25.01.2022 Tomorrow (3rd June) marks Mabo Day and the end of Reconciliation week. OT Do wish to acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which it works: Gaibal and Jarowair lands (Toowoomba) Yugambeh land (Logan and Gold Coast) Ugarapul and Kitabul land (Lockyer valley) ... We are guests of these lands and we honour the history of our First Nations people, their stories, languages and culture. We support their determination to retain and regain their culture and traditions post Colonisations. We embrace the 2020 Reconciliation week theme of "In this together" and the NAIDOC theme of "Always was, always will be".

24.01.2022 Sensory strategies can be an incredibly helpful component of interventions to manage distress and assist in developing behavioural interventions in individuals with ASD, intellectual impairment or experiencing mental health issues. Here is a useful link that describes the approach: http://sensoryconnectionprogram.com Our team can conduct sensory assessments and develop intervention plans to support individuals experiencing distress or dysregulation. Give us a call on 0403 798 764 to discuss further.

23.01.2022 Friday funny! Supervision is a critical component of all allied health clinician's practice. It provides an important opportunity to reflect on the work we do and get support and advice when needed. Today in supervision Sara got the added support of the resident cat Max during her supervision with our Senior OT and co-director Cathy. He hasn't provided evidence to support his suggestions but his contribution was valuable none the less.

02.01.2022 For many the last six months have been intense and challenging. It is important to notice the signs of emotional exhaustion and burnout in the ongoing COVID-19 environment when we keep trying to push ourselves under stress. Self care is incredibly important in the current climate. This may mean accessing professional support to help navigate difficult situations. You can access mental health support via your GP using a Mental Health Care Plan. OT Do has experienced OTs and a Psychologist able to offer these services. These can still be offered via telehealth through the Medicare COVID-19 items until the end of September. We await confirmation on the extension of these provisions. https://elemental.medium.com/your-surge-capacity-is-deplete
