25.01.2022 Plant of the Week Zamia furfuracea or Cardboard Palm This plant is actually not a palm it's a cycad. It is commonly used in landscapes as it is a very hardy plant that once established requires low water. It does well in full sun or part shade. It is also has round leaflets which means they are not so likely to stab you as you walk past them like most cycads. #zamia #zamiafurfuracea #plantoftheweek #CardboardPalm #cycad #notapalm #roundedleaves #shadesofgreen #cycads #cycadaddict #evergreen #green #cycadsofinstagram

24.01.2022 Plant of the Week Schlumbergera tendenza or Zygoscactus These plants known for their beautiful flowers which come in a huge range of colours. This one in the picture is a cultivar called Amazonas. They are epiphytes so need good drainage and prefer pots rather than the ground. They can grow just about anywhere in Australia and since they flower in winter create a great pop of colour in the garden when the days get shorter. Another positive they are easy to grow from cuttings. #Schlumbergeratendenza #Zygoscactus #cactus #Schlumbergera #pink #flowers #pinkflowers #zygo #epiphyte #epiphytes #Plantoftheweek #plantselfie #flower #flowersofinstagram #flowerphotography #flowerlovers #winterflowers #winterflowershow

24.01.2022 Plant of the Week Asplenium australasicum or Birds Nest Fern I was inspired this week to pick a plant we saw on our bushwalk. Since we were talking through rainforest I could not go past the Birds Nest Fern. There are a number of species of this fern, in Australia we have about 30 native species. These beautiful plants typically grow on trees high in the canopy in their natural habitat. They are great feature plants in the garden as the have a strong architectural shape. The...y don't like full sun. They grow well in gardens, pots and in rockeries and bring a tropical character to a garden. #PlantoftheWeek #Aspleniumaustralasicum #Asplenium #BirdsNestFern #rainforest #rainforestplants #rainforestcanopy #tropical #tropicalplant #tropicalplants #BirdsNestFerns #BirdsNestFern # tropicalplantsofinstagram #tropicalplantsgarden #tropicalplanting #tropicalrainforest

24.01.2022 Loose parts play is a fantastic way to bring additional play value to a your playground. This amazing structure was created by a group of kids who wanted to create their own hut. One of the questions I often get asked about lose parts play is. How do we store the loose parts to keep them contained? The answer can vary from school to school but with defined spaces easy use storage and effective guidance loose parts play doesn't have to take over the entire school grounds.... 17.01.2022 Plant of the Week Zamioculcas zamiifolia or Zanzibar Gem I love this plant, it is often used as an indoor plant and is one of the hardiest around. It can tolerate extremely low light. Tolerates not being watered for months and still looks good even if it doesn't seem to be growing much. I have known people to think they are fake. It also does well in the garden in a shaded position. So if you have not had much success with plants previously then this might be the one for you.... #plantoftheweek #plantselfie #Zamioculcaszamiifolia #Zamioculcas #ZanzibarGem #ZanzibarGem #green #evergreen #hardyplants #indoorplants #hardyplant #lowlightplants #lowlightplant #indoorplant #plantsofinstagram See more

16.01.2022 Plant of the Week Euphorbia hypericifolia or sometimes know as Diamond Frost is small shrub which can be pruned to shape plant. It has tiny flowers and what you think are the white petals in fact to be the plants bracts. When in flower it puts on amazing display of white colour which against the garden can really attract your eye. The often remind me of giant snowballs. #plantoftheweek #plantsofinstagram... #plantlife #plantselfie #euphorbia #euphorbiahypericifolia #bractsnotflowers #white #flowerdisplay #popofcolor #starlikeflowers #dimondfrost See more

16.01.2022 Plant of the Week Xanthorrhoea or Grass Tree There are 66 species of grass tree endemic to Australia. They are sculptural plants that look great as features or small groups in the landscape. They are slow growing and produce long flower stalks which bees love. They also remind me of the childrens book character Grug (I know he is actually from a Burrawang tree but they look similar). #xanthorrhoea #grasstree #grasstrees #plantoftheweek #plantselfie #featureplant #whiteflowers #lookalike #featureplant #sculpturalform #sculpturalplants

14.01.2022 We need more streets that look like this. 13.01.2022 Plant of the Week Rhipsalis baccifera or Mistletoe Cactus Is a rain forest ephiphytic plant which can grow up to 2m in length. It naturally grows in the tree canopy so does well in hanging pots. It likes partial to full shade and needs protection from direct sunlight. and produces small white fruits. This cactus unlike most others also requires a moist environment to grow well as it is a rain forest plant rather than a more typical desert cactus that we normally see. #plantoftheweek #plantselfie #plantsofinstagram #Rhipsalisbaccifera #Rhipsalis #cactus #indoorplant #rainforestplants #rainforestplant #ephiphyte #shadelovingplants #MistletoeCactus #junglecactus #cactuslover #cactuslove #epiphyticcactus #ephiphytic

13.01.2022 Plant of the Week Gazania rigens or African Daisy Now I have a bit of a love hate relationship with these plants. They are very hardy and can tolerate dry, hot, salty conditions. They come in a wide range of colours. You need to make sure you don't over water them but this low ground cover is great for a hot dry position. However, they are not my preferred go to to use when I am creating planting designs. There are other species which can do the same thing I prefer. However even though I don't prefer them they are beautiful flowers so give them a try in your garden. #Gazaniarigens #Gazania #Platnoftheweek #plantselfie #africandaisy #daisy # yellowflowers #flowers #flowersofinstagram #flowerlovers #groundcovers #groundcover #lowwaterplants #lowwaterplant #gazanias #gazaniaflowers #gazaniaflower

13.01.2022 One of the reasons I started this company was because I believe in flexible working. What does that mean for us here. 13.01.2022 Sometimes on projects you go along and find things don't quite work out. This wall was meant to stay. However after work around the wall progressed it was clear it was becoming unsafe. It didn't take much to pull over. When planning your project you need to accept that changes may need to occur to the original plan. The designer working closely with the landscape contractor can ensure good outcomes fixing issues that are safe and don't cost the earth. Thanks to @yourscapedreamscapes for your great work here.

12.01.2022 Plant of the Week Dietes grandiflora or Wild Iris I am not particularly keen on this plant. I just don't find them that appealing. But they do have their place. Wild Iris are tough. They are the perfect plant for that spot that nothing else seems to grow. Once they are established they are there to stay. They are great for erosion control, weed suppression and grow well under trees. Cope with full sun and shade. They also deal well with little water and times of drought as well as surviving in bogs. So try them in that tough spot you can't seem to grow anything else. #plantoftheweek #plants #plantselfie #plantsofinstagram #Dietes #dietesgrandiflora #wildiris #whiteflowers #whiteflower #iris #irises #irisofinstagram #toughplants #plantsfortoughplaces #plantsfortoughspots #flowers #plantsforfullsun #plantsforpartshade

10.01.2022 Plant of the Week Enchylaena tomentosa or Ruby Saltbush This low growing shrub flowers year round its has white insignificant flowers and produces red or yellow berries which are edible. Its leaves are also edible and is a traditional food source. I have eaten these berries and they are not too bad. Although you would need a lot to fill you up. You are also able to eat the leaves which I haven't tried. This is a hardy little shrub for your garden. It has very textured sliver ...grey foliage and has a very rambling form which would make it good for use as a ground-cover or in a rockery. It grows in a wide variety of soils, has low water requirements and take take salt spray. So it might be good for a hard sunny to dappled shaded spot in the garden. #Enchylaenatomentosa #Enchylaena #rubysaltbush #plantoftheweek #plantselfie #bushfood #ediblegarden #nativeplants #bushtucker #ediblegardening #edibleplants #redberries #silverfoliage #smallshrub #texturedfoliage # See more

09.01.2022 Plant of the Week Petrea volubilis or Sandpaper Vine has these amazing bright purple flowers. It looks like there are two sets of petals however the lighter purple set are actually the plants calices which can remain on the plant after the flowers have fallen. 05.01.2022 Plant of the Week Libidibia ferrea or Leopard Tree This is a large tree which can grow to up to 20m tall. As a mature tree it has a rounded form. Beautiful mottled bark which is where the tree gets it common name from and small green leaves. Many people don't like these trees as they are prolific seed makers and their pods which are about 5-10cm in size can cover the ground in a blanket. A range is sizes, they can be pruned or hedged. They have amazing glossy green leaves.
