19.01.2022 From 11:59pm Wednesday 5 August, workplaces in Melbourne must be closed unless: > the workplace is part of a permitted activity, or > all employees are workin...g from home. Employers requiring their staff to attend a work site must issue a worker permit to their employees this is the employer’s responsibility. Employers can issue a worker permit to their employee if they meet all of the below criteria: > the organisation is on the list of permitted activities > the employee is working in an approved category for on-site work > the employee cannot work from home. In rare circumstances an employee does not need a worker permit. This includes: > if an employee is at risk at home, such as at risk of family violence > law enforcement, emergency services workers or health workers who carry > employer-issued photographic identification, which clearly identifies the employer. An employee must not use a worker permit, even if they have been issued one, if: > they test positive to coronavirus (COVID-19) and are required to self-isolate > they are a close contact of someone who has tested positive. More on issuing a permit: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/permitted-worker-scheme-covid-19

14.01.2022 Congratulations Shayne Brown! Shayne Brown has been awarded a Master of Arts from the University of Sydney for her thesis titled 'Hindsight: The Development of Orthoptics in Australia, 1931-1960'. The examiners noted that this is an original and very interesting study which traced the history of orthoptics in Australia, including the evolution of its clinical practice and educational training, from its establishment in 1931 through to 1960 by which time the profession was con...solidated and on the threshold of change. The thesis examined a range of archival, oral and secondary sources and demonstrated advanced research skills and historical analysis in its findings. The inclusion of oral and secondary sources made an excellent contribution both to the thesis and the historical record of this little known but important allied health profession. The study also adds to the emerging body of historical scholarship about the professions in Australia and in particular to that of the health care and training. The next step will be to turn the thesis into a publishable format for Orthoptics Australia. See more

01.01.2022 Are you a qualified orthoptist currently practicing in Australia? If so, we need your help. The Australian Sonographers Association (ASA) are applying to have national registration for sonographers via the National Regulation and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS). ASA are keen that this proposed change would not impact orthoptists undertaking A and B scans and are working with us to ensure orthoptists will not be unintentionally impacted. Your assistance with this survey will enabl...e the OA and AOB to respond to ASA’s proposal. You may also receive an invitation to participate in the same survey from the AOB, but you only need to complete the survey once. Due to the short turnaround time to respond to the proposed submission, the survey will close at COB Friday 27th November. Please participate in the survey by clicking this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5PKHN3H It only takes 5 minutes.
