24.01.2022 Here we are again finding ourselves in strange times. Although regional Victoria is not really effected with the new restrictions for metro it still does effect a lot of businesses regionally. Motels here in Colac for instance dont survive on holiday makers. It is mostly workers, coming out of Melbourne, to service machinery, do rail work, road work, do fit outs, wind farms, building trade etc, etc.... It is staggering the amount of specialised trades that come here to do jobs for the many manufacturing companies in Colac. So while you are still most welcome please if you are unwell, had contact with someone who may have been in contact with someone else with Covid-19 or in fact got it, stay home. Stay in metro and help us keep this awful disease out of regional Vic and eventually/hopefully out of Australia.

We miss our usual guests from over the boarder but most of all we miss our families. Nothing beats face to face conversation except that hug from a grandchild. We are very fortunate to be hosting the Australian Defence Force while they are assisting Colac with contact tracing, checking people are staying at home as per directives and anything else required from them. We thank you ADF and all emergency front line workers for assisting us in keeping this under control in our town. Thank you to all the mask makers and wearers. It is such a strange sight to look up Murray Street (our main shopping centre) and not see a single car.

In Australia book directly with the motel. Support our country. We pay taxes here and that goes back into our country not billions to overseas greed mongers where none of the money comes back to Australia. Yes, by booking online your are sending Billions of dollars overseas in unpaid Aussie taxes and commissions charged to the motels.

11.01.2022 Just a touch base with everyone. It is such a strange time. Living on a road that is usually so busy and people coming and going from the school and shop to almost nothing is very odd to say the least. I hope those of you that are in isolation are staying sane, those working are staying safe. Remember if you have to travel for work we are here with a bed if needed. One person at a time in reception or better still ring, give all your details and we will put the keys out for you. Please if you are not well do not travel. Stay safe, stay home unless it is work and I will try and have a catch up again next week.

11.01.2022 Did you know at the Otway Gate Motel we do not have a breakfast room but we do have room service breakfast. This morning Frank enjoyed Bacon, Eggs & Sausages on Toast with Pinapple juice while Marcel and Clint enjoyed Scrambled Eggs and Poached Eggs both with Orange juice. Gavin ordered Tomato & Bacon on Toast and Brook just wanted Muesli & Fruit toast as a night tray. All delivered to their room on time and piping hot.

10.01.2022 Another week has passed and again we are very fortunate not to have any Covit cases in Colac. We are following all guidelines with extra cleaning. Doors, keys, bench tops, pens all regularly sanitised and that is just the reception area. Doors, remotes, benches and chairs, taps, the list goes on in the rooms. To fill in the quiet parts we have been busy trimming the hedges and pruning the roses. Cleaning gutters and sweeping the carpark. Open as usual for all those still having to work. Breakfast delivered to your room still available and takeaway charge backs available through reception. Stay safe and well done everyone.

09.01.2022 If we are doing the mask thing in Colac we are doing it in style. Pumped out 25 masks for our staff, family, friends and ourselves. Even got the pinstripe for son-in-law to look the part at work. Teddy Bears for 2 daughters in child care centres and favorite colour for grandchildren. Didnt have to buy a thing. All left over fabric from craft projects.

06.01.2022 Every year we have been getting visited by three pairs of black parrots. Usually they stay high in the trees behind the shed but this year I was able to get closer to them. Funny thing is they are not even black. Beautiful.
