25.01.2022 Theres been a bit of friendly rivalry for some time between volunteer cooks Pete McCarthy and Jess Artis in the kitchen at The Salvation Army's Brisbane Streetlevel Mission. Theyve always been happy to take friendly potshots and baste each other with a little light-hearted banter, but it wasn't until Jess decided to enrol in the Busy at Work Certificate 2 in Kitchen Operations that Petes competitive nature began to show. Find out how it all went down and how Streetlevel is assisting people to get skilled in our story! #livelovefight Brisbane Streetlevel Mission

24.01.2022 Stuck for ideas on what to do in mandatory hotel quarantine? How about run a marathon? Or a few?! A Sunshine Coast family has returned to Australia from Canada unexpectedly due to COVID-19 and decided to spend their 14-day mandatory quarantine by walking, jogging, jumping or running 300km in their hotel room to raise money for The Salvation Army. I have been a long-term attendee of the mainly music program firstly at Ipswich Salvation Army ... then Maroochydore Salvos," says Nicola Ross. Our connection, through this, has given me an insight into the great work the Salvos do. I think we all need hope at the moment and Im sure that there will be many arms of the Salvos work being stretched with such need in communities around the world. #livelovefight The Salvation Army Ipswich Darryl ArmyWhitecross

22.01.2022 The coronavirus pandemic has moved Salvos in Ararat and Stawell in Victoria outside the church building and into homes for organic church. Pre-COVID, nearly 40 people would attend Salvation Army services at the two corps. With the onset of COVID-19, formal services stopped and prior to Stage 3 Lockdown, there were 16 small groups and nearly 80 people engaged in meeting together in homes to pray, read Gods word and share in meals together! 19.01.2022 This Sunday marks the 120th anniversary of The Salvation Army's 'Soldiers of the Cross' - an innovative production often referred to as the worlds first feature film. The house lights went down, reported The War Cry. The audience were hushed into breathless silence as the immense pictures were thrown upon the canvas. The Commandants voice alone broke the stillness, thrilling the enthralled audience with burning words, forming an eloquent and beautiful tribute to the heroic deeds of the saints whose pictorial reproduction riveted every eye. #livelovefight The Salvation Army Australia - Museum Lindsay Charles Cox

14.01.2022 In her viewpoint for others.org.au, Captain Manika Mera shares her heart for relational Kingdom building, saying the COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the need for the Church to lead the salvation war in alternate ways. "The pandemic did not have a significant impact on our version of the Church due to our focus on building real relationships. In our faith community, there is no structured partnership between a pastor and a congregation; instead, we are all equal as friends, exploring Jesus and deeply reflecting on the Word of God. We dont have any worship service or songs, but we only read the Bible continuously week by week, and through that, people have come to faith." 12.01.2022 Want to know what "transforming Australia one life at a time with the love of Jesus" actually looks like? Head out to Moree in north-west New South Wales where the focus is on generational change by investing heavily in mentoring young people. Corps co-leader, Jason Poutawa likens the model to that of Jesus, who had powerful connection points with multitudes of people during his ministry but heavily invested into just 12 his disciples. You look at the impact that Jesus made on those 12 and then the impact that they made on the world after he left. That is central to what we are doing with Deadly Diamonds and with Salvos Mentoring to get to those places of trust and intimacy and connection ... and to consistently be a positive role model on their journey. #livelovefight Moree Salvos Jason Poutawa Jessica Poutawa

11.01.2022 Twenty years ago today, S.J. Finn saw her vision for International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) come to life. A small group of guests joined her behind The Salvation Army St Kilda Crisis Services wearing silver ribbons, to remember the people theyd lost to a drug overdose. When I started IOAD, I met clients who had lost sometimes up to 17 friends from an overdose, and they really didnt feel they had any right to mourn for these people because of the way in which they had died, said Finn. I felt it was time to put a day aside on the calendar to mark the deaths of those wed lost and those who had suffered permanent injury from an overdose. And also, to raise awareness about how these deaths could be prevented. #livelovefight Bruce Stevens Bruce Harmer The Salvation Army - Victoria

07.01.2022 140 years go, on 5 September 1880, Edward Saunders and John Gore conducted an evangelical meeting from the back of that cart under a huge river red gum tree. At the end of the meeting Gore put out an invitation: If theres a man here who hasnt had a square meal today, let him come home to tea with me, he is reported to have said. While this date is commemorated as the beginnings of The Salvation Army in Australia, things didnt get official until an officer couple, Thomas and Adelaide Sutherland, were sent by William Booth to Australia in 1881. So much has changed since then, but Salvationists continue to 'save souls, grow saints and serve suffering humanity' in a myriad of different ways. #livelovefight
