09.01.2022 Who is Otzi? In 1991, a group of hikers exploring the Ötztal Alps on the Austrian-Italian border came across a mummified corpse half-entombed in ice. After archaeologists had examined Otzi, scientists determined that he had perished in the Alps an astounding 5,300 years earlier. ... Otzi also had 61 tattoos, likely created by cutting the skin and rubbing in charcoal, they were found around joints and the lower back, the theory is that they may have been markings for an early form of acupuncture. This makes Otzi the oldest known person to have been tattooed!
