture and he has been missed since moving on to his newest adventure. As a Coach I saw how he connected with the other students and looked to build that into my own approach and our wider club culture. This is James’s true talent, his ability to connect with people. I did not get to be there for his recent grading but I would have made the trip as I have done for many other students. I would have done so because our gradings are hard not just to reflect our skill level, but because this builds and shapes our character off the mats. And you’ve done our art proud It’s been a privilege to have played a part in your journey James and your Orion family is proud of you. All grown up now. Congratulations

08.01.2022 Are you OK day is always a bit on the nose for me as a mental health worker that we need a day to remind us of this, but it’s a good reminder of what we should try to practice with each other daily. Especially at the moment with Coronavirus taking so many of our favourite things and social connections away. An overlooked part of the mental health discussion is in our own ability to ask ourselves Am I ok?. We can ask R U OK? but we need to do a better job of asking Am I OK t...oo. And it’s ok to say no, it’s a good step to realise you need help, and it’s much better to work it out together than it is to tough it out alone. I know of many instances where I’ve been worried about a person and when I’ve asked them if they’re OK and they live replied yeah I’m fine. Even though I could tell they weren’t. Generationally and culturally we’ve been taught to be tough, to keep it hidden, to not be weak. But this isn’t helpful or healthy. This is why if someone tells me they’re fine and I suspect they aren’t I’ll ask them to ask themselves Am I ok? and remind them that I’m around if they need me. As Martial artists we strive to be the best warriors we can be. But Warriors are still humans and not all battles are on the mats. Please if you ask yourself Am I OK? And the answer is no reach out. A bit of vulnerability and little help can make all the difference #ruokday2020

07.01.2022 Quick workout with the only Ninjas I can train with at the moment. I’ve had a few teachers in my time from new school philosophy Jiu Jitsu Sensei’s to old school Brazil Jiu Jitsu Professors and a common agreement is that belts should be earned on the mats through pressure. It’s the only way to keep the art pure and effective. Anything else is considered disrespectful to BJJ and a sets up a false sense of capability for the student. It’s the standard that retains the quality ...of the art and keeps our style honest and our ability to defend ourselves realistic. I’ve had many conversations with our students who appreciate their tabs and belts all the more because they know they are truly at that level when they get them. Sadly for us that means, outside of Jamesee D here, there will be no belt promotions for a little bit. But when we get back to it they’ll feel all the more special Also you’ll have to excuse Jeffy the Dummy with his head in the bucket. 04.01.2022 ***ANNOUNCEMENT*** When we turned our lights off on August 6th this year we were confident that it wouldn’t be forever. Unfortunately this is not the case as we will no longer be located at our current premises moving forward. We were hopeful to be able to come back for the weeks leading up to and for full contact on Nov. 23rd but for the time being the OJJA lights remain off.... We are so thrilled for our friends in the industry who are able to resume their businesses and their livelihoods, and for the community to once again have the value of Martial Arts. We’re hopeful to be joining you again soon. The OJJA team remains committed to bringing our top quality championship Jiu Jitsu back in the near future. Stay tuned to the page for updates as they come available.

04.01.2022 ***ANNOUNCEMENT*** In line with the Government’s announcement today, Orion JJA will close its doors again from this Wednesday the 5th of August. This is a challenging and frustrating time for all of us and we hope we will see the other side of this Lockdown. Check back here for updates as they become available.... Our Tuesday class will run as scheduled this week at 6:30pm (Bookings are essential). And Kids students have been informed as to a potential wrap up class before the Lockdown takes effect. Take care of each other and regardless of how you feel please do your bit. 03.01.2022 Hi all, just letting you guys know that tomorrow's training will be gi training. If you don't have a gi, don't stress, you can come in with your no gi gear. The 1st half hour will be spent on technique and drilling and the remaining hour will be spent on Luke's grading and the rest of the guys can also roll on simultaneously while Luke gets shark tanked.
