23.01.2022 HEEL PAIN IN KIDS AND TEENAGERS, IT COULD BE SEVER’S DISEASE The Achillies tendon inserts into this growth plate and becomes inflamed causing pain. It is one of the most common causes of heel pain in growing children and adolescents. Your child may complain of heel pain after exercise, especially if the exercise involves running or jumping, heel stiffness and may possibly walk with a limp.... It is caused when a child goes through a growth spurt the bones grow faster than the ligaments and tendons. This combined with repetitive movements such as running and jumping can pull excessively on the tendons and ligaments and may lead to inflammation of the heel. Want to know how it's managed, what to do and what to avoid or if your child's footy boots are contributing, keep reading herehttps://www.osteo4families.com.au//heel-pain-in-kids-and-t

21.01.2022 NATIONAL SKIN CANCER ACTION WEEK Each year Cancer Council Australia and the Australasian College of Dermatologists come together for National Skin Cancer Action Week. This is an important reminder to use sun protection and of the importance of early skin cancer detection for all Australians. More than 2000 people in Australia die from skin cancer each year, and Cancer Council estimates that Australia spends more than $1 billion per year treating skin cancer, with costs increa...sing substantially over the past few years. However, most skin cancers can be prevented by the use of good sun protection. That’s why during National Skin Cancer Action Week, all Australians are urged to use the five forms of sun protection. These are to: slip on sun-protective clothing slop on SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen slap on a broad-brimmed hat seek shade slide on sunglasses. A combination of the five measures, along with getting to know your skin and regularly checking for any changes, are key.

20.01.2022 SPORTS RETURNING, GYMS BACK BUT IT’S NOT THE TIME TO GO SILLY! We have had a break from our normal exercise routines for almost 9 months, that is a lot of time for our fitness and skills to change. Soft tissue injuries are expected to increase after return to activity reports this article. ... This article reports on some research looking into the football competition in Germany In Germany's Bundesliga football competition, injury rates soared when matches resumed Dr Joel Mason, a sports scientist based in Berlin, fears there would be similar results when Australian competitions resume. Bundesliga injuries went from a pre-lockdown average of 0.27 per game to 0.88 in the first round the competition (according to Dr Mason's research) So here are some tips to help reduce that injury rate: Start slowly and build back up Don’t feel the pressure to make up for lost time, start with gentle increases in activity and difficulty Don't expect to start where you finished Expect to be sore and allow your body to adapt to the changes You may find it harder at the gym than you did before - remember you have started like this before and then built up and you can do it again If you need help getting your body back to it's fitness levels or reduce the chance of injury book an appointment with Osteo for families 0411 161 411 or online. Fingers crossed you wont need it but you can also book if you pull up sore from the return of exercise. https://www.abc.net.au//injuries-tipped-to-soar-/12326616

15.01.2022 STAGE 4 RESTRICTION UPDATE . . Stage 4 restrictions have started and this is how it will affect Osteo 4 Families and our patients. .... . Osteo 4 Families must close to our regular patients under these restrictions. We are supporting the government’s goal to reduce people leaving their homes and prevent the spread of COVID 19 and help us return to normal as soon as possible. . . If you have an upcoming appointment, check your emails for more details about your next appointment. . . Further details were released on Thursday morning the 6th of August which stated that we can provide Osteopathic services for emergency or urgent cases only. This is to help reduce the burden on the hospital systems. . . Urgent or emergency cases are not well defined but our understanding so far is: an urgent patient who would end up in the emergency department of the hospital or needing to see a specialist if they don’t seek Osteopathic treatment ASAP or to prevent significant degeneration or quality of function. . . You do not need a GP referral in this case. . . For any new patients who are urgent they must stay within a 5 km radius of their home. All return patients are allowed to travel outside the 5km radius. . . We understand that there may have been a bit of uncertainty in the last few days and thank you for your understanding in this frequently changing circumstance . . Osteo 4 families are here to support you and you can still reach out to us via email or phone. We are just a phone call away if you need some advice. . . Take care and stay well! Carly and Mariella See more

14.01.2022 To all our beautiful and valued clients. First of all thank you for your patience. We are open and we are treating 'urgent' cases. We are open and also consulting via 'Telehealth.' It is with great sadness we update you with the latest information we have received and that is we have to remain triaging all patients for at least another 2 weeks.... The government has not been clear providing a date to when we as allied health professionals can operate as 'normal'. Rumour has it that some of our restrictions maybe lifted at the end of September and the other information is saying not until the 26th of October. As a patient I know this is frustrating for you as it is for us. I want you to know we are here for you! Feel free to give us a call to chat so we can help you find a solution for any aches or pains. In the mean time, take care, be gentle on yourself and we will see you soon. xxx

11.01.2022 DO YOU HAVE A BABY WHO DOESN'T STOP CRYING? DO YOU THINK THEY MAY HAVE COLIC? IF YOU ANSWERED YES THEN YOU MAY BE SUITABLE TO BE INVOLVED IN A TRIAL IN AN INTERNATIONAL STUDY WHICH OUR OWN OSTEOPATH CARLY IS INVOLVED IN.... Criteria: My Infant cries excessively and is fussing, distressed and/or unsettled for 3 hours or more a day, for 3 days or more over a one week period My infant is difficult to console My infant is more than 1 week old and less than 10 weeks old My baby is healthy and thriving I am over the age of 18 years of age. What's involved? Taking part would mean that your baby would have an initial consultation to check that they are eligible to be in the study. Then they would be given one of two different approaches being studied (non-specific light touch or light osteopathic touch). Your baby would receive up to 4 treatments over a 2-week period with Dr Carly Broadbent (Advanced Paediatric Osteopath Tertiary) an experienced, registered and specifically trained osteopath. Parents must complete 2 questionnaires and a sleep diary for 14 days There is no cost involved in this trial except the commitment of your time and transport costs to the clinic Carly will be accepting babies from the 1st of May. If you are interested in being in this trial or want to know more call us on 0416 161 411 or read more on this link https://www.osteo4families.com.au/osteopathy-blog-ad//14/c

Eat - enjoy food at your christmas celebrations but eat a healthy, well balanced diet when not celebrating. Avoid food poisoning by eating leftovers within 48 h...ours of being served. Shop - get some help when carrying large or heavy presents. Share the load of your shopping bags on both arms and if getting too heavy, drop some off at the car or get a trolley. Exercise - try to get regular exercise over the christmas period, go for a walk to see the christmas lights. On christmas day - don’t sit all day, get up and move or play a game of backyard cricket. No excuses - take care of yourself, don’t use the excuse it’s too busy around christmas to attend your regular appointments including your osteo! Tinsel and decorations - use ladders on even surfaces to get to higher up spots, do not stand on an unstable surface or a wheelie chair. Get others to help you get all the decorations out from their storage place. Spirits of christmas - enjoy celebrating with your favourite drinks but keep track of how many drinks you’ve had and try mixing it up with some punch, soft drink or water with lemon. See more

10.01.2022 CLINIC UPDATE DURING STEP 2 With the announcement of easing of restrictions on allied services on the 28th of September We are excited to be able to open our doors a little wider and welcome more patients back into the clinic... This new criteria means we can see patients to prevent a significant deterioration in functional independence which would result in an escalation of care needs (an increased frequency in treatment, significant increase in pain, specialist input, or substantial increase in recovery time as a result of delayed care). - for assessment and diagnostic purposes for those people whose care has been delayed during stage 4 restrictions, and where further delay is likely to result in deterioration. to provide essential pre-operative or post-operative elective surgery care.
