03.01.2022 Hey guys, finally managed to get out for my first fish since the opening of the season. After the hot weather we had yesterday and noticing that a storm was rolling in, I thought it would be perfect fishing conditions so I grabbed the 3wt, vest and net and rushed out to one of our local creeks with about 40 minutes of light left. I could see a few fishing rising and taking food from the surface to I tied an dry ant fly with a black bead head nymph dropped. Within about the fi...rst 15 minutes I landed my first healthy looking rainbow, which judging by it's size I'm almost convinced it's from last year's OTAS release. After a quick pic, she went back into the water. With light quickly fading I decided on one last cast, which saw me hooking a very healthy rainbow that put on a great fight with lots of aerial acrobatics. This was a very well conditioned fish which I decided to keep for the smoker, it went 37cm and about 700 grams. Being the first fish I've kept from our local waterways I decided to check it's stomach contents to see what she'd been eating. I was surprised to find it's stomach full with a range of insects (which were to hard to make out), there was a small yabbie there and a couple small snails. There was also a significant amount of plant matter as well. It's great to see our local water ways producing some fantastic conditioned fish and excellent fishing opportunities. Nik
