24.01.2022 Coxa Valga is a hip abnormality where the angle between the shaft of the thigh bone and the neck (which has the ball on the end) is greater than the average. Although not a huge problem in very young people, older kids or adults that have this issue can have painful and restricted hip movement making activities like walking and running more difficult than they should be. Do you suffer from stiff hips or hip pain? #osteopathy #osteo #coxavalga #hippain

23.01.2022 November’s word of the month is ‘Coeliac’ (pron. see-lee-ac). Coeliac is the name given to a disease where people are unable to tolerate gluten in their diet. Gluten is a protein found in wheat products, as well as barley and rye. Coeliac disease leads to damage of the lining of the small intestine which then leads to poor nutrient absorption by the body (aka malnutrition). This condition affects both sexes and all ages. If you’re coeliac and have a delicious gluten-free recipe recommendation, please share #osteo #osteopathy #wordofthemonth #coeliacdisease

22.01.2022 We often get asked, are growing pains real? The answer is YES. Although there is no evidence to support ‘growth’ as a painful thing to experience, some children going through growth spurts can experience intermittent pain in the legs, often affecting them at nighttime. Sometimes the pain is enough to even wake them from their sleep. If you have concerns about your child, please call us today on03 9416 7725 or book online at www.osteo4health.com... #osteo #osteopathy #osteopath #growingpains

19.01.2022 Did you know that when we bend our spine backwards the movement is called ‘extension’ and the opposite movement - bending forward - is called ‘flexion’? The cat/camel or cat/cow stretch takes your spine through both of these movements nicely! But the big question is do you cow? Or camel? #osteo #osteopathy #osteopath #anatomy #movement #spineflexion #spineextension

18.01.2022 Did you know it is possible to completely tear your Achilles tendon? This is also known as a full rupture of the tendon. Any excessive increase in stress or force acting on the tendon can cause a rupture, including increased participation of jumping sports or falling and landing from a height. Men between the ages of 30-40 are most commonly affected. Calf pain? Come and see us now! #osteo #osteopathy #achillestendon #rupture

18.01.2022 Have you been told you need a DEXA scan? This is a special kind of x-ray used to detect bone loss in our skeletons. People at risk of, or those that have osteoporosis may require a DEXA scan every now and then to check their levels and determine the severity of bone loss, which leaves our bones more prone to fractures. DEXA = Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry Now that’s a mouthful! #osteo #osteopathy #DEXAscan

11.01.2022 Seasons’ greetings! It goes without saying that after the year that has been 2020, Christmas really has just snuck up on us! It was the year of social isolation..., Netflix, snacks, Zoom and daily press conferences. We stayed apart to keep us together. Now, it seems, we are back in full swing of life and preparing ourselves for what looks like an exciting - and relatively normal - festive season (even if we are all staying put this Christmas)! In the spirit of giving, we have a $1 a day sale running throughout December. This means you can get a full year’s GYM ONLY membership for the humble price of $365. So if you, or maybe someone you know, would like the gift of health this Christmas, why not take advantage of this special offer! We also offer personal training, martial arts, yoga, strength & conditioning, boxing, and HIIT packages. So why not give the gift of fitness this Christmas! Seasonally yours, The ISF Team #fitness #Christmas #gym #reservoirgym #bodybuilding #getfit #fitfam #fitspo #groupfitness

11.01.2022 Do you have wrist pain following a fall on an out-stretched hand (otherwise referred to as FOOSH)? Seek medical attention quickly for a careful examination of the hand and wrist. These types of injury may lead to a scaphoid (one of the small wrist bones) fracture. A fracture to this bone becomes complicated if the blood supply to the bone is cut off. So it’s best to get checked out sooner rather than later! Most of the time we can help get you back to full function in the weeks that follow. #osteopathy #osteo #scaphoidfracture #FOOSH #wristpain

11.01.2022 It’s time for Osteo word of the month Diaphragm! There are a few diaphragms found throughout the body, but the one most commonly referred to is the thin muscle that separates the chest cavity (which houses the lungs and heart) from the abdominal cavity (which houses the stomach, intestines and other important organs). This muscle flattens when we breathe in, and domes when we breathe out! Hands up who knew where the diaphragm was? ... #osteopathy #osteo #wordofthemonth #diaphragm

10.01.2022 Stretching can be performed using movement (dynamic stretching) or by holding a specific position (static stretching). As a general rule, dynamic stretching is good to use prior to exercise, and static stretching is useful following exercise. Most importantly, it’s vital that you never push yourself past the point where you feel a gentle stretch. Always listen to your body ... If you need advice on stretching, ask us during your next appointment. #osteopathy #osteo #stretching #dynamicstretch #static stretch

09.01.2022 Out-toeing is when a child’s feet are excessively turned outward. This can occur due to an abnormal outward twist in the thigh bone, which directly affects the positioning of the knee and foot. Other causes can be from an abnormal twist in the shin bone, flat feet or over-contracted muscles in the hip region. Noticed your child has outward pointing feet? Book an appointment today with Dr Cecilia Graziano so we can assess them and get them on the straight and narrow asap!... #osteo #osteopathy #outtoeing

08.01.2022 The femur, or thigh bone, is widely regarded as the strongest bone in the body. It is also the longest bone. Just think of all the weight it has to hold up when we walk and run. Don’t feel bad, it gets a rest when we sit and lie down! Give us a below if you knew this already!

07.01.2022 Many people with arthritis will tell you their joint pain worsens as it gets colder outside. Scientific researchers have been trying to find a connection between the changes in barometric pressure and joint pain for years. There is currently no solid evidence to support a link, but we always listen to our patients. Do you have arthritis? Do you feel more pain during winter? Let us know in the comments below! #osteo #osteopathy #osteopath #arthritis #jointpain
