25.01.2022 Ectopic eruption of a first permanent molar is a common occurrence in the developing mixed dentition. Proper management is a challenge, but crucial to a healthy occlusion. Non-treatment can result in the early loss of the second primary (baby) molar, space loss, and the impaction of the upper second premolar teeth. The early loss of baby teeth can result in the molars moving forward and encroaching upon the space reserved for the unerupted adult teeth in the front (anterior)... of the mouth. Utilizing sophisticated biomechanic techniques and customized appliances, Dr Siva was able to move this young patients molars backwards (aka molar distalisation) to create the space necessary for all of the adult teeth to sit in perfect alignment in the arch. Whilst we can take comfort in the advice received today with the pending end of the three day lockdown in the Perth and Peel regions, there will be continued restrictions in place for all of us to observe until midnight on Saturday. The Australian Dental Association (WA) has been in discussions with the WA Department of Health and Dental ...Health Services WA in relation to the implications of this latest outbreak, the associated lockdown and how it will impact the provision of dental care in the affected regions. The WA Department of Health and the Australian Dental Association (WA) have mandated that until midnight on Saturday, dental services in the Perth metropolitan and Peel regions are to continue practice under Level 3 restrictions as outlined in the ADA Dental Service COVID-19 Restrictions (Level 3 Restrictions), which came into effect on midnight Saturday 24 April 2021. The effect of Level 3 COVID Restrictions is that our office is required to remain closed, other than for the utmost emergency procedures, which cannot be deferred. Pursuant to the directive to move to Level 3 COVID Restrictions, our office will remain temporarily closed until Monday 3 May 2021. We may need to revise this subject to further advice as developments occur through the week. This is one (of many) reasons why we take a panoramic radiograph (a 'pan') of all new patients who attend a consultation with Dr Siva. A pan is a 2D image which provides an overview of the teeth and jaws including the permanent teeth still growing in the gums. Sometimes a patient may require a 3D image (called a CBCT) to be taken to fully understand the issue. 09.01.2022 A delightful young fellow visited our office not long ago with insufficient space for the eruption of his upper canine teeth. We explored the options that were available to address the issue, which included the removal of four healthy premolar teeth. Instead, we utilised two Benefit Palatal Implants @benefit_applications @benedictwilmes and produced a customised 3D printed Hybrid Hyrax Distalizer appliance through our friends in Switzerland @dentaldigital1. The upper first molar teeth were successfully moved back in the arch, making space for the wayward canine to erupt safely into the arch.
