22.01.2022 There is no manual on how to be a good parent, and sometimes I question if we are doing a good job. Moments like this make my heart smile...her level confidence is something I can only aspire to achieve. She is the blessing I didn’t know I needed!

22.01.2022 Fire Training for residents and staff at Orley Supported at Accommodation really good information thanks Barney Bryson from First Response. Always push your electrical plug right into the electric socket otherwise it will continue to arch and eventually cause a fire. Most house fires are caused by electrical issues!

22.01.2022 Thank you Abbey for bringing in some fresh gooseberries!

21.01.2022 Moonlight Magic Ball Convention Centre - oh what a night!

20.01.2022 It's the weather for a big pot of homemade chicken soup and crusty rolls for lunch! We've pulled out the beanies and scarves. Thank you also to Mrs Lyn Oliver ( whose dear son Michael used to live with us in his final year) who crocheted so many scarves and beanies for the guys - they thought it was Christmas...the Bronco boys pulled theirs out of the cupboard to join in.

20.01.2022 Picnic in our local park - nice to get out in the sunshine and fresh air. Nice time had by all... and not so far to walk.

20.01.2022 Our new commercial grade kitchen ... the unveiling ! Nearly there.... we will have an opening once all the council inspections are over.

19.01.2022 A photo to honour one of our very committed service providers - Mary from FSG she brings professionalism and a sense of humour that we all love! These group photos are from our weekly Life Skills program group - they had been cooking up a storm before the holiday period. As a complement to the empowerment in every episode of care, our residents benefit from a formal program of learning and maintaining their skills of everyday living in a fun environment. Thanks Kathryn from Ridgee Didge Tutelage for your passion and facilitating this group over many years. PS we are accepting expressions of interest as some vacancies coming up as people age and move on. Make an appointment abd come visit us! Contact Yvonne 0422551102.

14.01.2022 After Ann Coulter referred to President Obama as a retard in a tweet during Monday night’s presidential debate, Special Olympics athlete and global messenger ...John Franklin Stephens penned her this open letter: Dear Ann Coulter, Come on Ms. Coulter, you aren’t dumb and you aren’t shallow. So why are you continually using a word like the R-word as an insult? I’m a 30 year old man with Down syndrome who has struggled with the public’s perception that an intellectual disability means that I am dumb and shallow. I am not either of those things, but I do process information more slowly than the rest of you. In fact it has taken me all day to figure out how to respond to your use of the R-word last night. I thought first of asking whether you meant to describe the President as someone who was bullied as a child by people like you, but rose above it to find a way to succeed in life as many of my fellow Special Olympians have. Then I wondered if you meant to describe him as someone who has to struggle to be thoughtful about everything he says, as everyone else races from one snarkey sound bite to the next. Finally, I wondered if you meant to degrade him as someone who is likely to receive bad health care, live in low grade housing with very little income and still manages to see life as a wonderful gift. Because, Ms. Coulter, that is who we are and much, much more. After I saw your tweet, I realized you just wanted to belittle the President by linking him to people like me. You assumed that people would understand and accept that being linked to someone like me is an insult and you assumed you could get away with it and still appear on TV. I have to wonder if you considered other hateful words but recoiled from the backlash. Well, Ms. Coulter, you, and society, need to learn that being compared to people like me should be considered a badge of honor. No one overcomes more than we do and still loves life so much. Come join us someday at Special Olympics. See if you can walk away with your heart unchanged. A friend you haven’t made yet, John Franklin Stephens Global Messenger Special Olympics Virginia

03.01.2022 Lovely Mothers Day today! some people were missing their mothers today but they are well loved and safe and happy. It is hard for families to leave their loved ones in the care of others especially knowing we all won't be here forever. At Orleys we skill people to stand up for themselves, be confident and know what's right or wrong. They know who to talk to if they are worried or need help. Thank you to Des, Sue and Greg Wheeler for your generosity in your gifts today. You are a lovely family and we are blessed to have your lovely daughter in our care.
