22.01.2022 SA’S UNDER-EXPLORED NORTHERN CAPE A DRIPPING ROAST IF GOVT. WOULD JUST OPEN THE DOOR Lack of minerals exploration in South Africa’s mining sector goes back to its corporatisation more than 60 years ago. Errol Smart, a South African who has worked in the Australian minerals development sector, is convinced the time is ripe to change history. It would be apposite: President Cyril Ramaphosa’s economic recovery plan is crying out for the kind of vigour Smart and other miners s...ay they can bring, especially in the Northern Cape province. Geologically, I can tell you, having gone around the world and looked at terrains, the Northern Cape is an absolute dripping roast, said Smart at the Joburg Indaba, a mining conference which this year was held virtually. Said Smart: Just on our 3,000 square kilometres of mining rights and prospecting rights alone, we have got 23 commodities of interest. It has everything from uranium and nickel and cobalt to platinum [group metals] and gold, and all the base metals you can dream of. There are very few places in the world where you can find a terrain like that. What’s needed is political certainty, regulatory liberalisation, and an online minerals rights registration system that works properly and isn’t victim to corruption, previously endemic in the Department of Minerals & Energy, according to mining sources. #OrionMinerals #SAMining #NorthernCape #PrieskaProject #Copper https://www.miningmx.com//44140-under-explored-northern-c/ See more

20.01.2022 BUOYANT TAKE ON NORTHERN CAPE’S MINING POTENTIAL As the prospects for South Africa’s minerals sector start to brighten, there was considerable mention of the Northern Cape’s potential at the recent Joburg Indaba mining conference. It was encouraging to hear a similar message from major mining companies and juniors alike that there is still considerable scope for exploration and mineral development in the Northern Cape province, said Joseph Mainama, principal mining engine...er at SRK Consulting. Mainama noted that Anglo American chief executive officer Mark Cutifani mentioned in his conference address that the Northern Cape was considered to be under-explored, and that his company was interested in exploration opportunities for base metals like copper within South Africa and in the rest of Africa. At the conference, Australia-listed Orion Minerals reported good progress on its brownfields Prieska copper-zinc project in the Northern Cape, he said, Managing director Errol Smart was also upbeat about government’s role in supporting exploration in the province, and he expected to see much more exploration there in the near future which could bring a range of economic benefits even in the short-term. https://www.miningreview.com//buoyant-take-on-northern-ca/ #OrionMinerals #SAMining #NorthernCape #Copper

17.01.2022 CLEAN, GREEN COPPER OF N CAPE WILL BE PRODUCED AT NIGH ZERO COST ORION The clean, green copper that Orion Minerals will mine with the help of the Northern Cape’s hot sun and prime wind will be almost free of cost, paid for by the zinc credits, Orion Minerals CEO Errol Smart said on Tuesday. If you take it as a copper mine only, net of zinc credits, we come close to dropping off the scale, because the zinc actually pays for the production on this mine. You get the copper al...most for free, Smart told the 2020 Junior Indaba. https://www.miningweekly.com//clean-green-copper-of-northe #OrionMinerals #Mining #Copper

17.01.2022 OKIEP COPPER PROJECT SCOPING STUDY CONFIRMS POTENTIAL FOR EARLY CASH FLOW AND ‘PROOF-OF-CONCEPT’ COPPER PRODUCTION Orion Minerals today presented the outcomes of a foundation phase scoping study completed for the development of the Flat Mines and Jan Coetzee copper deposits at the Okiep Copper Project. The Okiep Project is located in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, approximately 450km to the west of Orion’s flagship Prieska Copper-Zinc Project.... Orion’s Managing Director and CEO, Errol Smart, said the outcome of the scoping study supports the economic merit of developing a foundation phase mining operation while Orion conducts the required work and engineering studies to evaluate the potential to re-establish mining operations with outputs as were previously sustained for decades by previous owners. Newmont managed to produce 30,000 - 40,000 tonnes per annum of copper. Based on the strength of the scoping study results, Orion is now pressing ahead to complete final due diligence programs at the Okiep Copper Project, with a final decision on the project acquisition to be made by 31 July 2021. 15.01.2022 ORION SUPPORTING LAUNCH OF SUSTAINABLE MICRO BUSINESSES As part of its community and social responsibility, Orion Minerals has launched a micro-business initiative aimed at supporting start-up businesses in its host communities. Orion is preparing for the establishment of the Prieska Copper-Zinc Project, which is now in the advanced stages of planning, and believes that mine communities have a vital role to play in the stimulation of a regional economy. ... Mining projects, including Orion’s Prieska Project, in South Africa’s Northern Cape, are catalysts to economic development, spurring opportunities for the communities in which they operate. In line with its support and collaboration with the local authorities and the community to manage the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic at this unprecedented time, Orion started its small business support initiative with the provision of finance for a Marydale community member to establish a business making COVID-prevention face masks. Orion assisted Liza Thobi to kick start her small income-generating business by providing seed capital for the purchase of input materials. The arrangement was that she repay 80% of these funds. Liza has already paid back 100% of her loan and sold over 200 masks. Orion intends to recirculate the repaid funds to make an affordable loan available to another socially responsible investment in the community, prioritising community entrepreneurs, and women in micro enterprise. Eks baie dankbaar vir die material se aankoop. Dit het vir my deurbraak gegee. Dankie, said Lisa. (I am very thankful for the purchasing of the material. It provided a breakthrough for me. Thank you.) #OrionMinerals #PrieskaProject #Mining #Copper Visit Orion’s website for more on our community engagement and COVID-19 initiatives https://orionminerals.com.au/sustainability/community/ Caption: Proud micro business owner, Liza Thobi, with the masks she made from fabric bought by Orion.

13.01.2022 ORION MINERALS IDEALLY PLACED TO BE A FLAG BEARER FOR JUNIOR MINING Orion’s September Quarterly Report reflects the progress the company has made in advancing its world-class, long-life base metals operation at its flagship Prieska Copper-Zinc Project, which is ideally placed both to be a flag-bearer for junior mining in South Africa and to help drive the post-COVID economic recovery of the Northern Cape Province. In the three months to end September 2020, Orion secured the ...final permits for the new South African copper-zinc mine, prepared for early site works, and restarted an exciting new phase of near-mine and regional exploration. We also progressed discussions with a wide range of potential strategic partners, customers, and project financiers during the Quarter. Prieska is a unique asset in the global base metals context and accordingly, it is attracting a considerable amount of interest from across the spectrum of the mining and mine finance industry, both in South Africa and beyond, says Orion’s Managing Director and CEO, Errol Smart. The metals that will be mined at Prieska will form a key pillar in the development of a more sustainable, green economy. Our development strategy received further impetus during the Quarter from the significant tailwind now being seen in the price for copper and other ‘future-facing’ metals as the world increasingly focuses on the importance of securing new supplies of these metals over the next decade, adds Smart. 03.01.2022 EXPEDITING SOUTH AFRICAN EXPLORATION Exploration spend in South Africa has undoubtedly taken a knock as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with S&P Global Market Intelligence predicting a 29% decrease in global exploration spend for 2020. However, as a crucial first step in the project cycle, exploration will become a key focus for the country as the Department of Minerals Resources and Energy (DMRE) looks to release a six-point exploration strategy aimed at enabling and expe...diting exploration to take place within South Africa, attendees of The Junior Indaba, heard today. According to DMRE Minister Gwede Mantashe, there are plans afoot to develop an exploration implementation plan, together with the Minerals Council South Africa and the Council for Geoscience. It is Mantashe’s desire to release this strategy sooner rather than later, to give the mining sector an opportunity to comment on whether or not it believes the strategy provides a workable solution. In a panel discussion aimed at dissecting the current climate for junior mining and exploration in South Africa, PwC’s Africa Energy, Utilities and Resources leader, Andries Rossouw said that massive untapped exploration still exists in South Africa and that exploration is critical to ensure sustainability of the mining industry and is essential to discover future growth projects. This sentiment was shared by Errol Smart, CEO of Orion Minerals, who is also the Chair of the Junior and Emerging Miners Leadership Forum of the Minerals Council South Africa. Smart says, the impact of investing in exploration is short and its significant and has a massive potential impact on the country’s GDP and job creation. Mantashe believes South Africa has the potential to attract foreign direct investment into South Africa and together with the Council for Geosciences is getting its house in order to do so, The Junior Indaba also heard. https://www.miningreview.com//expediting-south-african-ex/ #OrionMinerals #SAMining #JuniorMining #Exploration

03.01.2022 ORION MINERALS CONDEMNS VIOLENCE, INTIMIDATION AND DAMAGE TO PROPERTY AND REINFORCES ITS COMMITMENT TO DEVELOPMENT WITH SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY BENEFITS. The right to protest is enshrined in the Constitution. Intimidating behaviour including carrying assault weapons at a public protest to force management and local government to accede to demands is not. Johannesburg (30 April 2021) Orion Minerals unequivocally condemns the faction of the Siyathemba community who used the pro...test on 29 April in Prieska in the Northern Cape as an opportunity to make threats and to intimidate site security staff and others at gunpoint. Orion remains committed to the Prieska Mine project and our internationally recognised Environmental, Social and Governance standards. Orion is an exploration company that has yet to build the Prieska mine. Our shareholders have invested and continue to invest substantial shareholder funding on community engagement and upliftment as well as progressing the project to development. We are proud that we exceed the South African Mining Charter requirements and have made clear commitments to substantial employee training and continued enterprise development for the benefit of our host community, who are also shareholders in the company. From the outset of work at Prieska, Orion has been quite clear that it will expect all core contractors to employ locals and to bring on board local sub-contractors whenever these can be sourced locally on fair and commercial terms. This will foster high local employment, contracting and subcontracting opportunities. As training and enterprise development programs progress, we expect to source increasing supplies and services locally. We have received enormous support from the greater part of the community who do not support or condone yesterday’s actions in any way, and who understand the negative impact that this action may have on the Siyathemba community. We remain committed to constructively engage on all issues that require mutual cooperation with all our stakeholders.
