19.01.2022 My kids have a new game. The game is How far can I walk along the fence before falling off?. Its a classic 1960s chain wire fence.... Circular steel top rail. More holes in it than my grandmas knitted socks Yes, I have some. Its been great to watch though their attempts at it. The development of their skills and confidence. From wobbly first few steps Now theyre negotiating the trees and tall grasses that create a backyard obstacle course. Now theyve made it all the way to the corner of the yard. They cant believe it. They so want my attention so they can show me their success. Why am I sharing this with you? Well, the parallels to life are clear, especially when it comes to our health. Breaking it down. Play, represents that self starter in us. You know that version of You-The motivated. You-who wants to explore their potential, to do better. Whatever that is diet, lose weight, more energy, exercise routine, sleep better, or be clear on nurturing our brain health Yes. Better. Theres a process you go through when youre starting out and learning something new. It follows a path from a High Energy Focus State to A Low Energy Ease State of being. You take tentative steps. Uncertain of success but youre committed, right? Your focus and attention is dialled in. (High Energy) Early on there is a big effort. It may take a lot out of you. You fall off Make errors, to stumble - to struggle- to get super frustrated. This right here is when many of us give up.. The self talk starts up Yep, this doesnt work for me BUT Mistakes, hardship, frustration are makers on the path to success. This is normal HIGH Energy State With this feedback- you refine your actions. Your attention is softer, it starts feeling more natural, automated or routine. Your effort is tailored to the challenge thats in front of you. Youre getting into the groove Its now really efficient and it will get even easier as you progress. (Low Energy -Ease State) Sure you fall off once in every off pink moon, but its easier to start again. The support and encouragement that you get, rewards you. This can be in the form of praise, results or feeling so much better in ourselves. Its the pump up of confidence. You keep going forward to the next challenge. So, heres to you. To falling off, dusting yourself down and getting back on the rail of life. P.S. In this weeks comprehensive article I share how people can take back control over their Parkinsons Disease symptoms. How to Overcome Parkinsons Disease Freezing. Freezing is one of the greatest threats to a persons independence and a major factor in why people fall. https://occupationaltherapybrisbane.com.au/how-to-overcom/

Whos with me on this? From making decisions, to paying the bills on time, let alone dealing with a major health event. It can all add up. I see this holding on and hear the letting go sigh often. Funny thing is my daughter has a sharp eye and she said - Dad youre sighing a lot. Ive been pushing hard lately. Plate loaded, trying to create more value for my clients But I am stretched. No doubt about - but who isnt? That isnt an excuse - more so a hey we all experience it - so lets do something about it - together I pulled a handbrake on it last week and I wanted to share with you what I did.
