23.01.2022 The Park Lands Project 1 day festival is a free event on November 22. This week we'll be sharing what to expect at the event - you can attend for free by registering here: https://bit.ly/3eO2JZz Teaming by Laura Wills is an exploration of ground level relationships including small grasses, plants and insects that live and grow in Tuthangga Park 17. The Kaurna name Tuthangga means Grass Place. Through drawing, painting and mapping Laura has explored these grasses and their i...nterconnected relationships between the Chequered Copper Butterfly, Native Sorrel and Rainbow Ant. Asking - What are some of the symbiotic relationships (real, monitored and imagined) between the fauna and flora at the ground level? And what might be often overlooked or too small to be seen? As part of the projects process, Laura has worked in collaboration with the new arrival class at Gilles St School to further explore these ideas. The resultant drawings and a series of plant tales that explore specific grasses, plant personalities, their physicality and relationships will be wrapped around a handful of the big trees for people to wander and explore. The artists talk with Gerry Butler from Butterfly Conservation will focus on the interconnected relationship between the Chequered Copper Butterfly, and the local habitat.

05.01.2022 Just one week to go until The Park Lands Project Festival! We're looking forward to hearing from Louise Flaherty and Belinda Gehlert speaking about Memorial for Forgotten Plants - the Grey Box & SA Blue Gum Woodland . Memorial for Forgotten Plants is a long-term project by Louise Flaherty that reflects on the loss of native plants from our suburban landscape. The research for this project began in 2018 where she repeatedly drew all 86 species in the Grey Box & SA Blue Gum Woo...dland community. This action was seen as an attempt to commit their details to memory. For the Parklands Project, Louise invites the public to work with her in writing the names of these plants and wrapping these lists around the trees of the Elm Carriageway. An accompanying audio work based on the list of 86 plants has been created by Belinda Gehlert. The work aims to open up an intimate space for the public to contribute to the memory and resilience of these native plants. The artist's talk with John Sandham - the Collections Development Officer at the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium will discuss this work's reflection on the ever-changing state of these native woodlands and our urban environment.
