24.01.2022 Solemn Mass for the Feast of the Assumption celebrated by His Excellency Bishop Antoine-Charbel Tarabay 6 pm | 15 August 2020 | OLOL Feast Week

23.01.2022 15 May - Blessed Feast of Our Lady of the Harvest! In the Maronite Church there are three unique feasts that celebrate Mary, they are Our Lady of the Seeds, Ou...r Lady of the Harvest and Our Lady of the Grapes. On May 15, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Harvest. The Syriac Churches developed the earliest Marian theology, focusing on typology, symbolism, creation and the Incarnation. There are textual records of these feasts from the fifth and sixth centuries in the Antiochene Church, but tradition maintains their origins go back to late apostolic times. 22.01.2022 Friends, On this eve of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, it is a Maronite tradition to light bonfires or candles in remembrance of St Helena who l...it bonfires on mountains all the way from Jerusalem to Constantinople to notify Constantine that she had found the Cross. As we cannot gather in large groups this year, I invite you on this occasion to light a candle tonight in your home asking our Lord Jesus Christ to protect Lebanon and the Lebanese people during this time of hardship and suffering, by the power of His Holy Cross. We also pray for Australia that it may be safe from disasters and protected from every harm. I wish you all a Blessed Feast of the Holy Cross! 18.01.2022 - Today is the feast day of St John Paul II, a holy pope who touched the lives of many, including mine. On this day, we ask... for his prayers and intercessions for our world, for our families and for our youth, whom Pope John Paul II loved dearly and addressed saying: Do not be afraid. Do not be satisfied with mediocrity. Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch. I pray that we may all find strength and hope in our faith and cast our nets trusting in the Lord's love and mercy. (The image is a scan of an old photo from my days as a student in Rome).

18.01.2022 Dear Friends, On the Eve of the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady, please join me via Facebook Live at 6:45 pm for Evening Prayers, Talbet and Ziyeh in honour... of our Blessed Mother, from St Maroun’s Chapel in Strathfield. Let us continue to pray for Lebanon and its suffering people, and all those affected by or suffering from COVID-19. Through the intercession of Our Lady, may she be for us the beacon of hope and light amidst despair and darkness. Amen

16.01.2022 Dear friends, I arrived back from Lebanon a few days ago and I am currently in my mandatory quarantine for 14 days. I would like to share with you this video ab...out my visit to some regions of Beirut and to the port. The damage, the loss and the destruction are beyond what words can describe. As I say in the video, what we are doing may only be a drop in the ocean but it is definitely making the lives of many a little better. Thank you to our generous donors and organisations. Through your generosity, we are able to help the people of Beirut rebuild their homes and lives.

13.01.2022 Dear friends, His Holiness Pope Francis has called for a worldwide day of prayer and fasting for Lebanon on Friday, 4 September, one month after the massive ex...plosion at the port of Beirut. One month after the tragedy that struck the city of Beirut, my thoughts turn once again to Lebanon and its people, so sorely tried, the Pope said during his weekly General Audience. Addressing the people of Lebanon, His Holiness added: "Do not abandon your homes and your heritage. Do not abandon the dreams of those who believed in the dawn of a beautiful and prosperous country. " He also encouraged all to demonstrate their closeness to Lebanon through concrete works of charity. Let us all join Pope Francis tomorrow in this day of prayer and fasting for our beloved Lebanon, and let us continue to help the Lebanese people by all means at our disposal.

12.01.2022 Feast of the Assumption of Mary Dear Brothers and Sisters, The Catholic Church celebrates on the 15th of August the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgi...n Mary, the oldest Marian Feast. It is a day to contemplate the most authentic beauty, the beauty of holiness. Mary was taken up body and soul into Heaven and this shows us that there is room in God for man. Jesus tells us that God himself is the house with many rooms for us. God is man’s home. Heaven is no longer a very remote sphere unknown to us. We have a mother in Heaven. And the Mother of God, the Mother of the Son of God, is our Mother Heaven is open, Heaven has a heart (Pope Benedict XVI, 2005). The other lesson that Mary, the Holy Ark who bears the presence of God, tells us is that, in every human there is room for God. This presence of God in us is so important for bringing forward light to the world. Mary is the perfect example of a woman filled with God who radiated Him to the world. We Maronites have always had a unique devotion to Our Lady. When we walk the roads of Lebanon, her statue is to be found in shrines all along the streets and highways. Her great hymn, the Ya Oum Allah could almost be described as our Maronite anthem. We honour her in every village and entrust to her our land, our families and our lives. She is Our Lady of Lebanon. Today, Lebanon and his people are suffering, in a way which we have never seen since the days of the civil war, and which we had thought and prayed were gone forever. The cup of Lebanon has been filling with suffering, and the Lebanese people have been drinking it for decades. We pray to the Mother of God, to Our Lady of Lebanon, to intercede and pray for Lebanon and for his people, tormented and suffering. Filled with faith, I am certain that she will intercede and ask her Son to deliver and save Lebanon, first and foremost from the corruption and negligence of political leaders who, for decades, neglected the people and served only themselves and their interests. As Lebanese Australians, let us persevere in prayer and work for our brothers and sisters in Lebanon. Let us be their hope and their voices all around the world, and let us continue to express our solid faith in the Lord that he will never abandon his flock in Lebanon. Our faith and our prayers should also translate into action and I was moved over the last days to see the generosity and outpouring of love from our community here towards our brothers and sisters in Lebanon. On this Glorious Feast, we rejoice with Mary, knowing that there is room for God within us and room for us in God. May we, in the example of the Holy Mother, bring him to our world and make His mercy and love known to all. May she help us to make the reality of heaven, God's greatness, also present in the life of our world.

11.01.2022 Today we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary which marks her assumption into Heaven body and soul. Because it signifies the Blessed... Virgin’s passing into eternal life, it is one of the most important of all Marian feasts and a Holy Day of Obligation. The earliest printed reference that Mary's body was assumed into Heaven dates from the fourth century, in a document entitled "The Falling Asleep of the Holy Mother of God". The document is written in the voice of the Apostle John, to whom Christ on the Cross had entrusted the care of His mother, and recounts the death, laying in the tomb and assumption of the Blessed Virgin. Blessed Virgin Mary pray for us Prayer for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Almighty and everlasting God, You have taken up body and soul into the heavenly glory the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of Your Son: Grant, we beseech You, that, ever intent upon heavenly things, we may be worthy to be partakers of her glory. Through Jesus Christ Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen. #mary #assumption #feast #blessedvirginmary #marianfeast #Holydayofobligation #catholic

10.01.2022 Today on All Souls Day, we are reminded as Catholics of the importance of interceding for each other, including for those who have gone before us, marked with t...he sign of faith. Our prayers and sufferings offered for the holy souls quicken the process of them being readied for heaven. The month of November is traditionally a time to pray for the faithful who have died and I invite you to share any prayer intentions below and I will keep your departed family and friends in my prayers this month. God bless you all.

10.01.2022 The Catholic Church has been undertaking the important ministry of burying the dead, maintaining graves and caring for grieving families for over 150 years in N...SW. I am united with Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP and express my disappointment at the announcement of OneCrown regarding the exclusion of the Catholic Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (CMCT) from the operation of burial grounds in NSW. Showing proper respect for graves is very important to the Maronite community. Large gatherings at gravesites after funerals, on anniversaries of death and at other significant times throughout the year is not uncommon. The announcement of a single, secular provider brings great uncertainty and distress to our people. I invite you to sign this petition to https://saveourgraves.com.au/ to ask the NSW Government to reverse the decision to exclude religious groups from cemetery management. Praying for our faithful departed is a sign of hope, and caring for our dead is our moral obligation as a sign of our faith in eternal life. As a Catholic Church, we should be allowed to continue to undertake this corporal work of mercy. Burying our dead should not become a bureaucratic transaction.

05.01.2022 Yesterday night, 2020 candles were lit in our parish Our Lady of Lebanon Co-Cathedral court yard on the occasion of the end of the blessed month, of the Holy Ro...sary, for all the intentions of our parishioners and visitors, for the living, the departed and those who are sick. Also for peace in Lebanon and prosperity in Australia. The candles will remain lit for Rosary and Procession tonight at 7:30 and tomorrow Sunday at 8 pm.

03.01.2022 Seventh Sunday of the Resurrection Dear Brothers and Sisters, On this last Sunday of the Season of the Resurrection, the short Gospel passage which we read is e...ndless in its meaning for us. It provides us with the great test: do we love one another as Jesus Himself loved us? If we do, and only if we do, can we truly be His disciples. No other test of our faith is so complete, so clear, and so difficult of fulfilment. And it is not the sort of test which we can decide for ourselves that we have passed. And neither is it the sort of test one only has to take once and then never sit again. The test of love is one which we must meet again every day we live, and with every person we meet, and with every person we come across, even at a distance. Jesus calls this His new commandment. In the famous Sermon on the Mount, St Matthew told us that Jesus taught us to love God above all else, and to love our neighbour as ourselves. What we hear in St John’s Gospel adds to this: when Our Lord had said we are to love one another not just as we love ourselves, but as Christ Himself has loved us, a higher standard was set. This requires us to ask how it is that Jesus Himself showed love, and how it is proper to apply that to ourselves. Our Lord said to His disciples: Greater love than this has no man: that he lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13) This is exactly what the Lord Himself did: He surrendered His own life for the salvation not only of His friends but even for those who were to persecute, scourge, and put Him to death. We hope that God saves us from such a test. We find it hard enough to sacrifice our vanity, our pride, and our self-love. But our lives? Yet, if we are not in situations where we are called to offer our last breath, yet we can give our lives in service. This indeed is to love as Jesus loved. And this is to find the road to be united with Him whom we have followed to the very end. I wish you a blessed Sunday!
